I can't think of a single play in the history of sports that sums up an individual player better than this does. This is just so Arod.
Do you know the song that’s played in this video?

Randy Marsh was one of the better umps, that's for sure. He got it right when ht would have been so easy not to.
What’s really funny is that if Arod just accepted being tagged out Jeter would have been standing on 2nd but instead since Arod interfered, Jeter was brought all the way back to 1st
Derek Jeter should've been given 2nd Base anyway on the advance with A-Rod called out at 1st.
No... You don't get bases based on what "could have" happened. You must not watch baseball and you must be a Yankees fan.
@@jgfunk no I’m actually a Red Sox fan and what I was saying is that if Arod just accepted that he was going to be tagged out then he would have been tagged out at first and Jeter would have been in scoring position. But I just thought it was funny that Arod interfered with the pitcher causing Jeter to go back to first instead of being in scoring position

One of the greatest quotes in MLB history 😂
I chide a lot with my posts about Joe Buck, but honestly he is awesome.
@joeomalley2835 He's become one of my favorite commentators in sports.
Granted, I think he's a better baseball commentator than football commentator.
Anyone else realize that the 1st base ump still called A Rod safe WITHOUT EVEN TOUCHING THE BAG!
This was talk about in my animal since class 🤣 he was ruling there was no tag that's why he was safe. However he couldn't see the slap
first base ump was screened by the first baseman-Rodriguez touched first after the ball rolled away.
Learn the rules before commenting. That said, that was the correct mechanic whether or not he over-ran the base. He would be called out on appeal if the umpire saw that he missed the bag.
He ruled the runner safe after the attempted tag because the ball was dropped.
Which I never understood. You were right there. You could’ve called it then. It was right in front of you.
This is the most hilarious play of all time. My grandfather lost his mind watching this live when the first base ump called safe.
Haha, I love this play too.
My dad thought Arroyo simply dropped it at first glance lol
I remember screaming at the TV as a boy!! I still hate the Yankees!!
🤣 A-Rod does that so flagrantly and actually thinks he can get away with it.
This play was absolutely hilarious. Alex Rodriguez was such a bush-league player.
Lol, not even close.
Forget the cheating, my favorite part is he's called safe while being miles off the bag lmao
@@jonathanbaird8109As a Yankee fan, Arod did a lot of stupid stuff. The Jays in Toronto he yelled on a pop up when he was running in baseline and they missed a pop up.
The Luis Castillo failed pop up on Arod swing in 9th inning vs Mets just to win the game. Walk off Pop up. Arod had a lot of stupid and crazy moments as a a Yankee and a player. Plus the fight with Varitek in 2004 too. This on Arroyo in Game 6 ALCS.

In A-Rods defense your honor, he thought he was being handed a bad check.
Honestly I love this because it just makes the story so much better. One of those sports stories where there's clearly our heroes the Red Sox and the villains, Arod and the yankees. The Yankees are like the evil team from every baseball movie that the good guys have to play at the end lmao
Nothing from Boston can ever be the good guy. It's not called the Mississippi of the North for nothing.
Boston is gross lmao
New Yawk is so pretty 😍
Joe Torre: How DARE you get the call right! Don't you know we are the Yankees?
This cracked me up 😂
Jeter should have been sent to 2nd base not 1st. That was probably the argument.
@@xavierramos1270 Except no. That is not the rule. Believe it or not, the MLB playoff umpire's know the rule more than you. Once ARod cheated, it was as if the play didn't happen. So all runners were returned to the base that they were on when the play started. NOT where the umpire thinks he would have been if the runner was just thrown out anyway.
So no...that was not what the Yankees were arguing.
In Joe's defense, I'm going to say he probably didn't see what happened there. Even so, he has to make some sort of argument to stand up for his team.
@@ScottJ794 By the time he came out, they had show the replay on the jumbotron several times.
The umpires reversing the call and getting it right was when you could tell the curse was broken.
My Bostonian dad still gets excited talking about this
The Red Sox have won 4 world series since this moment, which is astounding. The Yankees only have 1 since 9/11.
Great call.
In SPITE of Joe West's presence LOL
@@navymusician822Joe West ultimately made the call dumbass.
A-Rod still complaining tonight at the Astros-Nats game after a similar call.
That's what brought me here 😂
Meanwhile Joe Torre is flip-flopping on what he considers interference.
😂😂 yup swatted the ball just like 15 years ago.
Once a cheater, always a cheater...
No argument there.
It's A-Rod, he's literally engaged to Jlo who obviously sleeps with NBA players behind his back. Ofc that's why he's with Jlo, cheaters stick together.
If you look closely not only does the ball come out of Arroyo’s glove the glove actually comes right off of his hand
That was one of the funniest moves ever!! Nice try Alex. Then the terrible acting, 😂.
A-Rod thought he was playing Slugfest.
Keep in mind, this was before instant reply, so all the umps had to base their ultimate decision on was what they saw, or thought they saw in real time. What a great job by umpires conversing and figuring this one out. I honestly like Rodriguez, but this was such a low-IQ, and more importantly, unscrupulous play to try to sell.
I lived in New York City area between 1999 and 2014.

the one time a manager argued his way to get the umpire to change the call
Pretty sure he just told the ump what he saw-and the umpires immediately got together. First base ump didn't see it-his line of sight was blocked by the first baseman.
Francona went over there much more calmly than usual cuz he knew there was a serious issue not just a blown call. Plus with the way every player on the Sox reacted the umpires probably had an open mind that something must've happened
Tito almost never lost it at the ump. So when he came out of the dugout with that kind of urgency the umps realized that this isn't like him.
Sometimes being the quiet guy pays off in big moments. Terry "Tito" Francona is the epitome of a quiet, wellspoken, polite manager. Boston fans called him "Francoma" at time for how reluctant he was to get ouut of the dugout and go defend his players. If this ruling gets Tito of all people hot under his hat we might need to look at this again.
Wish he was still on the Red Sox. Terry Francona was one of the good guys and always will be.
@@Johnny96ri first base ump didn't see it? He literally swatted it!
Torre even trying to defend what they did is even more pathetic
As the manager, he has to
Nonsense period

Still so happy that Arod is not in the hall of fame. What a jerk.
I had to travel to New York the next day from Rhode Island (same day as Game 7) and the New York sports media was ripping A-Rod a new one over this play.
Judging on umpire angles it was probably the 2nd base umpire that had the best view to overturn it.
DUDE LEGIT COST THE WHOLE GAME😭🙏
I feel like this series was the complete opposite of BOS vs. NYY in 1999. In that series, almost every single call went against Boston, including horribly bad calls like the phantom tag. In this series, they got almost every call right and that was before instant replay. I remember being shocked that they were overturning calls in NY in game 6, that went in Boston’s favor.
This is Major League Baseball not the NFL, A-Rod
One of the best and most hilarious plays ever.
Gotta love those classy Yankees fans
As soon as he contacted the glove he was out
Correct. What's your point?
Looks like Jim Acosta did same thing Kung Fu style.
man bryan wu has been pretty good in the last few games. (editors notes: *Past *3) Dictated not read - Conor kelly 2024
The best is how ARod is clapping like it's a legit play. He can't understand what the problem is when he's on second base. lol
Yeah, that clap when he sees the ball rolling. What a d bag.
Oh he understood... pathetic acting on his part. Big he definitely understood.
Bruh as a yankee fan and a fan of a rod even I knew this wasn’t fair when I saw it 😂
And the arod slapping the purse meme was born 😂😂
Naughty naughty Alex
No wonder why my mom hated A-Rod
I was so glad when the Yankees got Arod because that is when I called my college roommate and told her we are going to win the WS. She said we have being saying that for years. I answered Arod is a Jinx. The Dominican hitting the Cuban and I the Puerto Rican believing my observation. He jinxed the Mariners and the Rangers.😅😅😅😅
Yankees fans in a nutshell.
Could Obstruction have also been called on Minkaviecz?
No, because there was no contact between ARod and DM prior to ARod being tagged.
How were they able to make the correct call? Did one of the other umps actually see him do that, cause this was way before instant replay
They still had cameras to see what he did
Jonathan...no, they didn't have cameras. Where do you think they watched a monitor? (Also...it would have been against the rules to use replay at this point.) It was simply that one of the other 5 umpires (playoff game, so 6 umpires) had an unblocked view. Since it was so obvious, probably all 5 other umpires saw it clear as day. Chances are, at least two of them were clear that it was intentional or else they wouldn't have overturned it.
In the playoffs you have an ump down the line on each side of the outfield.
Rightfield ump probably saw it. He had a better angle than the first base ump. 2B ump may also have seen it.
Why is there any debate A-Rod swatted the ball ? What is this befuddlement? Soccer flopping in baseball. There’s no soccer flopping in baseball!
I was at the game with my Schilling jersey on by first base.I couldn't believe how ignorant Yankees fans were on that play.I Remember yelling at the field good call
Ah yes...slappy mcbluelips.
Do you remember when espn had those message boards? There was a username someone had that was slappymcbluelips...
Should’ve tagged em on his leg
And it looked out of the baseline
Baseline doesn't mean what most people think it means.
He could have avoided the tag anyway
Somebody help me, hey didn’t show, did arid even touch first base before heading to second?
Philip Francis doesn’t matter he’s still out
if he didnt interfere and miss first base red sox have to make an appeal to first base
Just before they cut away to show Jeter rounding third, you can see A-Rod heading back towards the bag to touch it before heading to second. We never get to see whether he touches it, but he's definitely moving in the direction of first base rather than second, so I think it's fair to assume he touched first base. Still out, though.
@@JonahLoeb Yeah he clearly missed it the first time but it does look like he was heading back to touch it before they cut to Jeter rounding third.
A-Rod and his ridiculous Hamburger Helper gloves clearly slaps the ball from Arroyo's glove and is rightly called OUT!! Yankees suffer greatest collapse in the history of MLB as the Red Sox come back from 3-0 deficit to win 4 in a row and then go on to sweep the Cardinals for the World Series Title. Yankees have never been the same since and have only one championship in the last 24 seasons......
This, and other transgressions (like steroids), is why A-Rod will not get into the Hall of Fame.
Not only was he a POS for that, he ended up hurting them. If he doesn’t do that, Jeter is at second. But he has to go back to first.
He probably could have slid under and around the tag anyway and gotten a hit.
A-Rod is the Isaiah Thomas of baseball.
Why didn't the nyy bunt against schilling
How did Torre argue this play lol. What a clown
Joe West got a call right for once.
Why is this illegal but at least back then trying to knock the catcher out wasn't
1:22 Joe Torre out there defending his player even when he knows his player is in the wrong. I'm not sure what I think about that. On the one hand, it's good for the players to know that your manager is going to have your back. On the other hand, Torre probably could have saved any goodwill he had with the umpires for a more meaningful argument.
And the first baseman was in the basepath without the ball.
So?
I remember this when I was in middle school. Right after that call they had to send the swat because the fans in the Bronx were throwing baseball onto the field and beer bottles too. They were about to riot. That’s where I got more into baseball especially these rivals times. Good old times! I miss it!

What seem worse than arod slapping the ball out of arroyos hand is seeing joe torre run too the field when he surely knew the call was right.im a Yankee fan all my life and clearly torre as being a manager knew the rules . wat was his point running into the field for .i mean was he blind also to not noticed his player slap the ball. Of course he saw it all mlb fans saw it ppl at home saw it. A managers job besides managing the team is 2 have powers of observation on your players. a sore loser he showed there. If it was the other way around surely joe torre would've Noticed and protested too just like terry francona did.fare is fare.. Love my Yankees regardless but i play fare and aint buyest towards them cause thats my team the red sox had a point fare and square
Torre has to back up his player, especially in front of the home crowd. It's his JOB.
That said, I am sure Torre lambasted him behind closed doors.
go back to elementary school
He couldn't see it? Arod never even touched the base, and that was clearly seen by the ump.
Franky Broadcast, The first base umpire was blocked and signaled safe when he saw the ball on the ground. The video doesn't show us if ARod touched the base or not. If he didn't, the runner is safe unless the defense appeals the missed base. It's a moot point anyway since ARod was out the when he committed interference.
The first base umpire had the worst view of that play of anyone in the field, because he's behind Miller and can't see a thing.
Tito probably pointed that out which is what prompted the crew chief to get the crew together and either the RF ump, the 2B ump, or the 3B ump, all of which had better angles on what was going on, saw the play more clearly and caused the crew chief to overrule the 1B ump.
hes a croook
No one ever mentions it, but it was a pretty pathetic hit to begin with. You're paying this dude more money than any other player in baseball history, and he grounds out 1B? In game 6 of the ALCS? Where was Raul Ibanez lol
A Rod was great in the regular season against mediocre pitching, and padded his stats with a lot of meaningless HR's when the game was already over. In the clutch he was generally horrible.
@@MM-yn9db I didn't even remember this until Mike Franseca brought it up but one of the biggest at-bats of the series was the 8th inning of game 5. Yankees had first & third with one out and Arod up against Timlin. If arod gets a hit or a sac fly, it's 5-2 and game over. Instead he struck out and the Sox rallied in the bottom of the eighth.
