    I'm an engineering student currently studying 60-70h a week studying and always right about midterms/ aka now I feel like I'm running on empty. Its great when you're in the flow I sometimes straight up enjoy studying. But later in the semester it feels so robotic everything builds up and I end up crying every night because I want to live life and not just study 24/7 and feel like my youth is slipping through my fingers but if I cut back my hours to under 50h a week I fall behind and am overwhelmed. I don't recommend this degree unless you're passionate . I would have quit a long time ago if not for the fact that idk what else I would do if I wasn't doing engineering.

      Crazy, for my computer science degree I had to work 40 hours/week at most (and yes, it was at an university). You have to learn to study more efficiently. I did it intuitively, but others seemingly have to learn this first, so try it out. I would help you incredibly.

    I have an eidetic memory, so I really never learned to study, until I hit med school. I learned I'm auditory, and taking notes was a waste. Thank heaven for note service. I always thought flash cards was for weinies, until micro... I also learned 4Am to 6 Am is prime study and retention time. And that regular exercise, no metter how pressed you are, aids processing. I had two class mates who over studied they're way out of school, cause they couldn't shut down..

    when do you make your anki cards? how much time do you commit to it (I find it incredibly time consuming)? how do you do it? I mean to ask, do you add them as you study, do you commit time to just card making, do you do something else?

    • @MarleeM-M
      @MarleeM-M  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Great question! I make my cards as i go along with lectures and as i get practice questions wrong. I find it easier to do them in the moment so i don't forget or get too tired to go back through the material again. I simplify the cards as much as possible, come up with my own abbreviations/vocab that cuts down on writing time, and try to limit the amount of info per card. At the beginning, card making is super time-consuming but you get more and more efficient at it the more you practice with it and you find your own shortcuts for how to get it done efficiently.

    • @MarleeM-M
      @MarleeM-M  Před 5 měsíci

      That's incredibly tough. Ultimately you've gotta do what works best for you, and take my advice with a grain of salt for sure but the best, most widely-applicable advice I have is to really focus on developing time management skills (find a system that works for you) and take care of yourself (sleep, eating, hobbies). Sounds basic I know but they really are that important, it's how I made it through school lol.

    have you ever burnt out? if so, how did you address it?

    • @MarleeM-M
      @MarleeM-M  Před 11 měsíci

      Oh yeah, i burn out just as much as anyone else. The basics like working out, trying to eat decent and prioritizing getting enough sleep helps prevent it most of the time. If it gets real bad though like when i have to pull 70-80 hr weeks before tests or something I'll give myself things to look forward to during/after studying like a reward system, the harder the study session the more fun the reward i treat myself to. Sometimes it's just chocolate, sometimes dinner at my favorite restaurant, maybe a live show i've been wanting to see, whatever motivates me at the time lol.

    @Great_PatBingsoo Před rokem +2

    “80 hours a week” yeah right. This is recipe for burnout. None of what you said here even addressed how to prevent burnout. You’re either lying, inefficient, or both. Hate that the algorithm promotes this sort of toxic grinding.

    • @MarleeM-M
      @MarleeM-M  Před 11 měsíci +5

      This worked for me when i needed to pull these kinds of hours, which I've often had to bc i'm not a genius, just a regular person who needs to work their ass off to pass. It sucks, but it's all truthfully what i did. How I study isn't going to work for everyone, so if it doesn't work for you that's ok, move on and find something that you resonate with more.

      @@MarleeM-M Let me put you at ease, I know a handful of geniuses (IQs 140 and above) and they had to do the same. I myself am highly gifted and had to study sometimes 40 hours a week (so also a lot; or even 50 hours a week when I hadn't done much throughout the semester and had to study for all the stuff 4 weeks before exams) too.
      Edit: typo lol

    Hi Marlee!
    I’ve just discovered you & this was the first video I watched!
    Firstly: *subscribed* 👍🏼✨
    Secondly: I absolutely LOVED this clip! A+++!
    I’m not a medical student- I’m a nursing student, but as you mentioned, the information you provided extends to anyone who is über busy and/or with a brain packed with info & panics at the thought of their “🧠 alarm system” (BAS), going off, a bit like this, for me anyway:(🔭.. 📑..⚠️/🆘 “INCOMING!!📣. ASSEMBLE ALL BRAIN CELLS IMMEDIATELY. I repeat, assemble all brain cells immediately. This is NOT a drill 📣”.
    My silliness aside, I found this to be extremely helpful, very motivating and of all the tonnes of videos I’ve watched on CZcams on this topic in the past few months, by far & without a doubt THE BEST, #1 clip I have watched. Straight to the put and proper, genuine information on how you get through. I appreciate that honesty SO much. ❤
    I’m yet to check if you’ve done a video on this or not (because I literally came straight to comment after watching this video) but if you *haven’t* done a Yt video dedication to your diet/meal routine and what foods you eat to help keep you at peak cognitive functioning, I would absolutely LOVE for you to do one and I know I am not alone there!!
    I’m unsure if you’ll even read or see this, but if you do I just have one more question..
    *what time exactly do you get up each study morning* ? And what time do you tend to go to bed?
    Wrapping it up here, thank you again 🙏🏼 so much for this extremely useful, helpful & inspiring video! Can’t wait to watch more content! Take care, 😊💫

      Hi Rhea, welcome and thank you so much for your comment! I LOVE getting feedback and suggestions, I’m so glad this video resonated with you! 💕💕💕
      To answer your questions, when I get up and go to bed is actually so variable depending on my school/rotation schedule and whether or not an exam is coming up. For example, the first two years of school I would often wake up at 7 or 8 and go to bed at 11 or 12 but on rotations (especially inpatient and surgery) I have to get up at 5 or 6 and then if I’m lucky be in bed by 10.
      I love the idea you mentioned, I’ve added that to the lineup so be on the lookout for it in July! 👀

    • @thear.363
      @thear.363 Před rokem +1

      @@MarleeM-M Awww thank you so much for replying to my comment Marlee! I’m glad you saw it, let alone to the time to come respond, so thank you! 🌟☺️.
      I was of two-minds as I was typing the question about what time you get up and go to bed mainly because it’s such a personal question. And of course it’s going to vary depending on your circumstances.
      I have come across a fair bit of the ‘rising at 3am’ method (for lack of a better name!) and wanted to see if that was your thing. But I can’t see how that would work outside of a daily study only regime. For eg. If you were rostered for night shifts.
      But my take away from what you said is that you seem to be trying to pull as much sleep time from each schedule you possibly can, which isn’t always much but one thing I have learned over time is that adequate sleep is invaluable.
      Oh yay, I can’t wait for new content Marlee!! In the meantime, however, I’ll be doing a binge session of your already uploaded videos!
      I think it’s also extra important to say, and I say this on behalf of other CZcams fans of yours, how much we appreciate the time it must take to create content, and to keep that flowing despite having undoubtedly the most hectic schedule a student/human can have! And although this effort is so deeply appreciated, *please* always put your well-being, health & happiness first & if you ever need a break from social media, you take as long as you need and I promise you we will be here when you get back. 🤗
      Oh and one other thing: I could not agree more about mnemonics. I live and breath mnemonics for study & I personally think they’re a highly underrated memorising technique! Ohh I’ve come up with some just plain weird ones but as you said, they’re more likely to stick! They certainly 👑 in my opinion!
      Apologies for the long msgs- they get away on me!
      Excited to see what’s around the corner, & keep up the humour, it definitely makes it extra special to watch! 😅👍🏼💖
      You rule, keep up this amazing content! ✨ Have a wonderful week! 🤩
