- In this video, Pye Jirsa shares how he uses the MagGrid, MagSphere, and ProGels to control, shape and color the light from his flashes to create incredible images in the studio. In this introduction to flash photography lighting fundamentals, Pye focuses on the importance of using MagGrids to control light so that it doesn't spill into the light from another flash, giving your background a nice saturated color. Pye also demonstrates why he loves the MagSphere + MagGrid stacked combo, which is one of the favorite combinations of modifiers that photographers love using.

Pye J s the TOP NOTCH photography teacher on CZcams with Gavin Howie. Always making complexity looks simple
Definitely one of the best out there! We are sure grateful that CZcams exists as such a great learning resource.
Appreciate it Riley!
Biy, this is great. Not only are you very knowledgeable in your craft, but your teaching style is clear and concise. Additionally, it is pleasing to watch your lessons without any pleading/begging for likes and subscribers.
You are a golden gem, 3.1416.
I totally agree!
I learned something new.
Thanks Pye
Awesome! We are glad you found it helpful!
Pye, thank you, as always, for explaining things so well. Even after years in the industry, I never fail to learn something new from you.
We feel exactly the same way. He does it so well.
Thanks for being here! Appreciate the kind words!
My gosh...I love EVERYTHING about this video! And how simple and fast to get that kind of incredible look!
We love that you love it! Pye breaks it down into bite size pieces making it so simple to go out and do ourselves. He's awesome.
Great video! I appreciate the side by side visual of adding and stacking the various modifiers.
We are glad you liked it!
Pye, you skipped over the part where you spent a half hour swearing, trying to get the MagGrip 2 over a round head flash! 😜
😂 alright we have to give it to you, that's pretty funny. But truthfully it should only be about 10 seconds of swearing before popping it on. Lol.
Quality content as usual! Thank you, Pye & Magmod 🙏🏼
PYE is an inspiration.
He is!
This was a great, valuable tutorial! Wasn’t sure how to use the grid.
Wonderful. Glad you found it useful!
Excellent video, as usual everytime.
Thanks so much! Pye always does an amazing job.
Thank you for this clear instruction film and demonstrations of these various modifiers
This guy is amazing
Wowowowowowow. This is exactly what I've been looking for!! I struggle with understanding how to exactly control light with my Mag Gear. I can't wait to see more from this series and try this technique out!! Thanks MagMod and Pye for this incredible content 😊
Also, nice shoes Pye! 👞 😃👍
Glad you dig!
Hi Pye, thanks for the great tutorial videos. I learned so much from you

He's pretty awesome. He's got that smooth silky radio voice as well!
Haha, appreciate it!
so good so inspiring to be more creative🙏
Superb....
Amazing 👍
We are glad you liked it!
Outstanding. In addition to your trademark clear and succinct teach ing style, for me what I really appreciated was the inclusion of the Flash power settings. As I learn more about off camera flash in manual, with the 2 exposure triangles (camera & flash) the power settings are new 'frontier'! :-) The question I have is about the zoom setting on the speedlights. I heard once to use 50mm for a softbox, what do you recommend for the MagMods? Thank you
It's amazing class
Glad you enjoyed it.
Love this! Just got my wedding flash kit yesterday & excited to use! Question, I’ve been only using one flash handheld for our wedding receptions but I’m excited to add two more on stands for dancing etc. I see Pye is using a nano stand in this video. Would you recommend that for. Reception setup or something else? I’m using Yongnuo flashes. Thanks
Yes, nanostands are my go-to for weddings. Just don't place large lights on them without someone standing nearby.
What causes the double edges on the shadow when using a softbox without the diffuser? Is the light source recessed a little too far?
When will the MAGMOD EXTENDER with fresnnel be available for telephoto lenses?
how is the sound's so crispy??
Pye have u left adorama tv?
Unfortunately. They let most the team go for now for budget reasons, hopefully, one day we'll be back with them again. They're a great crew and company.
