  • A another rare video called Journey Home The Animals Of Farthing Wood, this is a edited down version taken from the first series and made in a two hour video and was only release on VHS in the U.S. Very hard to come by.
Heroic Fox (Ralph Macchio), dutiful Badger, shy Mole, playful Weasel and their friends are on the move. They're The Animals of Farthing Wood and they're looking for a land free of bulldozers and humans - a safe place they can call home.

I freaking used to love this movie so much. I'm reading all these comments saying it must have been traumatizing to watch, and I will say it was a sad movie, but it is my favorite childhood film. I actually think it is the main factor that led to my being in the veterinary field. 😁

Idk, I'm American and I still like the UK version better. This could just be that I saw the UK version first 11 years ago and seeing this one for the first time now is revealing nostalgic bias but I feel I would like the UK version better even when I was 7 (when I saw the UK version for the first time). The voice of fox in the US version sounds like a teenager where as the UK fox sounded wise and proper, making his role as a leader seem more fitting when your first introduced to him. Another thing I noticed is, although both versions had choppy audio, it is a lot less noticeable in the UK version due to there British accents hiding it better then American accents can. When it comes to the over all violence, although I don't think its suitable for a lot of kids, I still like the UK version better, even as a kid show. When I was 7 the darkness and violence of this show is part of the reason I loved it so much. It made me feel more mature watching it and it was very different from every other kids show in 2007. This was especially welcomed by me because I would mostly make fun of kids shows for being to soft and not really get that much enjoyment out of them. I also think the darker aspects of the show make it just as enjoyable for me now as back then because its a lot like things I watch today such as Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead.

Holy shit this version is freaking me out! The British version of this show is my childhood and I'll never stop watching it - got the first two series on DVD. I never knew there was an American dubbed version of The Animals of Farthing Wood. I don't get why only some voices are dubbed and yet others are kept the same. Adder's is the worst, it's SO weird to hear such an American accent coming from an Adder. Fox's isn't so bad, but very weak and I actually admit Weasel's voice isn't quite as grating as the British version, but then, she's supposed to be annoying. The edited down version of the series to make it into a short film is woeful. It kept some important stuff but missed a lot of other important moments too. The songs and montages are awful and completely ruin the atmosphere, not suitable for this show at all. Some scenes are mixed up. For example, the moment when Fox was chased after by two dogs was after he met Vixen, but they made it as if it was before. I suppose at least they kept in some of the animals' deaths, especially the Hedgehogs. In all, a very weak American dub.

My best friend used to own this film, and after her family moved away they gave it to me. It's since been lost in the Pulga fire, and I've been looking for it forever--the songs and lack of violence were my first introduction to this series when I was a wee lass, and the background & (understandably) choppy plot (for lack of certain parts) sort of shaped my story-telling style. I've been able to find the series online, but never this one.

Yes, this is what we Americans got stuck with. I sometimes find this tape at thrift stores. It's like, they couldn't quite find anyone to air this at all and the best BBC's US branch could do was stick in these stupid songs and get a top celeb to voice a main character just for name recognition. It was just sad but I suppose it was either this or no Farthing Wood at all.

Strangely during the time this was originally shown, censorship was extremely strict. Nunchucks (real or animated) were banned from TV. Fox before sounded like a wise young adult leader, but this one just sounds like a kid in school. Plus the absense of weasels iconic voice is so off putting. The music is completely ridiculous, and the absense of death is unfortunate as they were some prettt powerful scene, and good for introducing and normalising the concept of death for young children.
