David announces that he is leaving Doctor who, and his last apperances as the Doctor will be the specials in 2009, and will not be returning for the new series in 2010. From the National Television Awards on 29/10/2008
I do not own this video, belongs to ITV.

If only we knew that 15 years later David Tennant would come back and make new episode as the Doctor!
And now he’s making 3 more!
I love the guard on the left just smirking away trying not to laugh.
+Andreas Axelsson He looked to me like he was trying not to cry...
Who needs left shark when you have left guard
Is there anything funny about biggus dickus?
@@obi501 He has a wife, you know...You know what she's called?
She's called...Incontinentia....Incontinentia Buttocks...

My heart just broke - again!
But technically he did return in 2010 by for 1 episode

I don’t want to go😩😭

@@showsandgamer9935 you mean when they showed his face in episode 1?
Lol Did you hear that girl scream in horror when he said that he wouldn't be on Doctor Who for the next season?
*sigh* tennant fangirls am I right?
I wanna say that first scream was a "Whoo!" of not actually understanding what he just said.
I cant help but imagine that it was from an overweight guy with a really low speaking voice
I bet this made it to one of the toughest moments in David's life: announcing his resignation as the Doctor - his favourite childhood tv show hero and hearing people's screams of betrayal.
I think I speak for all the 10th Doctor fans when I agree to this. But Doctor Who's essentially about moving on when you think about it. Not just in the case of The Doctor regenerating or the actors/staff leaving, but in the loss of companions onscreen. Rose is a great example of this, because of how long it took The Doctor to get over it.
Ryan McFly Much agreed.
@@TARDISFanMan he never got over her noooo
@@anyatindall5678 Uhh yess he did lool.
Honestly I think looking back on it this would be one of the best: the fact that people were so enamoured with your time as the doctor that they would scream in joy for another season of you in the role and then scream a second time in betrayal hearing you won't be in the one after. That he was so beloved as the Doctor to genuinely elicit both (not just the "woo" you hear at concerts) speaks volumes
I just love the fact that the moment that he announced he was leaving, the audience went from cheers of joy to cries of shock.
DT : "But when Doctor Who returns in 2023...It will be with me"
Audience scream : "YEAAAAAHHH!!!!"
I love how he and Catherine Tate just start having a casual conversation as if the audience wasn't there!
That’s what I love about those two.
It's why I love them
honestly i dont think anyone would have minded if david stayed for the next like 10 years
Would be better than the sad state of affairs it's in now.
@@deathbyzergling 100%
deathbyzergling I would take 10 years of episodes like “love and monsters” rather than an hour of Jodie Whittaker 😂
Love & Monsters is a great story.
@@yannatoko9898 i rewatched it the other day for the first time since it aired, i remember it being a lot better, still better than 100% of the episodes from Jodie's run. Chris Chibnall is to blame since jodie isn't a terrible actress
How the hell did he get through the second half of Hamlet after THAT?!
+Natasha Finch Probably a lot easier than the first half knowing he was about to make such a major announcement.
I think when you’re sad (because you just announced that you’re leaving Doctor Who) it might actually make it easier to play a character as depressed as Hamlet
Damn right it's been life-changing, he got a wife and 3 kids out of it!
4 kids🤗
His wife is Peter Davison's daughter, also she was the doctors daughter in the episode the doctors daughter
5 soon 😂
By know there are 5 children
5 kids 🥰🥰🥰
Awwww poor David, it seemed like he was getting a bit choked up while saying his big announcement. It was amazing that he made the announcement himself. I cry every time I watch the regeneration. David Tennant didn't play the Doctor, he WAS the doctor, and will always be my doctor.
Well. Good news.
Let us not forget how incredible Catherine Tate is! Fantastic actress, so funny and my favourite doctor companion so far!
Catherine: "Soon, next month, next month." David: "Oh yeah, she always says that."
XD i hadn't heard that, thanks ! ^^
"I voted for you, I dunno what went wrong."
"Ohh.... damn you." XD
I think why I love this wonderful man is because he is so real. He was nervous and awkward and gawky without ever seeming unprofessional and my god, he'll be my Doctor.
I remember seeing this and just feeling my heart sink. It was just one of those moments.
I just finished reading The Writer's Tale: The Final Chapter which includes all the organisation and build-up of having David announce his departure at the NTAs. With that in mind, it's funny at 0:55 where Russell T Davies' eyebrows shoot up and he leans forward knowing what David is about to do. In the book he says, "I almost thought [David] wasn't going to say it." which I like to think was going through RTD's mind at that moment.
+MeBeMat ah the writer's tale was such a great book, i ordered a second-hand copy of the final chapter the other day and can't wait to get stuck in to it
I haven't finished it yet, but I just finished the chapter about Operation COBRA a few minutes ago. As soon as I closed the book, my fingers scrambled to type words that would lead me to this video. I was not disappointed. Can't wait to finish the book!
I pulled up this video as soon as I got to the part in the book where the announcement happens, so that it's "live" as it were. I can almost feel RTD's mortal terror in that one eyebrow raise XD
(aight, gotta get back to the book now, find out what happens next)
Why am I about to cry when he calls Catherine gorgeous, when she calls him "love", and when he says he loves her ?
I was on holiday with my parents when this originally aired, my parents saw it and me being a massive doctor who fan and a massive tenth doctor fan, my parents chose not to tell me so that it didn't ruin my holiday. They told me literally the day we got back. David tennant is still my doctor that I grew up with. And my personal favourite doctor. He made my childhood great.
I have a feeling Donna would take that award from the Doctor and never give it back in the most comedic way possible. XD
"I have to kill Patrick Stewart, look!"
Laughing through the tears, the heart of every single Doctor Who fangirl was breaking.
I was at the Hamlet performance in Stratford when he announced this and so didn't find out until the show had finished....broke me heart
That guard on the left seems to be having a lot of trouble keeping his composure.
Well yeah, he just found out Tennant was leaving Dr Who
Every time he says "...it won't be with me" my heart drops and I tear up! I miss him so much.
Wait wait wait... Tennant was in a performance of "Hamlet" with him as Hamlet... and PATRICK STEWART as Claudius?! Holy crap, I need to see this.
It's a great performance! And available on DVD

No problem! I have it bookmarked on my computer. :)
Claire Verdoorn: Only a few stories from the first and second doctors. Every story after Two's final story still exists and can be bought on DVD.
Tennant: "BUT when doctor who returns in 2010..."
Girl: "YEAAAH"
Tennant: "it wouldn't be with me"
Girl: "NOOOOO"
Loooool
I remember watching this live and shouting “NOOOOO” when he said he was leaving 😭
I'm thinking about where I was in 2009, and how I was completely clueless to Doctor Who and Christopher Eccleston's/David Tennant's era. Literally, history happening under my nose. I can almost go back to those memories and feel it skipping me by. Like suffering Anticipatory Nostalgia. Man what I wouldn't give to experience it live. What a good fucking time.
It was fucking amazing. The wait for the 3rd n 4th seasons.. the reveal that rose was coming back. The reveal that Prof YANA was The Master after a long time waiting. All crazy moments 😍
David Tennant- But when doctor who returns in 2010
Member of audience- Yeahhh
Hahaha i couldn't stop laughing
David: it won't be with me
Audience: NOOOOOOO
I just LOVE his relationship with Catherine and the way he talks about her.
Awww David and Catherine!!!! These two they are great!!!
you're a ray of sunshine aren't you
Accepting your BAFTA from your performance as Hamlet with the RSC has to be one of the most badass actorly things ever.
I watch this right now and cry. Why am i crying
+Jenna Saxon The same
Same😭
I can't believe I didn't find this earlier
I feel like the show hasn't been the same since he left.
The show hasn't been the same since Susan Foreman left.
+RexBlyCody agreed
+Jennie Leonard Well yeah, that's what happens when The Doctor regenerates.
+RexBlyCody Yeah the show has really gone downhill since that tosser Patrick Troughton took over.
+Jennie Leonard that has nothing to do with him leaving, it's because moffat replaced RTD
Still to this day I owe this man my life, going through school i wasn't given the best experience & was always treated differently. However when i saw David on the TV fighting monsters/saving lives & giving life advice that i used throughout my life & still do, it just makes me want to thank him. Doctor Who is just a character on the lunchbox' but the person playing the role can change your life.❤
Hopefully your doing better/ well now.
@@annieinwonderland Thank you & yeah I'm loads better than what I used to be, still have the odd day's where I feel terrible but I now pull through.
lol I love it.

I love David Tennant! He didn't look happy announcing he was stepping down. Good guy.
Still breaks my heart... :'(
SingenStatt Atmen can I cry with u
2008, i was just watching NTAs, and then David announces this and my world falls apart. I was devastated.
how about now that he is back?
*David:* When Doctor Who returns in 2010, it won't be with me...
*Fans:* No! No! Say it isn't so! The humanity!!!
*David:* ...And that's because I'm saving my return for 2023! So stick around until then!
*Fans: **_Hold up_*
Yes, it's a sad moment, but watching David Tennant pull a knife will never get old. XD
Tennant's timing, like his acting, is impeccable. He's chosen to leave the show when his popularity is at its zenith - a very, very brave thing to do, like his decision to accept the role in the first place.
Popularity and fandom acclaim obviously doesn't mean that much to him. He was always more intellectual than most actors of his generation and the desire to hone his craft will forever motivate him to seek out more demanding challenges.
And given his recent critically acclaimed
When David Tennant left doctor who I only cried for 2 months. That´s okay ´cause firstly I though I´d never stop...
Na I been trough a depression more a year
I'm in tears watching this. Loved David as his Doctor . Brilliant!
1:21 - Tennant definitely had the most fan girls than any other Doctor.
I mean he is the best looking Doctor! (Paul McGann was also very handsome)
This is too sad! Even David looks like he wasn't gonna be able to keep it together! Poor guy
i love david as a doctor, cause he got this awesome expression: when he smiles, he does it with all the heart and when he is sad, you can not only see it on his face, but deep in the eyes, too. and his whole body is acting with him, not just face. so that's why i love him as a doctor and i'm really glad to see him getting a reward. but what is important too, is that it was time for him to leave. he had wonderful three seasons with dw and i think it was enough. after all sad moments he had to go.
They on only made the sad storylines because he decided to leave. But saying that it was brilliant & sad in equal proportions. He will always be my favourite doctor (and that's with a guy who loved Tom Baker as I grew up).
well this aged well
i think my favourite line was in the idiots lantern when the doctor was arguing with the father and the father is like “I AM TALKING” and the doctor was like “AND I’M NOT LISTENING!!!!” It kills me every time😂😂😂
He's so YOUNG! But he's always so young - the years are sitting lightly!!
The first time I heard him say those words... man, I was devastated. But I understand his position, and I'm glad he said it out loud for everybody to hear instead of us knowing 'bout it through the morning papers.
He made the right decision, to get out at the height of his popularity and before he was typecast.
And now…he’s coming back!! He really didn’t want to go 🥹
I remember where I was watching this back in 2008, I was 12 years old, I was visiting relatives in the midlands and was in the hotel room watching the NTA on the small hotel TV, I'll never forget the shock of hearing that he was leaving, something was choking up in my stomach at the time, an important part of TV Childhood was about to come to end, thank you David Tennant, I know your in doctor who for the 60th anniversary now, but I've sadly grown out of Doctor Who by now.
The fucking guard on the left
that one girl just screaming louder than the rest is my new mood
Aw I miss David so much on Doctor Who, and the fact that he didn't want to leave either makes me actually want to cry:( He's such a talented actor. Loved him on Broadchurch
That one girl who screamed "YEAH" spoke too soon. It was hilarious though, so at least we have that.
OK, I have been in denial about his leaving until now! This video just made me cry! I cannot believe he is leaving the show! And he and Catherine together, are brilliant! They worked and played well together! Apparently, David's still here in L.A., I'm gonna have to drive around on a hunt for my Doctor! Wish me luck!
Well, did you ever find him? 😂
I was screaming and shouting at the TV watching this!! So devastated when he left!! I cried in his last episode!!
I remember when this was on, I had it on in the background, wasn't really paying attention too hard...and then I heard this, and dropped the work I was doing, went "WHAAAAT?" and teared up a bit.
Thank God Matt Smith picked up the character so well, it lessens my sorrow : D
when his voice cracked my heart broke...
I can remember this and I just sat and cried
David TENnant. TENth doctor.
Not the doctor in twenty TEN.
Missed opportunity.
...ten years and a day...
Nicholas Wright Unless you count the New Year's special
He was also on Top Gear Season 10 Episode 10
In fairness, his name isnt actually Tennant, its McDonald.
@@VadersFist95 and to be fair he legally changed his name to Tenant sometime during his run on doctor who
Favorite line of the interview "I have to go back on stage now, I have to kill Patrick Steward look *pulls out prop switch blade"
omg he was gonna cry!!!!I ve never seen an actor caring that much for his fans, and being so..full of life as david!here in greece, there is song that says that actor means light..and david DEFINATELY is an actor!go go david!whatever your decision may be,just know you have all of our support!!
Forever my doctor
He’s back 😁
Oh dear, wonder how it's gonna be when he leaves again after the 60th anniversary next year and regenerates into Ncuti Gatwa.
He was talking about deep breath that he has to take :D Dr. Who season 8 episode 1 is called Deep breath :D TIME TRAVEL :D
can you believe this was nearly 10 years ago and i still miss him
David Tennant was my favorite Doctor. Love him and on the stage!

My heart stops balling my eyes out! I love you David and always will!!! Xxxx
I just love the guard on the left who tries to resist to laugh/cry, he's so funny.
Even he seems to be trying to not cry...
Isn't it weird that even now this video makes me cry? It's just because I miss Him as the Doctor more than anyone can imagine...
He returned as the 14th, so cheer up
I imagine I'm not the first to find this video after David's return has been confirmed.
I remember this and feeling so heartbroken when he said he wasn’t going to be The Doctor in 2010. Tennant is and will always be my Doctor, glad to see him back again playing the fourteenth doctor 😊❤️

even though its been over a year it still feels like only yesterday when he broke all of our hearts when he said, "when doctor who returns in 2010...it won't be with me"
so heartbreaking :(
I've been crying since I heard about this! I love him! The show definitely won't be the same without him. Hopefully, he'll move on to do some other awesome stuff, that I can watch from Canada! Thanks for posting!
During his last episode I burst into tears screaming alonzi
still gets me oh my god David x
It's 2021 and I don't know why, but I'm crying!
I'll miss him a huge bunch, and my missus will miss him even more. Thanks for the memories Mr Tennant!
Not going to lie I actually cried when he announced he was leaving :(.It was most probably the most saddest moment of my life
My heart is breaking! I love David so much, and I loved his series so much- However, I do not like when people say that they stopped watching after the Tennant years. The direction that the show has gone in the past few series has been so good, Moffat is a genius.
Oh, David...you were MY Doctor. I so dearly love Ten, it's going to be hard to see him go. Regenerations always make me cry. Hopefully Eleven will also be brillant.
He sounds choked up when he says it won’t be with him 😭
So it's Spock giving The Doctor an award, who is about to go kill Jean-Luc Picard.
Hassaan Mirza wibbly wobbly timey wimey
The thing is, he always meant to leave at this time. But you know he had to have rethought it a hundred times.
Can't wait to see what happens when RTD returns to helm the show again.
He actually was deciding for a very long time. Moffat even already told him some stories he was writing for him. He didn't know whether to stop or continue. But then finally made this decision
Aww this is sad news that David is leaving! I loved him as the Doctor! It won't be the same... :(
Makes me cry a little.
XD The Guard on the left was trying not to laugh! XD 1:40
don't make me cry aw
I love how they make it a socail event between the two of them on stage in front of all those people !! Love you
Still feels like yesterday when he made that announcement.
