Our guests today are Sunshine, Savvy, and Sunya. They are three beautiful women who moved from the USA to Mexico at different times in their lives. After a few years in the Lake Chapala area, they found each other and are now living a great life in San Nicolas Ibarra.
Learn their stories about moving abroad and how living in Mexico is a breath of fresh air compared to their lives in the United States.
They talk about racism in Mexico, whether or not they feel safe as single women, renting challenges, and some common surprises. And the challenges they have had to overcome by moving to Mexico.
And even though learning how to live in a country hasn't been without its challenges, they say they love their lives in the Lake Chapala area and are thriving. They also show us around their new Bed and Breakfast (Soujourner Vista del Lago), which aims to help people come and find a relaxing place while they scout the area.
But one thing I can tell you from this interview before you watch it is that these beautiful women were a delight to listen to. I hope you enjoy it!

Thanks for watching! We made a typo on the taxi fares- it’s $500 pesos not $500 USD. Here are some free resources I have made for you!

A small point. She said the cost to the airport was 500 pesos (30.00), not 500USD. 🙃
@@qw2659Yeap sorry we made a typo. Oops
It’s $500 pesos not $500 usd
That lady is 70? Good lord, she looks amazingly young. And a pretty lady as well.
That's the same thing that I was thinking! She looks good!!
We are family Mexicans and African or Black American brothers. Welcome to my country, hermanos. I'm happy to have you here in Mexico
Love this! As a white woman my feelings are that anywhere that women of color feel safe is a place I would love to travel to. I was happy to hear that they have embraced the culture and the language. Happy for them and their continued adventures.
It’s great to have this type of African Americans in mexico, well educated, welcome 🤝
So happy these 3 are living their best lives in Mexico.
apparently they don't have family who care about them
@@emilystevens6335- How do you know? SMH! 😂
Mee too. I'm happy for them
@@emilystevens6335as a black women I'm gonna say Nah!! They tired of America white bee-ess. That what they don't love
@@emilystevens6335what an ignorant comment given that you don't even know these wonderful ladies
I've lived in Mexico for a couple of years and I love it. Ive been stopped by the police twice, but once they realized I'm older, retired, living on a small pension, don't do drugs, rarely drink, don't party and I'm fascinated with the language, culture and art of mexico our interactions are simply greeting one another.
Crime is everywhere, even in the USA.
you'll be deported soon because you don't meet residency guidelines
I am acquainted with Sunya and she has been very supportive and instrumental in helping create a soft landing once I arrive in Chapala this August.
She is missed in Albuquerque!!!!
Chapala was beautiful when I was there in 1993, my daughter's dad and I loved the food and the people... and not being scared of the police was such a different experience from NC & VA.
We settled in Albuquerque after we left Mexico, because out of all the places we visited, Albuquerque was the closest to staying in Mexico.
My favorite parts of Mexico were learning where to safely eat from the taxi cab drivers, exploring the ruins with the locals on Sundays, and the beautiful mothers, aunties, and grandmothers of Oaxaca.
May you enjoy your journeys!
“I’m not afraid of the police in Mexico….” That says it all, doesn’t it?
Agreed
Yup. Bc American police are monsterous kkkops. Of course not all but too dag on many. When it comes to black ppl kkkops are hired to harm and to kill but yt folks they serve and protect. I'm glad these ladies fill at peace
tbh its only the white gringos who are considered rich and are in danger of being robbed. Your much safer if ur black.
tbh you're only in danger if ur white gringos coz criminals think only they have the bucks...
LMAOOOOOOOO
Beautiful, I’ve always felt an “hermandad” with my black brothers and sisters and am so glad to see more coming to my country. Abrazos y calidos bienvenidas hermanas bellas!!Thanks for your conscientiousness. 🙌🏾
This is what it should be when you relocate to México. Not all the "Ex-Pats" that buy up communities, gate them and make it so expensive for locals, refuse to learn Spanish and only stick to hanging out with people like themselves. These women are a beautiful example of how cultures learn about each other, accept each other and share each other's ways. I'm curious to know besides the drivers who provide services to them do they have other friends here that are locals?
Amen! I speak Spanish and love how it allows me to interact with the locals.
Some English people do the same in Spain: refuse to learn Spanish, live in their ghettos and only get news from the UK. Sad.
@@cassandraandrews6656 they changed the financial requirements because they don't want you
Agree with you 100% i feel there are those whom will try, only to get by, but then when they form a colony or society, will forget they live in another Country that’s not their own. As Mexicans we are very welcoming and warm towards other nationalities, but is nice to know people will do their best to associate with Mexicans just like we Mexicans do
Welcome to my Country.
You three woman are fabulous! I loved this video. Shopping local, giving back, volunteering with indigenous woman.....great job!
So happy for you, I’m moving to my native Honduras in a few months. My husband and I will be retiring in December we built our home and God willing we will be enjoying beautiful weather, good food and beautiful beaches.
Ive been scouting in Mexico because I will be moving me and my family out of the U.S. The best thing I love is seeing our people being in peace while talking to those who left the U.S. Ive met so many women over 60 that have left and they all look so good.
Check out El Salvador it's the safest country in Latin America thanks to our great president Bukele
@@JoJo-gr1rp how is it for blacks there? If you are aware.
@@ronicmwest401 it's great! We have Afro-Salvadorans
@JoJo-gr1rp ok I'll start researching. Any youtube channels you suggest.

All of your videos have been very informative. This is my favorite. Spotlight on seasoned women thriving in Mexico. I wish the best for them 🧡
Glad you enjoy them.
Ladies… I’m so happy that you found that wonderful property! And I’m blessed that we have built a relationship. I hope our paths will cross again very soon. 🤗
We actually may have seen these ladies at the malecón in Chapala. We will have to be sure to say hello to them! 😀👋
I’m thinking of relocating, hope I can have the same wonderful experience. Good luck to you wonderful ladies!
Awesome - I’m currently in Huatulco since May 10th doing my exploration trip and so far I’ve accomplished more than I expected…
I have so many rental options and I’ve been embraced by this culture that tears of joy have been shed.
I’ve begun my temporarily residency and hopefully by End of January 2025 - I will be making Huaturco my home…
Thank you so kindly for these three amazing ladies that truly are a lovely uplifting force to myself and others - be blessed and know I will come to visit you all once I’ve settled in Huaturco…🦋💞🦋
This is where I want to visit! I wish I could meet you.

I too am looking on the Lake Chapala areas.
Seeing independent women living their best lives is truly inspirational.
Muchas gracias 🙏🏽
De nada! TY for watching and sharing words of encouragement.
Lake chapala is the Lake Tahoe minus the snow chill & relax setting
You ladies have filled my heart with gratitude for Mexico. The way you speak of your city and locals is very considerate and kind. Would love to have some of that chicken and waffles when I'm back to the area!❤🎉😊
Great video.
I visited Chapala in 2019, my friend Ramon owned several properties there.
I found the History and People very welcoming.
In whole I found the state of Jalisco
very Beautiful and look forward to visiting again. ✌️
EXCELLENT video.
Loved hearing their perspectives.
Congrats to all of these ladies.
Bienvenidas a Mexico!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a pleasant group of ladies, their demeanor the way they express about Mexico, the way they are adjusting to the country and the culture is admirable, their atention to detail as well. Just so that they know, there was a time, not long ago when you could buy half a cheese, half or a quarter of a chocolate bar/tablet, the beans and most of groceries were wraped in paper cones to be sold to the public ..they still sell batteries by the piece. Greetings to the 3 of the them.
TY so much. We continue to grow in wisdom and knowledge of how to navigate this journey. And I keep falling deeper in love with this beautiful life.
Retired teachers living it up abroad☀️😃
Yes! And loving it!❤
Thanks so much for this video. I am leaving to Chapala in a couple weeks +, and I hope I run into these women. Of course, my plan is to stay as long as possible. Lovely.
TY for the kind words. We hope to see you when you’re here.
Welcome to our beautiful Mexico. If you learn to love Mexico; Mexico will take you as one of its own! I can't wait to come back home, myself.
Gracias!🙏🏾 Well said.
What a fantastic interview! I am looking forward to meeting these wonderful ladies when I visit Ajijic/Chapala later on this year.
Three well adjusted successful in life women, how refreshing and bravo towards their attitude to be willing to mix and work within the community. Bravo!!!
TY for your kind words and encouragement.❤
What a wonderful pleasure to receive the honest reviews on many topics by three lovely ladies. For me one special comment was that they prayed, before moving to where they are now living in Mexico. I tend to believe all their information and views were directly from the heart. Best wishes on your new journey..
TY for your kind words and encouragement. We continue to take everything to God in prayer asking for wisdom and guidance.❤
You found paradise, ladies. Great content.
Loved this!
I’m so glad you enjoyed it. Blessings.
The mexican man says my sister..just warm my heart so much.. Those kadies are our families thank for welcoming them..much love to mexico tor that
wonderful interview, glad to see these ladies thriving
Nice interview and video. Even as a happy client of Mexico Relocation Guide I still enjoy watching these videos. Thank you Mariana.
Thank you for this very interesting and informative video. Great job ladies!
It takes less than an hour to get to the airport depending on the time and traffic it will vary but generally around 35 minutes (from Chapala, Ajijic, and San Nicholas)
That Olmec head is so cool!
3:35 As Mexican I give a warm WELCOME to these 3 wonderful ladies and I hope they could continue enjoying they retirement as their teen years.
One of the best interviews I've seen!! Great!!!
I love, love this!!! Thanks for sharing, ladies. 💕💕💕❤️❤️❤️
so nice! Thank you all for your beautiful messages and information 😊
Ladies, I’m definitely excited about seeing Mexico because of your video. Thank you!
Awesome thank you for sharing
Welcome to Chapala, beautiful ladies!
Wonderful women with great views on Mexico. I remember Sunshine from a previous video, glad to see that she is doing well.
One of these ladies is right about the freshness of the vegetables. Another american once said: I eat like a donkey here in mexico, and never worry about gaining weight cause most mexican food is free of of pesticides, fertilizers. Most dairy products and eggs are hormone free products
This is truly refreshing and I’m so glad to hear these beautiful women are enjoying life just like it is intended to be lived. ❤
I love this. I'm thinking of living in Mexico in 6 months
Thank you for this video ❤❤
De Nada! TY for watching.
You are awesome! So important to integrate with and help the local community
So happy to hear your ladies story. What A beautiful coach and house you found.
Enjoyable to watch. Thank you
TY so much.
De nada! Glad you enjoyed it.
Great video, ladies Thanks for talking positively about México.
There's an Afro-Mexican community in Mexico! I think they originated in Oaxaca but not sure. I found out all speak Spanish. Call me ignorant but I was blown away! They were wonderful people.
There's afromexicans in border of Oaxaca and Guerrero states on the beaches chacahua
This made me miss my life in Honduras...what an interesting video. The lake looks amazing visually- reminds me of Lake Atitlan if Antigua was shore side
We’re so glad you enjoyed the video.
Bienvenidos a mi país México welcome my country🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🎉
What a wonderful attitude these ladies have. My wife and I met sunshine in San Nicolas with another youtuber. Saludos a todos!

Guadalajara is a huge modern city!!!
Great insight into Chapala. Fun ladies.
TY! We truly love and appreciate each other. I’m blessed to have Sunya and Sunshine in my life.❤
I've been living for six years, not far from these nice ladies. I'm in San Antonio Tlayacapan. I live up on higher ground with a special view of Lake Chapala and the mountains, and I love it. Great neighbors, beautiful weather, excellent food, perfect medical care, and much more. As an 80 y/o I plan to age out right here, with no plans to go back to the USA.
This is inspiring
Muy bonita experiencia de vida...Saludos
Thank you ladies! These was so inspirational! I am looking for a place to go with my 80 year old mother. We need a change of lifestyle and scenery.
hi! we can help
you move to Mexico. Check out our free resources mexicorelocationguide.com/blog/
I considered Mexico some years ago for my retirement. I chose Jamaica instead ( my native country). I would still like to visit Mexico.
The people are friendly and such hard workers.
Such a lovely group. I'd be interested to know if the ladies were intent on living in Chapala (vs Ajijic area) or if they randomly ended up in Chapala.
I visited Ajijic and didn't like the energy there. I intentionally decided on Chapala after living in Guadalajara for several months.
Thank you Ladies for sharing your perspectives and experiences!
De nada! TY for watching and your kindness.
I plan to join you in the not too distant future. I believe the Lord is leading me to La Paz in Baja California Sur.
That’s great! I’ve heard good things about La Paz.
Agreed, come to MX and speak Espanol practice, practice Practice 🎉🎉🎉🎉
I just finished my first level of a Bloom in Spanish course created by a former Spanish teacher. That coupled with my Duolingo app is serving me well.
You from VA.? Me too. Enjoy. Great atmosphere.
Wonderful Ladies….living a meaningful life🌷
I miss you Donna. I’m glad you’re doing well 🙏🏽❤️~Alicia
@MexicoRelocationGuide at 13:38 she said it costs 500 pesos to airport but on screen the taxi ride was put as 8,550 pesos/$500.
thanks- that was a typo
Thank you for clarifying because that scared me!
I’m from Guerrero look it up we are very diversified you are all classy looking ladies hope you enjoy your stay
God Bless you three beautiful ladies.
I’ve been watching a CZcams from Michigan recently and her child has a cut so she walked over to the store in their ranch and bought a couple bandaids. Your battery story reminded me of that. That’s so different from the states
Welcome in Mexico. Good Look!
I love you ladies ❤❤❤
Now this is the wonderful common sense attitude foreigners living in mexico should have, thank you ladies, unfortunately some foreigners like the ones the ladies are talking about think that the world owes them something and we all know who those Americans are, there is no room for racism in mexico, welcome ladies
