Wow. I didn't know living in Bali could be so affordable. I hope I can visit one day
Donโt know why these links dont work for me!!!
Not so simple, you still need to be either over the age of 65 for pensioner visa or have citizenship, which can cost hundreds of thousands or take years or both.
What is the long term visa status???
I am on disability. How does that work?? Getting monthly amounts deposited directly onto a debit card. But, is it legal to live in Bali and collect U.S. disability??
So glad to see people living their lifes not just surviving
99.99999% do,so what
WTF.... is wrong with this man? Calm, happy, caring, and able to share his thoughts freely without fear of being jailed, bullied, or ostracized. Give your head a shake, mate, grow up! ...lol........Grateful, finally selling my home and removing the toxic energy. Thank you for sharing, stay safe, much love
Ring of Fire? Terrorism? Volcanoes? Tsunamis? Severe smog, asthma from cutting jungles! Whoaaa! Cowboy๐ง LoL
@Pam Spencer Pam....have been staying in Mazatlan, Sayulita, Bucerias, PV, even Venezuela over the last forty years. The changes I have seen are more gringos like me, ridiculous developments with outrageous pricing along with media highlighting drug cartels and travel advisories, some improvements in the standard of living. In my city in Canada, the changes I have seen. Ridiculous rise in my property taxes, home prices, water/ garbage bills etc. Homelessness is considered the worst in the Western world. Police in what seems to be killing it's citizen's for sport, because their feeling are hurt, governments imposing their singular agenda, punishing their own people for respecting our forefathers' efforts and sacrifices. Our educational system so dumbed down that we rank in the lower percentile of industrialized nations. A health care system that is again one of the most expensive and inefficient in the Western world. Mexico and Sweden demonstrated courage during the pandemic, and their leadership made the intelligent and caring decision.
So Pam, I have never experienced what you have highlighted to the degree it would deter me. Other than drinking water, no biggie. Here is what I have experienced and encountered. The cartels and police corruption always have a twenty dollar bill at the ready. Always be aware and remove yourself the FEW times this happens. My city, police far more intrusive with law-abiding citizens. The weather just comes with the territory. My ability to see a doctor or dentist far easier access and WAY less expensive in South and Central America. I know the government of Mexico and understand corruption it is on a SMALL SCALE compared to the US/Canada, we just have lobbing groups. My country is everything politicized, and corruption cost it's citizens billions of dollars. So in the end, would I rather live in a country where it's citizens fight every day to better their lives, are kind, generally happy, and I am not reprimanded for saying Mr, Mrs and Ms? Would I continue to give my money to a government that squanders it like there is no tomorrow?
I do respect your writing but simply disagree. The world is changing, and the good changes are not in the USA/Canada.
Are you not glad you commented.....lol.... Pam more than 70% of the world's population is simply tired of the Western's worlds bulling agendas. Born, raised, and educated in the US/Canada. Cannot understand how we are spitting out degrees right, left and centre and yet our population is unconscious and dare I say uneducated.
Do I feel better? Thanks for highlighting the real world Pam....stay safe and have a giggle-:)
Something I noticed about Central and South America, no mass shooting by its citizens, interesting factoid......curious why this is......-:)

That is what I spent living in Laos '$500.00" a month for three years 2019-2022, except my rent was $120.00 month for a very nice one-bedroom apartment 11km outside of Vientiane. I wish I could post photos of my apartment. I saved $1,150 a month from my SS. When I left Laos after three years to go to the Philippines, I had over $34,000 US saved from those three years.

great job
How safe is it living in Bali; i'm 77 on my own on SS; and it sounds pretty great living there in Bali; 3-29-23
@@VagabondAwake yes, we all want that, great idea!
SO WHAT DID YOU DO? DID YOU BECOME A CITIZEN THERE? AFTER YOUR VISA RENEWAL EXPIRED?
When I add the numbers, his costs that are on the list come out to $705.10 a month, which is still ridiculously cheap. The bulk of his spending is on food (groceries + restaurants = $410), where he could save even more by staying out of restaurants. However, with costs this low, I'd be eating in restaurants a lot, too.
Thanks for making that correction. :-)
i have lived in bali many times. take 2k usd. you can try on 1k but it aint happening.
Literally you are dumb you can make it easily 300 dollars a month. ๐and have a good life. But you all want to eat food from usa western life and always go out. ๐
Took early Social Security at 62 and a half and never looked back! Just know the rules and abide by them. When you reach FRA (Full retirement age) the restrictions drop. I did a ton of research, listened to all of the doom and gloomers and did it. Can't wait for future phases of my life and am thrilled about living my life my way. Thank you for this video...I subscribed and can't wait to learn more!!
What about if u on disability?
@@knowledgeberakah1728 No idea because I am not. I would research the heck out of it on youtube, do google searches and talk with the Social Security Administration. I have a feeling that disability comes out of the same thing so it would be one or the other, but not sure. Good luck!!
What restrictions are you referring to please? Thx
restriction on earned income.@@isabellaflorentina7574
I honestly like the calm cool approach to this whole video. Most videos people are running around shouting acting crazy.Thank you
Glad you enjoyed!
THIS sounds ssooo harsh hh to me ---- but do you know wwwhhhyyyyyy ?????
I live on less than that in louisiana,Louisiana,, not the same lifestyle of course,, but I generally don't like getting out of the yard since It's more peaceful not being around people,, so house, truck, land is paid for,, no debt, cook at home ,, paradise to me
Heayis where the heart is ! But I'm sure you created it that way too. Give yourself a pat on the back, good job planning.
But, can you get a cook, maid and massage each day thrown in ? ๐ Oh, and switch Easy, if you don't like? Just kidding. ๐
Make sure you pay your property tax
Now this is the kind of life one should aim at especially in retirement.
Yes, if you don't smell the roses in retirement you never will.
I'm only 36 and ppl I talk to look at me like I'm crazy when I talk about wanting this lifestyle
@@VagabondAwake You are right.
Bobby is the epitome of down-to-earth cool! After living abroad for over 30 years, I've come across my fair share of expats with some wacky ideas about how to survive in foreign lands. They think it's all sunshine and rainbows, with roast chickens flying through the air and honey running through the streams! But Bobby? He's got his feet planted firmly on the ground, and his calm and confident demeanor is totally captivating. He's the real deal, and I can't get enough of his practical approach to life. ๐๐ผ๐
Thought it was supposed to be elephants, flying thru the air ? Maybe just in Thailand? ๐๐๐ฅณ
Crazy how affordable it is once you get away from the tourist traps.
I'd hate to share how much we are spending for our family of 5 for 7 days in Bali in June!
No doubt what Bobby lives on in a year
There are so many opportunities for a comfortable retirement once you leave the US. Low cost of living, excellent medical care for a reasonable cost and a relaxing lifestyle. My wife and I built a cottage-style house in Thailand for a fraction of the cost the same house in the US would be. $1,000 a month is about all we can spend for groceries, restaurants, utilities and diesel. Wonderful video. This fellow is the real deal.

Ah. So uplifting. Just been daydreaming through the last part of winter. Thanks to you both
Great video Dan, Bobby is an amazing traveler.
one of the smartest gentlemen that has passed through your channel so far, congratulations to all of you for staying in good physical condition!!๐ค๐ค๐ค
Well, he may be very smart and he may not be but we cannot really say for sure from the video. All we really know from the video - besides the fact that he cannot pronounce "miscellaneous" properly - is that he seems like a fairly nice guy who loves to travel and that he is pretty frugal. Well, actually maybe not so frugal because, even though his overall expenses are about the same as mine, he actually spends quite a bit more for food each month than I do here in Phuket, Thailand. Furthermore (and I hate to say this) he does not seem to know how to add, because the itemized expense list he showed adds up to a subtotal of $705 not $490. As for Bali, I have always loved it there myself but I do not like the fact that to retire there you are required to hire domestic help even if you do not need it. I like to do things myself and I do not want to be required to pay for services that I do not need. And of course, since I always need to live near the beach I could never find any place to rent that is even remotely as cheap as the place this guy is staying in.
Are you a subscriber of Vagabond awake?
I have rewatched your playa del carmen apartment video of his apartment maybe a dozen times since posted primarily due to his positivity and the simplicity of that lifestyle. Great video.
Loved your video. Truly inspirational. Inspired. Revolutionary.
Another great video. Thank you Dan.
This video got me missing Bali. Been there many, many times. Beautiful island in all ways.
Thanks Dan and Bobby (and Qiang) for this discussion, informative and lovely to see two gents just having a chat and clearly enjoying the company ๐. The area around Lovina is gorgeous donโt blame you for staying near there, the whole of Bali is beautiful really LOL.๐๐
Don't forget, it's not just visualizing, you want to experience the feelings associated with these visual manifestations. Both the emotional and the physical as though you were actually having the experience in the present moment. Then afterwards, demonstrating gratitude to the creator for the experience as though it has already manifested. Great video! I moved to Ecuador. But after watching this, I think I'm going to pack up and move to Bali.
So a video is changing your move how stupid can you be, let me say this, come to the Philippines rent a house for $100 dollars you get a beautiful young maid, you get all meals cooked, you get a message at will, get your feet washed, everywhere you go you have a pretty escort, do you believe this?????
All the senses. The sounds, smells, physically touching, seeing and oh course the tastes๐. Fake it till you make it, but Know it's coming into being. ๐
I wish you two had discussed visa options and how one stays so long in Indonesia

Following this subject!
@@VagabondAwake thank you for the updates, what about visa , how did Bobby get to stay 2 years on what visa?
You have to go in and out of the country every three months, the visa is hard in Indonesia. You need to be married there just to get a one year at a time visa.
Another great episode!!! Keep up the great content!!!
Can't understand why Bobby doesn't go back to the U.S. & buy an overpriced house in a retirement place with crazy high taxes & crazy high HOA fees( both rising constantly).

You can live a great life away from the west if you are prepared to become a little "local" and integrate a little with local people. That does not mean you need to become fully local, give up your home country ways, or change your personal values. I live in NE Thailand in a rural village; we have fiber internet (very fast), online shopping where you can buy anything and it turns up in a couple of days (or 5-14 days if ordered from China), we are about an hour from the local airport and can fly to Bangkok and then on to wherever we want if we want a break. Weather is wonderful, local family are great. Internet is 640 baht a month, water 300 baht, electricity 1000 baht, no rent as we built our own place 15 years back. Life is good! Not sure I could keep travelling like Dan and his partner, but respect their choice and enjoy their videos.
How about visa?
I am Ready to become more than a little Local, just the fact that they believe in KARMA. That's Good enough for me.

Hi Ty Kellerman,
Thanks for watching our video. Glad we could help. Just be aware, that everyone's costs will vary, often widely. You will have to come put your feet on the ground here and see what your cost of living estimate will be. All of us live different lives so what we would spend may have no relationship at all to what you will spend per month. Also, make sure you add anything you need in your estimate that is not specifically mentioned in our estimated expenses. And make sure to have significant emergency money set aside in case something happens. Here are some reports on these topics:

Such a chill well spoken gentleman, he is in the right place for his vibe, Bali has the most respectful people I have ever met in this world, even Java and the other islands are pretty chill but Bali is Bali!
Another great video! Couple of other items I am curious about are what is spent on health insurance and visas and what visa he has? I will be living in Bali 4-5 months year since I work in a business that is fun, I am still needed and can work remote quite a bit. Been a few times and love Bali. I was so happy to ss you do this video....Besides being relatively inexpensive, the sense of community is amazing. I already go to a Christian church there that is mostly Balinese and expats.....The great things is that all the different folks Hindu, Muslim, Buddhist and even a small Jewish community get along so well. Great festival life and as I write this I am missing it so badly....Hope I see you all soon....Looks like July now....
David, The way people coexist harmoniously seems awesome. There seems like a lot of good reasons to miss Bali, but that'd be a major one. Peace, ๐๐๐

Yep, exactly what I was thinking.
But the quality of foods there is terrible, in the Philippines the food is bad I occasionally contract diarrhea because of bad or outdated food they sell you, nothing goes to waste the old food is mixed with the fresh food. The USA Is better even though its expensive you're comparing a 1st world country to a 3rd world country where power outages are very common.

probably not home, but kos-kosan, only small room and bathroom, $600 usd is like 9 million rupiah, even as local my rent little is higher, my rent for 2 bed 2 bathroom house is $3898 for a year, or 60 million rupiah.

I was a Ski Instructor as a teenager and have worked in construction, hotel maintenance, before College then. law firms , medical research at a Med School , Banking , etc -- It is not worth the grind and Stress to keep this up . I was thinking Bali ,Mexico, I like the forest, beauty, Safety, peacefulness and affordability of Bali. I would expect if I had a Business that helped or connected w/ Locals -- that could be a Way to be welcomed and excepted like Bobby has done. Any Tips on how to get in w/ the Locals ? I would not expect to find a decent 2 bed place for less than 150. a month but it might be possible .
Great video thank you for making it, the only thing I wish is you would have shown what the gym looks like.
Amazing ! You are living my ultimate dream
I like this! Now I want to come to Bali! Please let me know how to find a cheap decent small place there to live. Cheers!๐ป๐ป
That is awesome. What a perfect place to retire. For me, I would not say retiring at 62 is early, retiring prior to age 62 is early. ๐
Kevin K, I agree wholeheartedly!
I liked him from Mexico... your first interview with him...
What a lovely guy
Great interview but would have liked a brief overview of the long term visa process that has enabled Bob to stay there.
Stay tuned.
@@VagabondAwake I'd like to know as well. Thanks Dan!! Great video.
Great video sounds like I need to move to Bali asap
That's amazing good for him and for you living this style of life enjoy my dream will happen in do time
I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD TO GO TO THE PHILLIPINES TO HAVE MY PASSPORT STAMPED EVERY 90 DAYS TO LIVE ON BALI YEARS AGO ? BALI IS BEAUTIFUL !
It depends upon the kind of visa you get: vagabondbuddha.com/retire-on-825-usd-month-in-bali-indonesia/
He is back ! I still remember on the first interview..you guys forget the add the visa expenses.
Looks like we did it again? I will do more on that ion another video. Thanks for noticing.

thank you for your videos
He got the unicorn apartment! That is so great!
Great video! I may actually consider Indnoesia. Are there any good sites or resources to start searching for apartments that are these prices before going to Indonesia?
Not that I know of. These are feet on the ground prices.
Every time I watch one of these videos ask myself what am I doing still considering continue to work part time. I could live anywhere but I prefer to live in a place like this with nice people great weather and no keeping up with the Joneses.
Dan can you talk a little bit more about Buddhism and meditation and routines for staying spiritually and mentally healthy while traveling?
Great idea. :-)
@@VagabondAwake That's a good topic. Do you go to temples in the area regularly? Looking forward to any insights here Dan :)
Thank you so much.
I'll make sure I say Hi because I'm coming, going to rent my home and along with SS should have a ball hopefully.
Dan, will be very interested in your retirement visa costing, esp the annual fee, whether the my pension would be taxed, whether health insurance is compulsory (eg over 75), and whether domestic help is compulsory. Thanks!
Thanks for te qquestions. Maybe I will interview a visa agent and ask her.
