Cockpit View: Madeira A321 Bad Weather Landing!

- Ride along in the jumpseat for a bad weather landing at Madeira's Funchal Airport (FNC/LPMA). We’re flying with Condor on flight DE1570 today. Runway 23 is in use and there are rain showers around the airport plus a low cloud layer close to minimums. We've got three perspectives to enjoy the landing from - one straight ahead showing the runway, one showing the Captain and his sidestick as he maneuvers the aircraft, and one showing the instruments. It's always fun landing at Madeira but it's especially interesting when the weather doesn't want to cooperate. Plus if you’re keen to watch the full taxi in to the gate, we’ve got that too.
Many thanks to / @aeronewsgermany for the use of his GoPro footage.

Thank you very much! First Officer on this Flight was Pascal Schmidt => His CZcams Channel AeroNews Germany is really worth to watch it! He covered this Flight there, too.

@@lechristoph1677 Ja.
Was this the first leg of @aeronewsgermany 's last flight on the A320?
Yes!
@@aireditionwill we get an full length video about the truly last flight?
Yes you will, not to worry!
Ja an alle deutschsprachigen hier!
He will switch to the a330 noe
Der fliegende Florist 👀
Der saß auf der anderen Seite des Cockpits.😃
@@NicolaW72 Weiß ich doch ;) Fliegen (wenn auch hier nur as PM) tut er ja trotzdem ^^
@@lennox_365 Ja.😀
I remember as an 11 year old boy, the flight crew let me sit in the cockpit for the landing and takeoff for a layover on a TAP Boeing 707. Etched in my memory forever.
When i was 3 years old the crew let me in a Cockpit of a Saab 2000, since then i´m really interested in airplaines.
Wonderful Video 🙋♂️👍🏻
Coming here from @aeronewsgermany . Really looking forward to the Video from the full rotation.
Awesome job, perfect landing.👍
Super landing. 👍 Congratulations pilots. 🌹
Gratuliere Pascal! 🙌
Jetzt trainiert er für den A330💪
Freue mich schon, wenn er sein erstes Video über den A330 hochlädt
@@Diego_Gerlach Freue mich auch! 🎉
@@Diego_Gerlach Ja.🤗
A good approach prepares for a good landing. Nice touch with the side stick, also great video!
Well done. Amazing landing. 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍
Nice job captain!👌🏻
Perfect landing sir ! 😊
Well done the flight crew.
❤ perfect
Excelente
Butter!
When does the full documentary launch?
Always disappointing when you get runway 23 at Madeira - 05 is much more exciting. Fortunately, I think either 8 or 9 of my 10 landings there have been 05 🙂. Seeing the right wing tip looking so close to the ocean whilst banking hard right, before the left wing tip is almost clipping the hillside on short 'final' never gets old.
It's true, and they switched back to 05 moments after we arrived!!
@Flightradar24DotCom Urghhh! Last month we landed on 05 but took off during a ten minute period when they suddenly switched to 23. All the more galling because we were all set to wave and shine torches at Pedro during taxi, who was streaming at the time (and we'd spent the weekend with)!
Relaxed pilot, chewing gum landing a airliner in bad weather at a challenging airport!
Many pilots chew gum to help with equalization
Wer kommt von Pascal?
Ich🤚
Freue mich schon, wenn er sein erstes Video vom A330 hochlädt
^^
Ich!!!
Ja moin 🖖
He can land a plane and chew gum at the same time!
It's called multitasking 😉
Chewing gum keeps you focused actually.
Textbook!
Thats why they make the big $$$
Is this airport "captain-only" landing?
Yes
Yes, with minimum experience and special training requirements
Yea
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Manoose😂😂😂
how is that a bad weather? 15kt wind 30* off, especially coming from the sea side, VMC well above minimums -> nearly perfect conditions
Bad Visuable conditions, the mimimum cloud level for a visual approach at madeiras Runway 23 ist about 1000ft, the cloudlevel on that flight was just a few meters above that. Theres no ILS System at Madeira, so thay need to fly by hand all the time, which is a chellenge because of the clauds and terrain.
@@Bluejay_96 there's RNP and VOR so not that bad. Yes, the final section of the approach is visual and minima are high but you still can fly on A/P till minima - same as for all approaches (they disconnected earlier but well in VMC). They had RWY in sight for the whole visual section of the approach (way before minima) even though that is NOT required and the wind limit in this sector is actually the highest for the whole approach. I'm not saying this approach is easy. It's just that the weather conditions were not bad. They'd still safely land it in way worse weather.
@@migupl well you are wrong, the co-pilot has a youtube channel and he literally said they had bad weather and especially the cloud layer was just barely inside tolerances.
@@benni1951for info: co-pilot's channel is aeronewsgermany

Idk. I would think that you'd need to be quite intelligent to fly an aircraft like that. 😜
Better not chewing that gum during the landing cap
Much easier with a chewing gum. 🤦🏻♂️
