@@trevorstuart8006 People underrate him because he doesn't look good on the eye and breathes through his mouth, but he's pretty damn effective. He's also a guy whose level goes up fighting better opposition, he hasn't had to show his best so far in the UFC. I think he'll be a future champ.
@@reiner164 At some point Du Plessis' style will catch up to him. Its inevitable, you can only get away not looking good in wins for so long. He might beat someone like Brunson or Cannonier but he won't beat an Adesanya or a Whittaker

@@reiner164 Yes he can, and he probably will. Izzy might have an overly flamboyant (and feminine taste) in fashion, but it takes nothing away from his credibility as a fighter.
The thing about Till: he gave good fighters a hard fight but typically lost. If you keep losing at that level, you will have a lesser chance each time. The damage accumulates. You have to take hundreds of punches to get back into that position.
Although, he's not old, he's kinda old in fighting days
How Bisping ended up becoming champion despite having lots of similarities to Till: a bit of luck vs Silva and shocking upset vs Rockhold. He was also mentally tough as nails. USADA also helped. Some of the killers suddenly became average...I wonder why...
Bisping also never got injured to the extent that Till did. Yes I know about the eye, but the eye injury Bisping had cannot be compared to the constant knee injuries Till has suffered. Knee injuries can be career-enders, and in the case of Till his knees are completely shot and gone which explains why his TDD is so poor and why he's not as fast and explosive anymore.
Bisping with some intuition was able to compensate for the injured eye, and he was never inactive. He always fought multiple times a year and each time he came back he was ever so slightly better as a fighter. Till has been inactive fighting only once a year since 2019 and hasn't shown any signs of improvement since 2017, if anything he's regressed.

@@Abd-rc7st Bisping wasn't blind in one eye, his vision was impaired yes but he could still see out of it somewhat. You can also fight with one fully functioning eye, Bisping used intuition after all to 'cheat' medical exams and hide his lesser functioning eye in fights themselves to the point where you wouldn't even realise it. You can't fight when both your knees are destroyed.

I feel like Darren's issues are more mental than anything at this point. His takedown defence has degraded; his hips used to be respectable. Dunno if it's under-confidence, or over-confidence in trying to snipe when more volume would serve him well, especially last night.

It probably doesn't help that he has been plagued with injuries and last night he allegedly was saying he think he tore his ACL in the first round. That'll ruin your takedown defense for sure. But I also agree it's probably mental at this point, ever since that Masvidal KO he's been a lot more timid with his striking and much more cautious to move in.

Yes, not cool at all. Du Plessis is unbeaten in the UFC, is now a top 10 contender and has finished fights on the feet and on the floor. He's tough as nails, and incredibly strong. Till just wasn't in his league, and it would be nice if people could acknowledge that.

Driccus did not have a great performance, he looks like he has a LONG way to go if he ever wants to become an elite Middleweight. Don't say something like 'Darren lost to a beast/killer' because that's sugarcoating what was otherwise an utterly abysmal performance by Darren Till, and a mediocre performance by Du Plessis. Darren Till is a washed up hype-job, he is done, he is finished. Du Plessis doesn't get much respect or credit from me, he needs to do better in his next fight.

I had the pleasure of meeting DDP back home in SA. He came to the bar that my best friend was the manager of. We sat with him and his mates all night getting sloshed. He’s a top bloke, is exactly how he is in his press conferences, such a genuine bloke, proud to call him my countryman. Getting disrespect from Brian here, he even said he took it down a notch after round 1. He’ll be a top fighter, watch.
Just because he’s a nice bloke doesn’t mean he’s going to be a top fighter. He didn’t purposely take it down a notch after round 1, he was visibly tired after the first round and his punches looked slow and heavy. He gets beaten by any of the top 5

From the second Till came out, I had a feeling it wouldn't go his way, he walked out so quickly that it seemed like he was more nervous than confident, whereas Du Plessis seemed very self-assured without going over the top. If Du Plessis hadn't played it safe and tried to conserve himself for Round 2 and 3, I don't even think the fight would've gone past the first round (Did anyone else think something was off with Du Plessis' balance? He's a 2nd degree black belt in kickboxing and yet, every time he threw a kick it looked like he was gonna wobble over)
He is ALWAYS nervous he fights scared these days he should be cut from the UFC.

I've never rated till, only one dominated fight was against a smaller older cowboy. The rest were mah, even fighting the fighters out of the top 20 he struggled.
You sleeping on Du Plessis. Wrestling might not look “special” but he is a class Judoka and submission specialist. That shoulder dump in the last round took Till’s soul. Darren will rise but they fed Him to a lion here.

Darren will never rise again, his downfall will continue, the losses will keep piling up until his contract expires and the UFC has no other option but to release him at which point Darren will have accumulated an awful losing streak. Driccus had a less than impressive performance against a washed up Darren Till.

Till isn’t made for middleweight. He needs to go back down to welterweight, it’ll be hard to make weight but with a proper diet and no messing around or blowing up between fights it’s achievable. Sad to see him get beat like this

Leon’s head kick was unbelievable
Gutted for Darren. He didn't look himself; takedown defence seemed nonexistent, as well; and he took so much damage in the first round, which may have affected him throughout the rest of the fight. Even his striking wasn't that sharp, although his fear of the takedown may have impacted his flow. He also could have finished this fight in the second round, as Du Plessis looked tired. It seemed like a lack of urgency from Darren. It's not looking good for him, but he should just take a break, reassess, and the obvious thing would be to seriously work on his takedown defence and wrestling.
How doesn't he see the takedowns that come from the other side of the cage🤦♂️
@Andy Dewar I see your point, but I meant he didn't quite seem mentally in the fight; like there was a lack of urgency, and he seemed hesitant; although it might have been Du Plessis' takedowns playing a part; plus the many shots to the head in the first round. I believe Darren might have also injured his knee.
@Barry Myconqinue Yeah, Darren just couldn't anticipate the takedowns, even when they were easily telegraphable; it didn't seem like there was much of a strategy to prevent the takedowns, either. Du Plessis was taking him down with ease. He maybe could have kept Du Plessis at a distance and chopped down his legs, but even that's a risky game. He's likely always gonna struggle with wrestlers until he works on his takedown defence.

The reason everybody underestimates Dricus is the same reason Till lost. Du Plessis is extremely physically strong and tough while Till looks out of shape and weak for the division. And yes Dricus Du Plessis juices,there is no way you have that body as an MMA fighter without juice, you do too much cardio to keep that kind of muscle mass naturally at that weight class.

Yeah you’ve got a really good point there Geordie when all said and done at the end of the day if we’re keeping it 100 and being completely truthful about the events that took place and taking all things into consideration and having a step back and looking at things objectively through unbiased eyes after taking the time to weigh things up and I think we all come to the same conclusion that Edwards kick was one of the best of all time.

Till said after the fight to Bruce Buffer that he had a torn ACL. Not sure if he had the injury already or if it happened during the fight, but it would explain why Darren didn’t really throw too many kicks and also had the worst take down defence he’s ever shown in his career.
Every time Duplesis even looked at a single leg Tills ass was on the mat.
And all night the kick to the power kick body and head was wide open on duplesis with then being opposite stance fighters. If you watch back the Whitaker and Womderboy fights Till was throwing that kick all night but he didn’t throw any at the weekend.
Really feel for Till, glad Dana didn’t bury him at the press conference, most guys would be cut now

It's bad for Darren, but this coverage was way over the top. That was quality opposition he was in there with, and he had moments plus was clearly injured. Darren needs to live the life away from camp but maybe he's too comfortable now. Good guy, hope he figures it out.

Tbh, worst thing about the result I think is how till will take it. Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t perfect, especially defending takedowns, but he was striking well, just not following up with them after near most shots we’re doing damage. It’s definitely a positive from his last fight, I just think he needs activity to shake off the weird nerves and lack of belief. Hopefully he’s not taking his break for too long.
