You have a beautiful garden. I’m in Southern California but the heat hasn’t set in yet. Your carrots look great. I can’t grow enough to get to the table. I eat them while I’m gardening. Someday I’ll crack the code to get a bigger harvest. 😊
That’s a great idea to rinse off your harvest on top of the mulch so then the soil beneath it stays moist!

I enjoyed watching this video. It kept me motivated and looking forward to my harvest time. Currently waiting another 30 days for my potatoes, I have some peppermint, beets, parsley, cilantro, and in the works I have some sweetcorn, cabbage, spinach, cucumbers, beets, and jalapeños. Every day that I see growth I become more into and appreciative each time we eat from our garden. Great video thank you for sharing.

I’m in zone 7a I’m harvesting lettuce and asparagus. Love you video.
I’ve been harvesting carrots since last week to share with friends and neighbors. Still have a few hundred in the ground. No signs of bolting.
Onions are bulbing with the largest about 3.5 ins.
Shallots and garlic are doing extremely well and were so easy to grow.
Spring onions are bolting so I’ll have a crop next year.
Small tomatoes are forming.
A few buds on jalapeño. Other hot peppers are not thriving yet. Cilantro seeds actually sprouting and growing!
So sorry spring growing in AZ will be ending soon.

Wow, great video, congrats on such success! Two questions, can we 9b folks continue to plant carrots throughout the year? And could u share some recipes like esp what to do with fennel and passion fruit? Oh, and what to do with all those carrots? Thanks!!
Depends on where in 9b you are. Here in the low desert it gets too hot for carrots and our planting window is over until fall. There are some delicious salads we like to use fennel in. Passion fruit we eat fresh. Luckily carrots store well in the fridge and we will use them for the next several months.
Love your videos! I planted onion sets this year and almost everyone of them bolted. I pulled them all up a few days ago, then yesterday I cut them all up and put them in my freeze dryer. I was sad that I couldn't use them in storage, but with freeze drying them they will still be put to good use. I do have some red onions that I started from seed that I can store for winter use.

Love the ranunculous however I pull out the plant at the end of the season and save the corms I found that leaving them on the ground they may get buried too deep if planted on top of the and they might not come back

Hi Angela! I'm so glad I found your channel! I also live in Mesa, but I'm in Zone 10a, so I'm excited to learn more about gardening this side of the desert. 😊🌵☀
I'm in Houston Texas. I got my very first tomato of the season March 16; it was way early but now I'm getting significant ripening on my earliest cherry tomatoes and, weirdly enough, one of my small slicers that decided it wanted to show off so I'm harvesting those too. My basil is going nuts, all the other tomatoes getting huge and putting tons of on fruit, peppers at least putting on some fruit (I have trouble with peppers but am doing far better than last year), sweet potatoes trying to eat the 9' trellis I built for them, and my parsley is amazingly hanging on too. The bush beans have tons of flowers; the pole beans are slower but are at least growing. I have harvested exactly two blackberries, and they were delicious. I had a bunch of swallowtail caterpillars that ate all my dill, so I moved some parsley over to give them more food. My chayote squash is still alive and has grown a good 6' along the trellis; no flowers yet but that's not unexpected I think. Okra is inside growing; I will transplant it out as soon as I free up some room. I'm also trying culantro as a warm weather substitute for cilantro; I'm also growing papalo for the same reason. Not sure I'm a fan of its flavor. I plan to succession plant sweet potatoes over the next few months, and will be planting asparagus peas and rat's tailed radishes once I clear out my garlic and onions (no room until they are gone!).
I really wanted more of a spring harvest of things like parsnips and turnips; mine didn't do well and I figured we just got too warm too fast, but it's slightly cooler here than in your area, so apparently that wasn't it. HMM. I will do more research and will try again next spring; I'm already planning to keep them under shade cloth which I did not think to do this year.
Loved hearing about all you are doing, thanks for sharing. Each year is so different. I've tried chayote 3 times without success. Best of luck to you in the new season!
We are also in Mesa. Transitioned from the fall/winter garden to spring/ summer. So, in-between now and watching plants grow. How did your dwarf tomatoes do? We have several blooming now. They sure are a sturdy plant.
My dwarf tomatoes did not do well. I"m not sure why, but they struggled. I may have to try again!
I'm in zone 9b SW Florida. it's April 21st and I'm harvesting papayas, bananas, blueberries, peppers, onions, tomatoes, broccoli (my broccoli plant is still giving me broccoli so why not right?) Celery, French sorrel, leaf lettuce, spinach greens and lots of herbs. I just planted water melon, cantatope, and Florida cranberries Jamaican sorrel and yard long beans. I'm harvesting something from my garden every day. I'm blessed to live in an area where I can grow year-round. I'm looking forward to havesting, egg plant, yellow squash, and pineapples in just a few months. Your garden is fantastic.

Thank you, Angela, for all the garden educational videos you shared with us. So great to learn on how to grow a successful garden. I learned on how to plant a square foot growing in raised beds. Loving it! I have celery, garlic, bush beans, squash and herbs growing in each of those squares. Square foot in raised beds helped organized the plants I want to grow. Your different trellises inspired me. So, my husband made some and we purchased some. They are such a great addition to our garden with so many veggies that can be grown vertically on trellises. 😀❤

I'm on the other side of the world in Western Australia but in a very similar climate as you Angela. I'm still harvesting a few summer crops (sweet potatoes, okra, luffa, peppers, chillies) and my winter veg are well underway with lots of brassicas, spinach, silverbeet/chard, garlic, lettuce, carrots, parsnips, spring onions and sugar snap peas. I love growing sweet peas in my veg garden also! Great video, thanks for sharing Angela.

I’ve had a fun year! Many poppies, tulips, ranunculus, marigolds so much more from seeds! My installing beds but have used pots. I have someone coming to help pull gravel & plastic liner from previous owners. I am excited for a permaculture project!! Strawberries & raspberries gave many in pots though!

I’m growing celery, small potatoes, tomatoes, Anaheim peppers, sage, African basil (couldn’t find any Thai basil this year) and cucumbers. Looking forward to seeing how they do.

The carrots store very well in the fridge -as do a lot of the other root crops. Congrats on all you are growing.

I'm so jealous. It's still only about 10C (50F) here in Holland (zone 8b), with only the peas and garlic doing well so far. We've also had the wettest winter in recorded history which meant the land was basically a swamp until just a couple weeks ago.
Hope things dry out for you and you have a successful season.
It has been an amazing spring in Palm desert area! I have aphids that suck on my zucchini flowers and can’t spray with water because they come right back! Ugh!! Going to try captain jack as sometimes neem oil burns my leaves. Any luck with this? Anyone else have flower destroyers?

Love the variety you've planted! I'm a novice gardener trying square foot for the second year. Have you noticed increased bird presence? Every day or so I find holes where the birds have pushed back the mulch. (Maybe to get at the bugs??) Went on a trip to see the Solar Eclipse and came back to a very pitted garden. (Most of the newly planted items were destroyed.) I noticed that either there isn't a lot of mulch in your beds (or the mulch is dark colored)? Have you had to take steps to deter the birds from your beds??
I put a pretty thick layer of wood chip mulch on most beds. Birds will dig in the beds if I have open soil, so keeping it mulched does help.
My chomile was decimated by powdery mildew. Any tips?
Good airflow and spacing can help. Plant in a different spot next year. My garden seems to have a lot of powdery mildew this spring too. growinginthegarden.com/how-to-prevent-and-treat-powdery-mildew/
Do you not have issues with bramuda grass trying to take over?
In the areas of my yard that were bermuda I put weed cloth and have put very thick layers of wood chips for the past few years. This has seemed to help.
Jealous, I am. Carrots you have. Have not been able to tap the carrot spirit yet here in Portland.

you have a very lush & beautiful garden! question here: what do you do when the soil in your raised beds recedes but you have thriving happy plants in the beds? i haven't heard many gardeners discuss this. would love your input. i currently have this situation. thank you!
I do the best I can and add compost and raised bed mix in the areas that need it. I can try to show this in an upcoming video.

Depends on how you are supporting them. If there is room for a lot of stems that can shade the plant a bit. I often trellis them in a way that I need to prune to a single leader. I don't think there is a wrong way to do it. Experiment and see what works best for you.

I have some Florence Fennel growing in 5 gallon pot. Planted for the SwallowTails. What should I do with it this summer - shade? BTW, I saw you at the Monarch Migration class! Didn't get a chance to say hello before you left.
Wasn't that a great class? Find a shady spot - let it go as long as it can. Hope you get some swallowtails - I keep checking mine, but nothing yet.
How often do you fertilize the flowers and veggies?
I amend with compost and worm castings when I plant and the beds all have vermicomposting bins in them.

The dates would be similar but you may have more options. If you use it pay attention to the transition months of Feb and March and again in the fall and use the temperature guidelines on the calendar instead.

Hi Angela! I’m also a fellow Mesa area gardener. I have trouble with my tomato plant leaves curling and getting crispy no matter how much water they get. They are still producing but they just look so sad. Any recommendations?
My friend in Sun City is also having that problem, so I’m wondering too.
Tomatoes are susceptible to a lot of diseases. If they are ones you overwintered you may want to plant new ones with the Monsoons this summer in a different location. Removed damaged leaves and continue to harvest.

How will you store the carrots?
I store them in ziplock bags in the fridge and they last for months. There are so many this year I may also freeze dry or freeze some.

Why do some sites say phoenix area is 10a now and no longer 9b?
There was a new zone hardiness map and some zones changed.
For your peppers is it too late to split the plant if it’s been in ground for a month?
Once it gets hot that can be stressful for plants and it can be tough for them to get established. If temps are mild they should survive it ok.
When did you sow those carrots?
And how much water does the system deliver each time?
In the fall. It waters pretty quickly, not sure exactly of the output.
