While I love YNAB, unfortunately, it can be pretty confusing. A lot of people will sign up only to get quickly frustrated and then give up never to return. I admit, YNAB definitely has a bit of a learning curve at first. But that's what this video is for.
I'm going to walk you through everything you need to know about 'You Need A Budget'.
    In this video I'll cover:
0:45 - Things you must understand before starting
1:42 - Start your new budget
    1:48 - Setup your accounts
4:06 - Setup your budget categories
14:34 - Setting goals for your budget
17:21 - Actually budgeting your money
20:53 - How credit cards work in YNAB
24:00 - How to record transactions
27:22 - How to deal with overspending
27:52 - Explaining YNAB budget colors
30:58 - Using YNAB to stop living paycheck to paycheck
33:06 - Aging your money in YNAB
This tutorial truly is everything you need to know. I hope you learn something and be sure to leave a comment with any questions you have.

The best video I've watched so far, and this right here is definitely an 'a-ha' deal for me. I have a similar system set up in Excel (which I love) but I budge for the month and long term and, well, if a formula is off, or I mistakenly delete info in a cell, it's a nightmare. YNAB is mine, on steroids. And only budgeting for my current funds. The goal settings allow the forecasting, and aging, to happen. That's a very cool thing.

This is by far the best "how to" YNAB video I've seen on how to get started with YNAB (for beginners) up to and including the videos on YNAB itself. Honestly, I have been with YNAB for 1 year and have not gotten as far as I now have watching this video. I still have questions, in particular about CCs and how to manually enter data. But I sincerely thank you, Nick, for your clear explanation. Fortunately I can pause the video as I couldn't keep up, but ok folks, use pause.

This was awesome, Nick! The most helpful was that you walked me through how to set it up step by step. I'm a complete beginner. What you showed me (once I got up the nerve to watch the whole thing, stopping every few seconds to put your advice into practice) was the whole thing, whereas the various quick start guides that YNAB provided didn't help me understand WHY I was doing this that and the other. Oddly enough, perhaps the most helpful of all was right at the beginning where you renamed the categories. This allowed me to begin by using the categories I've always used (on my Excel spreadsheet) and facing the reality that I hadn't thought them all the way through. I have a long way to go before I really integrate YNAB into my life-style - today is Day 1 - but I finally feel it will happen. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for the care and thought you put into producing this stupendous video.

Thanks Nick! This video is like the "missing manual" to YNAB. The renaming of categories you present is more intuitive than the default settings when YNAB is first started. Your method of setting up goals for every spending category is referred to as an optional "budget template" by YNAB which in my opinion should be their default recommendation.
