  • Our travels into Nevada led us to Ely so that we could visit the historic Nevada Northern Railway! This rail yard and railway is a hidden gem and one that was amazingly saved and preserved so that they could carry on this town's industrial heritage and share it with the rest of the world. They have done such an amazing job at restoring much of the trains, steam locomotives, buildings and equipment to keep this an operating railway providing train rides and tours for all visitors. We enjoyed our train ride being pulled by Engine No. 93 that led us on a 90 minute ride into the mountains and learning about the areas mining history. We really enjoyed our visit to the railway and got some great video to share of our private tour of the Engine House and RIP buildings, so check out those videos as well. #abomadventures #train #steamlocomotive #nevadanorthernrailway

Adam… this one hit a special place with me… I grew up in Ely and was a miners son during the heyday of the Ruth Mining operation. As a boy the train ran twice a day 7:00 am and 3:00 pm transporting copper ore from the Ruth pit to the McGill Smelter where my grandfather was a welder.
This community lived and breathed daily hard work. Hence to this day you get to know, see, smell and touch what has really made this out of the way quiet town service.
I moved away shortly after high school to attend college but still have Family and Childhood friends living in Ely. My Father was the trains Santa Clause for many many years. Until his passing about 9 years ago.
My family along with 10,000 of others lived and thrived because of this railroad.
Thanks for coming and enjoying this hidden gem

Abby I am also a train lover and share your happy dance. Thank you both for the adventure filming you do. At 67 years I don't travel a lot anymore so seeing America through your lenses means a lot to us viewers more than you know. You have created one professional adventure channel. I started out watching Adam on his main channel, and then found out Adam can cook.... Who knew ?
That brought me here to the adventures. Next time you two come up to the great white north of Michigan we need to do some "" grillin & chillin'" Stay safe Happy Anniversary !!

As you probably have already found out, Kennecott Copper owned the railroad to haul copper ore to the smelter and then the copper north to the UP RR. Kennecott just gave the whole railroad (outside of the mine) to the group to save because it would cost them less than scrapping it. Kennecott just closed and locked the doors leaving everything including all of the complete records of the railroad from the beginning.
I am glad Abbey got a Dirt the Cat stuffed animal. He was as famous as the railroad.
I have one of those velocipedes, though not restored(yet). And a handcar.

Very cool place. I can’t believe you didn’t do “engineer for a day”. My wife gave me that as an anniversary gift 4 years ago. You get to operate the locomotive on the same route you rode. Unfortunately, with no train behind it, you never get more than 2 notches out on the throttle!
