  • We visited the historic Ward Charcoal Ovens State Park while camping nearby in Cave Lake SP. Very interesting history on these ovens which I will highlight in the video. Very cool place to see while traveling along Hwy 50 in Nevada, and they even have a really nice looking campground! #abomadventures #wardcharcoalovens #nevada

Amazing. Just think how blessed this place could have been if they had built a church... It's very interesting that the visitor sign felt need to punctuate that fact for everyone to see. What an interesting place

As a fellow bbq enthusiast, machinists (CNC) by trade, and a aspiring explorer- I am really enjoying your videos and have added the charcoal ovens as a must see destination

If you guys love mining, you really need to spend some time in Michigan’s upper peninsula, especially the Keweenaw. There are multiple mines you can tour and see ruins and lots of history on display all over.

I've visited charcoal ovens in Colorado and Montana. They are cool and they definitely had a short life.

The stamp most likely wasn't stolen. I talked to a relative who worked that area (well, he did dozens of parks through his 40 years as a park ranger). He said they generally do not put the stamps out during 'off season', or 'low traffic' times. The reason is during the cold months, the ink tends to freeze and the stamps get brittle and deteriorate. The same thing happens in the summer...the ink dries out, and the stamps get weather checked. He said in all his years, he never once found a "pay box" stamp stolen. Found many that the ink pads were totally dried up or frozen, found stamps totally deteriorated due to weather, but again, never stolen.

I'm sorry you're not going to Great Basin National Park, you were so close. Enjoy your journey!

Fascinating place and history there. I liked the musical interludes too. Good choice.
Edit: I just checked the description and I see the song is called "Alone". Yeah, you definitely nailed that one. 👍
That road down into the valley was straight, VERY straight, painfully straight across the valley floor. You kept driving and the visible end of the road didn't seem to be getting closer. But I suppose that's the joys of driving on ancient seabeds. I live in north Georgia and we don't get roads like that.

That’s one of the interesting things of the video and why I left that part in. You don’t get views like that in Florida 😎

Similar process with the way coke was made by cooking the coal in coke ovens for the steel Mills back in the day.

I love the jacket that Abby just bought. I live up North in Chicago and I have no idea how many of those wonderful hooded flannel shirt jackets I have. I'm sure there will be some chilly evenings in Florida where that jacket will come in handy for sitting outside and enjoying nature.

There is so much hidden stuff to see in that area. I hope you stayed at spring valley state park, Eagle valley." I was at Bristol wells last weekend exploring. I would have geeked out if I seen the Abom adventure wagon on the 93.

I was wondering when you drove up what on earth were they thinking building charcoal ovens where there are no trees. They must have wanted it bad!!
