Just one advice when it comes to this drone. When used in saltwater, always put it in a tub with freshwater and run the thrusters for a few minutes to drive all the salt out from the bearings. If you just wash it off with a hose like the manual says, the thrusters will still be filled with saltwater, and they will eventually seize up.
Good idea about running it in a fresh water tub. Good thinking.

Saltwater pool
The WW2 aircraft dumps off the coast would be really interesting.
There is so much cool stuff around to explore in the Pacific and much of it isn't that deep either.
@@DangarMarine I guess depth is it's main (if only) limitation due to well... depth and available light in deep water
Japanese mini subs
i work on oil rigs and always like to hang out in the ROV shack and watch them flying, testing and repairing. Now I can play with my own!.
Great video as always
Working oil rigs must have some super interesting moments.
Been waiting all week! You the man Stu
Wow, very impressive. I don't need one at all but after watching that - I want one...
That is awesome!!! Thinking about all the applications for something like that. Would be great for doing visual hull inspections, seeing what's tangled in your prop and shaft. Dive boats could use one for keeping an eye on group dives. Handy little devices!
All great ideas!!
Definitely lots of uses it could be put too for sure. I'll be keeping an eye on my anodes!
Buccaneer Stu. In search of Spanish Doubloons! Ok I'm now officially jealous of your lifestyle. You've earned it. Well done.
In search of Spanish Doubloons but likely to find empty beer bottles. ;)
Excellent maiden voyage for the Gladius!
I love that the start up tone is like an aero model (plane/quadcopter/drone) electronic speed controller.
Stu, that is some of the coolest shit ever. You have gone from fixing outdated outboards to bleeding edge technology. Fair fucking play mate. Well done.
Thanks Brian!
I'm impressed! Educational as well as I have no idea as to how all of this stuff works. Chasing Innovation has done a nice job and good on them for providing this to ya.
What an incredibly brilliant piece of kit! Wish these had been around when I was diving... Great video too!
I can hardly wait for you to finish up the boat and start on your new endeavor. Thanks for taking us with you.
Thanks mate, me either!
As a viewer I want to say thank you to Chasing for the ROV.
Incredible view/recording and stabilization quality! I know you had to be pleasantly surprised!
Oh my goodness! When you start exploring with that I will literally be standing by awaiting every video. So exciting.
I can't wait to get into this phase of the project in earnest. It's going to be quite the adventure!
look forward to these videos all week thanks for the hard work
You're welcome mate. :)
I will watch underwater drone camera stuff all day and all night. Thanks stu
Wow, that was really neat. Now... I want a Gladius mini for myself! Great video Stu!
Excellent, you are going to thoroughly enjoy using this SUV, looking forward to seeing those vids. after all your hard work it will be good to see you getting a buzz from what your doing, all the best.
Thanks mate, I'm really looking forward to getting into using the boat once it is back in the water. :)
I thought at first,,,,Big Boys Toys,,,, But then I understood why,,,with the diving and all. As always,,,really enjoyed that!
That is like the coolest thing ever!
Looks absolutely amazeballs!
Stu that is bloody outstanding footage from the ROV. What a cool toy AND incredibly useful tool for someone in your industry.
The camera is amazingly clear for sure. I can't wait to put it to real use rather than just a test.
This is something I wanted to do once we move to North Carolina coast. Love it
Dangar Remote Underwater Nautical Knowledge Testing And Navigation Kindergarten, haha how long did it take to come up with that? Great work as always, thanks for sharing your experience with us, and looking forward to the next video.
@Tim - You stole my comment. I was LMFAO when he said it. Had to pause the video.
Sometimes I just can't sleep at night. ;)
flick22601 Same here! Burst out laughing 😂 Such nautical creativity. Just love it. 🤩
Love it!
Also the acronym is excellent
Ace video Stu.......as always.....humble.....entertaining....and chock full of facts........just forwarded the link to millions....possibly trillions of fellow fishermen/engineers/yachties/Dronies/others with RC hobbies.....thanks for a really thoughtful review of this cutting edge technology.......Respect from a Steel Yacht owner....Engineering teacher......freezing in Melbourne town
Thanks mate, I appreciate you sharing the link. :)
Great piece of kit that Stu. Being able to inspect hulls without getting wet is going to be an earner
Nice bit of equipment there mate. It looks like a lot of fun times ahead. Best dry suit money can buy lol. I can’t wait for the first salvage vid
You know how to nail an unboxing video. Looks like hours of entertainment!
You can't complain about the ROV, I can tell you're going to have some fun with this!!
What a great video! I love that thing.
Wow the Gadius mini looks like a great tool for boat inspections in low currents, reasonable price too. Looking forward to more Stuventures, Jeff in LA USA
What an awesome bit of kit.
Pretty cool I never knew these even existed, will definitely recommend Gladius to people I know. Thanks for showcasing this.
Thanks mate, it was a pretty cool bit of kit to play with.
Awesome! I'll check that out my self. I like it.
That's impressive, easy to control, the pictures are crisp
Im genuinely impressed! More than a toy!
That is a cool rov. I really like the feature that it handles, automatically, the vertical and lateral stability when submerged. It seems to have only a short learning curve which makes it more enjoyable for a novice to explore the underwater terrain.
Brilliant 👍. Hope to see you soon
brilliant bit of kit and great video.cheers.
Thanks Alan!
That thing is bloody impressive 👍
Another great vid....ty Stu :-)
Looks like that is going to be a great tool for the underwater searching for sure!
Wow Stu, what a great bit of kit, it would have come in very handy 40 years ago when I was doing a lot of diving myself, lol, thanks for another great video buddy. Cheers
Diving must have been quite the adventure in the 60s. :)
@@DangarMarine well 70s & 80s, lol great times !
Going to be a great addition to your future videos.
Absolutely fantastic quality video. I can see a lot of work with that ROV around Marina's looking for dropped keys and wallets. Also quick inspections of hulls after contact with debris or bottom.
For sure, it's definitely going to get a workout looking for things!
Wow, so many spots I could probe.
Awesome Tool, great review DM.
I bet Your quietly, whistling, singing Sinatra, "It's up to You, New Yoik, New Yoik?"
I can't perfect the accent quite that well though. ;)
The Gladius will be great for hull and propeller inspections!
For sure, definitely for anodes.
That ROV is very cool. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome James. :)
Great little drone. excellent video
Thanks mate, glad you liked it. :)
What an amazing device
It is pretty cool. :)
Now that's a great little tool to have stu 👍
How bloody cool is that thing 👍👍👍
I've also got a Tablet that is just gathering dust. I'm in QLD, it's an Android with a Sim card tray and GPS. It's yours if you want it.
Thanks mate, that's very kind of you. I'll let you know how I get one. Really appreciate the offer! :)
If ol stu doesnt take it, i will!
man! that is some cool stuff! Dangar Remote Underwater Nautical Knowledge Testing and Navigation Kindergarten !! LOVE IT! beautiful scenery under the sea i must add. That gizmo will come in handy for your future plans, not to mention inspection of a hull while at sea! This is gonna be cool and fun!
Thanks for sharing
What a great piece of kit ! Want one .
Great kit Stu, I bet you will be upgrading soon to their Mariana Trench extension cable set! Ha. Great content thank you. Cheers from the UK.
Yes, I was looking at some of those deeper parts of the ocean and they are a smidge over 100m deep. I was surprised. ;)
Thanks for the video.
Cool new toy Stu...very jealous!
That thing is awesome!
Now I get what you were referring to last night in Pasadena. I guess I missed this vid. Great to have met you mate. Hope to see you one day on Dangar island.
Thanks Dan, great to meet you too. You are always welcome on the island. :)
what a great under water drone system. That will be fun to use for sure.
I remember catching a lot of Leather Jacket right near where you were testing out at Lion Island. It looks like a awesome aid to helping locate fish to catch.
Looking forward to the NYC deets. Travel safe Stu!
Will keep you all posted!
Next time, unreel the control cable and remove all the twist from it .. to prevent it from looping like it did .. and then attach it to the ROV.
ALSO, use some saltwater grease on that O-ring to help preserve it and maintain that watertight seal.
Nice little toy, that! Well done!
Wow, your water is much clearer than it appears in your previous videos.
Yes, that is because we headed out towards the ocean away from the river water.
The Sailing Soulianis incurred quite an expense to lift their sailboat from the water to determine a simple problem this Gladius could have identified at a fraction of the cost. Seems like the potential for this device is endless
waketheoblivious I’m waiting for Gone with the Wynn’s to get one, they love their aerial drone
I definitely think it will be a good thing to keep on board at all times. If you can't pull your boat out on a trailer easily it will be great for inspecting props, anodes, leaks etc.
That is awesome!!!
Love the picture in picture
That is a seriously cool little machine.
Thanks mate, I think it's going to be super useful for our on water adventures once the trawler is launched.
That is a very impressive bit of kit, any boat owner could find a use for, I definitely could.
I definitely think they are a handy bit of kit for the owner of a boat that is too large to take out of the water easily.
I love this drone. I wish I could afford one. I am a BIG FAN of RC craft.
Cool device, works really well.
That ROV is the bomb. !!!!
Wow, nice piece of kit
That is a fantastic drone...love the auto-hover mode!
Dangar Remote Underwater Nautical Knowledge Testing And Navigation Kindergarten :)
I can't wait until you get your trawler in the water and start doing underwater videos. I love that sort of thing. I think your videos are definitely going to take a quantum leap forward for you. Both thumbs up!
Thanks Perry, I can't wait to get the adventures started either. :)
Pretty cool little thing.
Holy crap, what a cool gadget!
That is pretty dang cool.
Very James Bond! :) bloody brilliant, I want one!
It should only really be operated in a dinner suit. ;)
Very cool.
Cool toys!
"Dangar Remove Underwater Nautical Knowledge Testing And Navigation Kindergarten."
Ah yes, the famous DRUNKTANK.
I can imagine you are well pleased the wretched engine bay is nigh on done. The splishy splashy sound as the Rover breaks the surface. When in the bath... I can do that sound quite naturally, no machinery needed.
I am very happy the engine bay is almost done. Last bit of painting today then the skin fittings go in!
@@DangarMarine Nice. Are you visiting the Engine maker when you do the US?
Great video. At first I though it was weird that the ROV doesn't have a tilt camera instead of tilting the entire Rov but was then amazed to see it still holds depth while moving forward and reverse while in the tilt. I'm very impressed with the features of this Rov and it seems to be a respectable price point. I like the size of it too... I might just have to look into getting one of these.
Yes, tilting the whole unit keeps the design quite simple and robust. Less moving hards to fail, leak or get sand in them and jam up.
What a great little toy might need to get one to film Snapper or any fish taking my baits how cool is that
The "Dangar Remote Underwater Nautical Knowledge Testing And Navigation Kindergarten!" Sometimes watching your videos is like watching an episode of Rick and Morty. You never know what easter eggs your gonna come across! Man ROV's have come a long way. That consumer model probably is easier to control than those 3 ton units you used to see in 90's documentaries!
Wow. Tulsa, Pasadena, and New York. For all your Aussie subs that think "All Americans are the same." That's an itinerary to show the difference! You'll probably be passing close to my hometown of Lincoln, NE on your way. A lot closer culturally and (dare I say) politically to Tulsa than either Cali or NY. Hope you get to enjoy what we've got to show here in the US, and get to avoid our average density of assholes!
Great vid Stu!
It is amazing how far these ROVs have come. The stabilisation technology makes it so easy to control, even out in the bay. I'm looking forward to the US trip now, I'm sure we'll see a huge variety of people and places along the way!
That rover is brilliant! I had no idea is was going to be that good. Be handy for fishing!
I was happily surprised too.
Nice!
What an amazing toy.
Very Cool
Maybe a good idea to make a mountingpoint on the top of your handrail on the boat. Winding the tether wire on the spool will make twists in the wire. If you make a spinning holder you could connect the spool to the one sided holder. Mount the battery /receiver block to the spool too. Have a winding grip and be able to spool it in very easy without twisting the wire. Add a simple friction brake to prevent it from unspooling itself by the weight of the cable hanging down to the surface. And if the holder has a swivel the drone could even take more line out by itself if you drive futher from the boat. Nothing fancy. Just some steel arm you put in a rod holder maybe. A bearing with a plate with two pins on it that will stick through the spool. One just long enough to come out and the other 8 cm longer. Both with a small hole in it. Two r clips to secure. The longer pin is the handle to turn the line in or out. Plastic strip with a curve that will sit over the bearing shaft on the stationary part of the with a hand screw a few cm oit to be able to push the plastic strip against the turning plate that holds the spool. By turning left you reduce brake and turning right will brake harder. Will make life easy and will linit wear on the tether. Long story for a simple brain wave. Great video. Nice underwater drone.
Yes, some form of tether spool is definitely on the to-do list.
Great gadget!!
This video of that underwater drone is going to stir up a lot of sales for that unit. I want one now so badly!! This marine test was spectacular. I could totally run down the batteries before I even realized it watching those beauties down there. Diving "dry" is a wonderful idea. I'm glad you will be featuring this drone in many videos coming up. Wish I could meet at one of your appointed group meetings here in the US. Please record or live stream when you can. I can't wait!
I was really impressed with both the stability in the ocean and the clarity of the video feed. I'm really looking forward to sending it on it's first real mission!
Might I suggest that your next ROV practice session be an inspection of your mooring. It would give you practice using the ROV to accomplish a task (other than sightseeing). Besides you should be using the mooring again pretty soon, and it would be nice to know its condition beforehand.
I was thinking the same thing. It's band new, but it would be good to see how it was configured.
That is just neat, it used to be the rovs were big clunky and hundreds of thousands of dollars now there within the reach of most people.
Thanks Stu that was that was really interesting. I learned to dive in 1975 when the Atpack was brand new, and drysuits were for the commercial diver. How times have changed.
Yes, it wasn't that long ago you would spend $20,000 any any vaguely useful ROV and it would be huge too. This is much more practical for the average person.
Cape May NJ would make a great place to visit while in the NYC area. It's a little over 2 hours south of the city and is a beautiful little town/city at the southern tip of NJ. It's the oldest seaside town/resort in the country full of Victorian architecture. It might make a better place to meet up for folks than the zoo of NYC. The dock at the Lobster House is definitely Stu's kind of place where you can eat fresh seafood, burgers and COLD beer next to the commercial fishing boats.
Sounds like a great stop and not a bad position either given we will be travelling down south anyway.
