How to Crochet Easy Child Poncho
Vložit
- čas přidán 30. 06. 2017
- The Crochet Girl's Poncho is a one piece garment that slides over the head of the child. There have been many requests from Crocheters to have the adult size called the Crochet Cool Poncho using Caron Cakes substituted for two reasons:
Make the neck opening smaller.
Make the garment one piece instead of two pieces for the adult size.
This pattern will allow you to get started. Start the same for both Adult and Child. The neck line for us adults will be smaller than the Crochet Cool Poncho. Follow the pattern as suggested and make the poncho as long as you need it to be. Instead of stopping for 16" for the child size, just continue to crochet until your desired length. The Cool Poncho has fringe and you can opt to do fringe for skip it.

I did 94 half double foundation chains! Works better, easier cause the yarn doesn't twist.😘 Thank you Mikey! Your Awesome! 💋💖
Thank you, Mikey😎my little granddaughters will appreciate these.
I can not thank you enough for this tutorial!! My granddaughter will love it I am sure. I worked for many days on a "easy " pattern that made me nuts. The directions were not clear and I wasted to much time trying to make it work. Thanks for helping this Mimi get it right with this cute Poncho!!!
Can't believe how easy this is. Thank you. UK 🇬🇧
Thank you for this simple pattern. Looking forward to making this for a granddaughter. Using 3 shades of pink, red heart.
Dear Sweet Mikey, I am sooooooo happy! I am now in the process of making a BEAUTIFUL poncho. I watched and tried to follow so many “””easy””” poncho videos. OMGOSH I was driving myself crazy!!! I am making a birthday gift for my granddaughter who’s only want is a poncho 💖 Thank you Thank you Thank You. You are a wonderful person and a wonderful teacher. 💜 Jo Anne
Love it, thanks for sharing and tutorial, so caring, and a lovely heart❤🌹
Incredible instructions as usual. Love this one piece poncho. As well, the Stitch Stop Ahead notification is a wonderful feature in this tutorial! Thank you so much!!
Hi Mike, thank you I followed your instructions and I have made a poncho for my granddaughter( 8/10 yes old). Now time to make one for me! I love following all your tutorials !
Hi Mike, at 7:58, you should've skipped one before doing the three double crochet, not right next single crochet. Otherwise the stitches are off at the end. I followed yours first, I ended up having 3 single crochet at the end after crocheting 5 groups of doubles. So, I did it my way, skipped a single crochet before and after when doing the three clusters double crochets. I ended up having only one stitch to join the first double crochet after a group of 5, which is perfect
Thank you - thought that as well.
Thank you! It would have taken me quite awhile to have sorted out the problem. Glad you documented the fix here.
I love this poncho. So easy. I used Caron Big Cakes Cherry Cake. It's turning out so beautiful. For a special Lil girl.
I love it an must try it out thanks for sharing
Thanks for the video... I will be making this with some Caron cakes yarn that I have stashed away🤓

Very nice and easy. I feel inspired.
I didn't hear you say how many rows to crochet?
You always come through....thank you :)
Thank you for a nice easy pattern. Is it possible to add on a cowl neck once the work is finished or do you have a pattern for a ten to twelve year old that starts with a cowl and finishes with your nice easy pattern? Margaret
Thank you, I was able to crochet this poncho with Chimera yarn by Lyon Brand and it looks so pretty, it was very easy to follow along!
Perfect....very easy to follow. I am nearly done with it....works up really quick. Thank You 😊
Glad it helped!

Thank you for doing a girls size, no one ever does girls sizes it's always women or infant. Finally a size I can use
I found it hard to find a pattern, like you said it's always adult or baby. 🇬🇧😊
@@obsessedwithnailsbyh2223 Bag-O-Day Crochet has lots of "Child sizes". Try looking for her on CZcams and Facebook 👍

I like your tutorial
I used your pattern and crocheted a poncho for my 8yr old granddaughter Gracie. If I can figure out how to add a picture of it to your channel would be great. It came out beautiful, just like Gracie.
Beautifully explained 👍
Thank you 🙂
hi Mikey, you're the best! is there ANYWAY you can tell me how to do a similar poncho but straight across not pointed and a turtleneck? thank you
We have a crochet cape in our collection here. Turtle neck and no points. Simply Called Crochet Cape.
Thank you so much I am a beginner and this is outstanding my granddaughter will love this
I also need to make a bigger one how do I do this sorry to ask xx
Hi Mikey thanks for the cool way to not twist the chain when joining I love your video's and how can I make this for an adult?
Just make it longer. In the video description. There's a link and I address that specifically there.
Make it longer and wider if you want but the width came out fine for my niece but I put it over my head too and it was fine. I'd just make this but longer and maybe a larger hook
I have just made this.its quite easy and great for soneone making a poncho for the first time.
Wonderful! I'm glad I could assist you.
Hi mike, I’m making the poncho and I noticed my points are going crooked I’ve checked my stitch count of made sure there’s three in each one where they’re supposed . But I don’t know why it’s going crooked. Can you please help me.
Thank you , l made and very nice
tyfs love the tip to keep it from twisting! look forward to making it - will it work for 11 year old girl?
Yes
I did the first 2 rows but I want to do a popcorn stitch or a bubble stitch instead. can I do that follow this pattern?
Thank you for your help
You're welcome.
Can anyone tell me why my poncho is twisting now that I have almost completed it? This has happened twice now.
How can i make this poncho smaller, to fit a 2-4 year old . Thanks
After few rows, does it get to a point where as you have to start new row at the corners?
Has anyone actually just used Red heart yarn and changed color when you want? I need to work on something and money is tight right now , and that’s all the yarn I have . Curious if so how it came out. Other wise I will wait and get the Caron cakes I have never used . Always admired it though thank you 😊
Oh wow you are the best 👌
Wow, thanks!
Thank you for the tip to keep my original chain from twisting!
Happy to help!
Yes! I also appreciate that tip. Excellent, easy to follow tutorial.
how many rounds
how many cakes do i have to use for child
We’re there any corrections on this pattern I had to chain 91 to come up with 13 sets of three in between the points🥹 I have started this project 3 times🥹😊
Does wool yarn peel? How will I prevent it?Idont like synthetic yarn like nylon or acrylic. Ilike biodegradable ones.Plz tell me if bamboo yarn is better than the wool or acylic.
I like cotton yarn a lot
Do you a left handed video
Is there a pattern for an adult?
Hi, I would like to fo this lovely poncho for my girl that is 5 years old. How can I reduce (or rather how many chains should I reduce) the chains so that it is smaller?
I'm not really sure on the multiples. I would think about looking up ponchos on Ravelry for this style as someone else may have a chain count that is smaller for your wishes. :D
I did a 78 FDC, so I had 9 groups of 3 between the v’s for my tall almost 5 year old and it fits great. I used FDC to give the neck a little bit of stretch so I can just add to the length as she grows, and can hopefully get a couple of years wear out of it.
Thanks for the tutorial. I would l ik e to crochet for 3 years old girl, how many chains do I need in the beginning?
I'm really not sure without doing testing trials. It would be better to find a different pattern for that age so the math is correct. I'm sorry, we just have done that leg-work to know the answer.
Does someone know how long from the point to the neck line , for a 10 year old? Thanks.
Hi...can adults wear this pattern?
Hi Mikey, if I want to make this smaller, what are the multiples. Eg: divisible by 8 plus ? Or whatever. My ages are 6 to 8 and 4 to 6. Thank you.
How many multiple chain to get the motif i want make it smaller
Did you get a reply for a toddler size ?
When starting a new row, I slip stitch to get to the next section to crochet 3ch and then 2dc. Each start of a new row moves over one....am I doing this wrong...please advise.
It shouldnt move over one.. or at least I've not noticed it, I suppose it couldve lol. I'll keep going and check back! I'm sure you were doing it right!
Ok. So after a few days of working on this when I find the time... mine is doing that also. The slip stitch is going further over to the left each time but it's not effecting anything (yet at least lol) I'm half way through.
Kathy Desjourdy I’m experiencing the same thing! I’m worried it will run into the point! Then what?
nice video
Loops of Happy
got it 16"
Hi.. i love the pattern.. one question.. i want to know how many ivhes should be the neck opening for a 8-10 y/o. I want to use 4 mm hook for a 4 ply uarn. Thanks in advance ..
I mean how many ' inches '..
How to I get the written pattern?
Where can I upload a photo, I finished this poncho.
Thank you! My granddaughter requested one in dark blue. I just finished!!
Very nice. I hope she loves it. Enjoy your week.
how many stitches if i wanted to make a teenagers poncho.
Love this. Is there a way to add a hoodie to this?
Did you hear him say how many rows to make? I did not. I guess I will look at the photo and count myself.
If you increase your initial chain count from 94 to 96, and keep the same cluster count then you will have perfect corners
Wow, wish I would of read this comment before I made this. Thanks for the tip. I will try that for the next one!
Should I do 96 chains or stick with the 94?
But if you increase to 96, it will either have a LARGER hole or it will have one more cluster than the other side. Won't it come out lopsided??? I would rather decrease to 93 and keep the count even.
Why do I have 11 clusters on one side and 12 clusters on the other side. I followed the instructions exactly. Is it suppose to be this way?
Hello I’m noticing the same thing of moving over on the slip stitch . I’m worried that it’s going to run into the point then what?
Patricia Friedman I could love the answer to that question.
Hi Mickey! Love your tutorials. I can't stop it from twisting. I've tried it 4 times and the same thing happens. I've done the adult poncho but that one wasn't done in one piece. Any suggestions?
The chain you mean?
How to Crochet - The Crochet Crowd thank you for responding. Yes so I chain the 94 the way you show in the video and it all looks good. It's after I get the first row done in the pattern with the skip one and then dc three times - after that row there is a twist in it. I think it's the way I'm sc the chain or something. Sorry for sounding so confusing. I'm only crocheting a year learning strictly from your videos.

Donna Woodland Go to crochet grandma’s V stitch child’s poncho to see how she avoids twisting
I followed your tip to keep the chain from turning and as I got to the end of round one it managed to end up twisted. I don't know what I did wrong. I've taken this out several times!! Help!!!
Girl I did the same 😅
Someone mentioned doing a half double chain and it wont twist but I've never done one, I'm sure it's easy if I looked it up
Elizabeth Wolford Instead of joining, turn the work for the foundation, then join work at round 2 into 3. When you finish the neckline separately later, it will cover over it. See crochet grandmas child’s V stitch poncho.
Can I use a 5.5 or a 4.5 hook? Or does it have to be a 5.0?
I's really up to you. Changing the hook size will change the size of the pattern. I'm a loose crocheter so I usually use a smaller size hook than recommended to get the pattern to be sized right.
Do you no if there is a hat to March this poncho.
can I use this video for adult size too and a J hook?
Yep
I would like to make one for a 2 to 3 yr old where could I find the pattern? Or how man should I chain first.
I have a slightly different pattern. thecrochetcrowd.com/spring-mom-and-me-poncho-set-crochet-pattern/ I don't know the chains without doing sampling and testing. I'm sorry.
I was making this for my 2 yr old granddaughter but the neck is huge. Is this pattern done in threes or fours? I’d like to redo it smaller plz
I don't believe this pattern is for that small of child. A complete redesign would have to be done to make it smaller and calculate the math. I'm sorry. I don't have that on hand to offer you.
Mikey, my points don't lone up on the bottom when I hold it up. They veer off to opposite ways. I've taken it apart twice...same thing. ...what am I doing wrong
Turn your work every round that way it ends up even. Same with granny squares.
Mine didn't either. But thanks for the tip! I'll do that next time. As far as using this same stitch count for adults... No. The shoulders are way too narrow
@@dlyla3901 thanks for the tip. Geez! Wish I saw this earlier. Pulled out two times☹
Please send me the pattern I looking for a women size poncho thanks
Hi how many rounds do you do.for this one
I was wondering the same thing
I have followed the pattern and on the first round I am coming up with 12 on one side and 13 on the other side counting the points. On round 3 I got 14 and 15. HELP, please.
Ummm... Is the video different from the instructions?
No, I found my mistake. It's supposed to be 13 and 13 for a total of 26 on the first round.
Wish I knew how you did that. I am having the very same problem and cannot get it to come out right!
How many rounds should I do? I don't know if you mentioned how many or not.
The directions state finished is 16inches but I'm not sure where you measure it, at the points or side.
How many initial chain stitches would I need for size 6-7 year old please?
I'm not really sure without research and testing trails. It may be better to a different pattern for different stitch counts.
I prefer to join after the sc to make sure it doesn't twist.
if i wanted to make this in a adult size how big would the starting chain need to be?
YOu can use this video instead. It's same stitchwork but in adult size. czcams.com/video/c3MRTBzccII/video.html
Hi Mikey. Your instructions are SO GREAT. Easy to follow for me because I am a visual learner. Would this fit my 2 year old Granddaughter? Or will it be to big?
I think it will be too big as the model for the child isn't a toddler. You may find another pattern like this that is more for babies and toddlers.
Do you have a pattern for Toddlers?
let me search the channel for you. I know of one but it's no in this design. Give me a few minutes. I usually put in the titles the sizing.
Thank you, I have been looking as well 😊
czcams.com/video/Bov_723E--o/video.html
Does it fit a 5 yr old
OK, stupid question, I may have missed this but how many rows do you do on this girls poncho?
The designer states 16". Not rows... So you didn't miss the row count.
Thank you
How many stitches for a 5 year old please
Hi, I would love e a written pattern for the poncho, where can I get it?? I love the poncho but tutorial is nice but a bit hard for me to follow, thanks a lot.
In the VIDEO information for all of our videos, the link to the free pattern is included. Please enjoy.
@@TheCrochetCrowd I found the pattern, thank you very much
I'm having problems with my points lining up when I file the poncho....I have the correct amount on each side, it just looks a little off....help please
Same. Did you ever figure that out?
@@lbo6050 me too if you figure it out can you let me know.
It looks twisted on the bottom. Have re done it twice and it still is lop sided
@@donnadavis7797 I just kept going and it ended up being perfect. I realized I was looking at it the wrong way, I folded it the other way with the points facing front and back and it looked right.
@@lbo6050 thank you for your help
@@donnadavis7797 you're welcome, I hoped that helped. Are you still having problems?
Never knew a bloke could crotchet hahaha. xx
Should my points be even when I hold it up? Why would the points be off?
Due to going around and around, they can appear to be askew. As long as you have the space counts between the points, you are fine. I would dampen it and block it. I use steam to block it. czcams.com/video/Ucz-6BsvZys/video.html
How do I size this up? How many stitches do I add per pattern?
