    The original #LexusNX was a little late to the compact luxury SUV segment back in 2015. It quickly become one of the company's best-selling model and for 2022, ‪@lexus‬ is giving the new NX some serious upgrades. Both the #LexusNX350 and #LexusNX450h+ are designed to challenge the heart of the luxury segment with a new 2.4L turbo engine making 275 HP, while the #NX450h+ utilizing the same #PHEV powertrain from the #Toyota #RAV4Prime with a combined 302 HP and 36 miles of EV only range. It should challenge the best from its rivals, but we would happily recommend the plug-in hybrid for its acceleration, EV range, and tax credit which makes it the most enticing option in the lineup.

    Good evening everyone! Again, please be sure to visit www.harrys.com/redlinereviews to get your starter kit. We also wanted to let you know that after we filmed the driving scene, we got our 0-60 timing equipment and got some surprising numbers. The NX 350 with its 2.4L turbo engine did 0-60 in a disappointing 7.8 seconds, about a second slower than what Lexus claims. The NX 450h+ did it in 6.3 seconds which was close to the 6 seconds that Lexus claims. We will retest both vehicles again for a second video once we get them back home for a week to drive. This is going to be a hot car for Lexus and we imagine the PHEV will be in high demand, just like the RAV4 Prime.

    Even with the $7500 federal tax credit and $1500 California tax credit, $46k before any packages and tax/title/license fees is a very hard sell for me for the 450h+.
    At that kind of money better off getting a higher spec'd Rav4 Prime. With the money saved by not buying the 450h+ that would pay for gas for at least 4-5 years+.
    Heck, even any of the EVs in the same price range (Mach E, ID.4, or even a Model Y) would work too.
    I also agree why we have to pay extra for a 6.6KW charger. MSRP is already $55k+!
    If you're set on an NX, you're better off going for an NX350 or NX350h.

  • @Iczer1
    @Iczer1 Před 2 lety +27

    You left out one important fact regarding accelerating in the turbo model. The temperature you were testing it in was well over 100° which will decrease the performance significantly enough to feel. Definitely wait until you get a model you can test in more average temperatures.

    • @singular9
      @singular9 Před 2 lety +4

      False, since the turbo mitigates this issue. This isn't a naturally aspirated model that is dependent on ambient air density. This is why we use turbos, to mitigate temperature and altitude issues by simply controlling the wastegate spring pressure.

    • @Iczer1
      @Iczer1 Před 2 lety +3

      @@singular9 turbo does not mitigate it but it reduces the effect. By boosting it compensates for thinner air caused by the temperature but since air is thinner the boosted air density will not be as good as when it is cooler. It is also why a boosted engine will feel even more powerful in cooler temperatures because the air is thicker. The base value of the air if you will is boosted by an x amount depending on boost pressure thus resulting in a denser air. How dense is still going to be affected by the starting air density. Also, being a Toyota/Lexus turbo, it would be safe to assume the boost is low to
      Improve reliability. Lexus/Toyota’s 0-60 numbers are generally a bit conservative and can usually be obtained. So I predict the slower number achieved was probably affected by temperature. There are other factors to be considered but pretty sure in a milder climate the claimed number is probably doable.

    • @singular9
      @singular9 Před 2 lety +2

      @@Iczer1 you don't understand.
      The turbo will maintain boost at a certain PSI which is regulated by the wastegate spring sensor. PSI can be affected by air temperature, but regardless, the turbo will spool up and the wastegate opens only at the PSI that is set by the ECU tune. In other words, whatever PSI that is set in the ECU is the psi that will be delivered by the turbo. Most turbos cab deliver hundreds of PSI but they don't because the wastegate allows air to bypass and therefore leaking it into the exhaust, limiting the PSI.
      Considering Lexus runs a PSI of 5 over ambient sea level (and therefore in mountains or hot climate this would not matter since the total psi is a simile addition of 1 Bar + 5 PSI = 19.5 PSI) then the turbo will continue to spool until reaching 19.5 PSI, which is the same volume of air regardless of what temperature since the ECU knows to factor in air temperature and density into the equation of PSI. If temperature goes up, so does ambient PSI (which can be measured by both the wastegate and MAF sensor) and therefore +5 psi on top of the elevated ambient.
      I haven't even explained the fact that on a turbo engine, the ecu will over ride the wastegate if the MAF signals that it's not receiving optimal amounts of air. That is why these sensors are built into a car.
      So you sir, didn't factor in engineering genius. Do you seriously think that engineers that design these engines don't know that air volume changes with temperatures and have accounted for that?
      Lmfao. What an idiot you are.

    Lol the grill is stupidly massive, they need to relook into this design. Everything else looks good though

    Would you say the 450h is a lot more quiet comfortable than the rav4 prime ?

      "... The NX350h utilizes a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) as opposed to the NX350's eight-speed auto, and at full throttle, the gas engine emits a coarse moan at constant high rpm. Despite its off-road prowess, we found the NX350h's overall ride and handling somewhat less impressive. Dynamically, the NX defaults to understeer (as most similar crossovers do and probably should) with reasonable grip, but it doesn't deliver the type of engaging driving experience the Jaguar F-Paces and Genesis GV70s of the segment do. From an overall ride quality perspective, the NX350h's suspension will easily reach its bumpstops through larger bumps and struggles to settle down over stretches of uneven pavement. The cabin is proper luxury-SUV quiet, but the rest of the experience fails to live up to that standard..." Motor Trend

    The RAV4 and this are basically all the car 80% of humanity would need 99% of the time. Of course no one "needs" luxury but its nice to have a quieter vehicle and some people just want nice things too. There is an engine to fit pretty much anyones desire, and its Toyota so its built better than any other car on Earth and will last 20+ years with ease. Oh and the spindle grille actually is done well here; no god-ugly implementation like on their bigger SUVs. Slam dunk.

      Some cheaper alternatives like Honda or Mazda or Acura or even Hyundai and Kia are just as well built as Toyota and Lexus but they tend to offer nicer interiors or better materials or better polish to the small things like technology or vehicle dynamics
