No idea why this album seems to always get passed over. IMHO it is one of Eltons best and this song is typical of the quality throughout.
Agree 100%!!!!!!!
@@popsmcgee9775 Absolutely. This is probably my favourite 'early' album. The sequel, 2006's 'The Captain and the Kid', is one of my favourite 'later' EJ albums. Ten songs and not a bad one amongst them. The best is either the title track or 'Blues Never Fade Away'. (Just a suggestion for our host, a chance to see how the autobiographical song writing developed over a span of 30 years!)
I agree. I have this album and I always thought it was fantastic! So many great and unique songs.
It doesnt get passed over. Most ppl say its their fave
I know! This is my favourite part of the album/CD, *"We All Fall In Love Sometimes"/"Curtains".* Every time I listen to this song, I always feel like crying like a baby. I don't know why, I'm not in love with anyone.
I really love that you research the songs before you listen. It gives the listen more depth.
Please continue on to the closing song of the album. "Curtains" is a masterpiece in my opinion.
I have said this before, but what makes the musical team of Elton John and Bernie Taupin so great, is that even their lesser-known songs like this one are just as good as Elton's big hits.
Elton said the entire Goodbye Yellow Brick Road could have been singles.
@@lauraallen55 I agree. Every song on that album was great!
I love the deep cuts
The section fronm 5:38 to 5:49 is a direct reference to Elton and Bernie's first album, "Empty Sky" and features the harpsichord riff from that album's track "Skyline Pigeon"
The harpsichord version is my favourite one. The harpsichord has such a unique sound to it.
@@deannadrake2040 I can't decide which version of Pigeon I like better, they're both so damn good.
@@jons.105 Indeed! Elton performed "Pigeon" at Ryan White's funeral, too.
I've seen Elton 9 times live since '92. One of those shows happened on 10 Oct. 97 in Winston-Salem, NC, which was the first night of "The Big Picture" tour. It hadn't quite been a full month since Elton had performed the revised version of "Candle In The Wind"/"Goodbye, England's Rose" at Diana's funeral. I think most of us adults in attendance at the Winston-Salem show knew he wasn't going to do "Candle" that night, or for awhile at that. The second song of his encores was a Beth Nielsen Chapman song called, "Sand & Water", then after that the closing songs were the combo of "We All Fall In Love Sometimes" & "Curtains". They even speed up "Curtains" towards the end & then slowed it back down to its normal speed. I didn't think I would ever hear either/both of these songs live, & they were absolutely flawless. Simply incredible.
Okay, I was finally inspired to pull out my program for the 1975 Captain Fantastic tour, that I wrote the set list on (27 songs). Now I'm glad it survived a big paper purge a couple of months back. And yes, he closed with "We all fall in love sometimes/Curtains" (before the encore of "Saturday night's alright for fighting" and "Pinball wizard").
The magic of Elton John is the BAND (+ Bernie). Truly unique when they all come together.
Isn't it just beautiful and lush and yummy? Love this album.
At long last somebody reacted to this wonderful piece. Thank you!
The band kills it here. Nigel Olsson, Dee Murray and Davey Johnstone...totally at the top of their game.
Such a good album!❤🎶
A classic EJ album!! And one of my favorite songs by him. His work from the 70s is so brilliant.
I love all of Elton's music and songs!! His music will be everlasting 🙏❤️
I haven’t listened to this album for years but I remember that I played it quite a lot when it came out. You’ve inspired me to add it to my playlist and renew my memories.
In the Elton John biopic, "Rocketman," there’s a moving scene that captures their platonic love and mutual respect (when Elton adds music on-the-fly to a poem Bernie wrote, resulting in their first hit, "Your Song.")
I haven't seen the entire movie, but I have seen that scene & have it saved on my laptop. They captured the essence of the Taupin/John "marriage" perfectly in that one scene. At some point I will eventually get around to watching the ENTIRE movie, lol.
My favourite EJ album, ever! I'm so happy you're listening to it. Thank you SalvoG
Your reaction to this great but also very underrated song reminds me of how I felt when I heard it so many years ago.I saw Elton and his band of extremely talented musicians many times and the Captain Fantastic tour was the first one when they came through Atlanta. Thanks again for the great content and reaction and you have a new sub!
I saved up my allowance to buy this album when I was a kid. The whole album is great!
The whole album is stunning. I hope you listen to every song.🙂
How did I miss this? Elton is my favorite and this is from my favorite album. Going to Patreon to see the rest of the album reaction now. omg!
First Elton John song I learned how to play on the piano. Glad you liked it!
Well……that was just utterly gorgeous. What else can be said?
It makes me SO HAPPY that you are appreciating and reacting so positively to Elton's music. Please listen to and react to MORE ELTON!!!
Thank you for this deeper dive! ✌
I remember buying the Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy album the minute it was released! I would spend a long time studying the artwork on it, trying to analyze the meaning behind the imagery. This album is musical autobiography of Elton and Bernie’s journey to stardom. It is the last album that was recorded with Elton’s original band. It is sort of bittersweet in that regard, although the band eventually reunited. It is a masterpiece of an album!
Magnificent album …..❤❤❤
Thank you for reacting to this I just can't get over how people miss these amazing gems.
Yes Salvo I love Davey Johnstone playing too! I think he is so talented!
One of my favorite albums. A Desert Island Disc selection, for sure.
Killing me with this one should have went right into the next one love you
The title track is really really good. Don’t miss it! But yes, this song is just gorgeous.
You need to listen to "Curtains" its Epic...
One of my fav albums
You should do one of your complete album dives on Captain Fastastic, since it's very much an autobiographical concept album that rewards listening to as a whole.
Elton John released a follow up autobiographical album 30 years later The Captain and The Kid. The title song is one of his best from the 2000s.
Elton wrote a tribute song to John Lennon after he passed called EMPTY GARDEN - You might need to make THAT your next Elton reaction. It is AMAZING!
The must hear for Elton is SOMEONE SAVED MY LIFE TONIGHT. Aside from being a fantastic listen, it is autobiographical.. Also must hears are DANIEL and YELLOW BRICK ROAD
One of his best albums IMO
This is a song that you absolutely have to listen to with 'Curtains' as one song.
The first time I heard this song, I had myself a cleansing cry. Its lyrics speak of a deep love for a friend. Alas, when we declare such love for our platonic friends - especially same sex - it's often met with embarrassment and fear. That certainly was the case with my friends, with whom I also felt that kind of love - but dared not express it.
Davey Johnstone posts fantastic videos on his social media accounts
You should let the second song Curtains play through as well…
Davey's the bomb!!
My hands-down favorite from this album!
I always thought this record was his masterpiece.
You should have let it go into Curtains. The two songs bleed together for a reason.
Indeed! There used to be at least one post here on YT that included both songs but now I can't find it.
If you want to hear some very powerful lyrics from the pen of Bernie Taupin react to "Ticking" from Elton's 1974 Caribou album!
That is absolutely hands down the heaviest song I've ever heard. I made a painting for it.
@@deannadrake2040 It is a very heavy song and so sad that as it turns fifty years old those haunting lyrics are still so relevant today.
I love the Amish look.
Elton said of this period his "team" was a well oiled machine by this point. The band, producer Gus Dungeon, Bernie, all at a creative peak. Unfortunately EJ broke up that team after this LP. Even Bernie was out of the picture by 1978. Hard to imagine.
Curtains is the best part!!
Man you have to react to Roxette, believe me! Listen To Your Heart to be more specific 😁
this issuch a goof fng album.
Written by both Bernie and Elton. Elton wrote the music.
As others have said, We all fall in love sometimes and Curtains have to go together. I hate be negative, but just reacting to one doesn't do the song justice. The two combined are near the top of my all-time favorite Elton John songs.
Amazing album. But I prefer his 1976 album Blue Moves.
one of his better songs. a major driving song of mine back then. i was about 18 no cares good times.
