  • Great Balls Of Fire(1989)set to Big Maybelle Whole Lotta Shakin (1955) Performed by Valerie Wellington perfect scene to show the origins of Rock and Roll
    Lyrics:
    When there one drum
    I'm an old bass hun
An' someone beatin' on a ding dong
    Come on over baby
    Whole lotta shakin' going on
    Come on over baby
    Baby you can't go wrong
    Ain't nobody faking
    Whole lotta shakin' going on
    Come on over baby
Whole lotta kickin' in the barn
    Come over baby, baby
We got the bull by the horn
    Everything's kicking
    Whole lotta shakin' going on
    Makin' and makin' it shake
Doe and the flow and the gate
    Takin' and makin' it shake
    Cake then found the plate
Shakin' we shakin' and shakin' the place
Come on over, baby, come on
We done found that ding dong
    Come on over baby
    Whole lotta shakin' going on
    Come on over baby
    Baby you can't go wrong
    Ain't nobody faking
    Whole lotta shakin' going on
    Makin' and makin' it shake
Doe and the flow and the gate
    Takin' and makin' it shake
    Cake then found the plate
    Makin' it, makin' it shake
Shakin' in the jams, (but case)
    Sweet, oh, baby come on...

This movie romanticizes a grown man's marriage to a 13 year old girl.

For those who don't Kno whole lotta shakin goin on was originally sung and recorded by a beautiful lady by the name of Big Maybelle but Jerry Lee re-recorded it and made a hit off of it just like Elvis re-recorded and had a hit off of Hound Dog whom which was originally sung and recorded by Big Mama Thorton and I don't think any of these ladies received any amount of money for there song but back then it was alright and common for artist to take another artist song without paying the original artist who actually wrote the song and sung it look at little Richard and Pat Boone.

Elvis did that with a ton of songs (jailhouse rock, thats alright mama, money honey, love me tender, now or never, etc) and i read that he never wrote any songs himself

Right about that. At least Bill Haley and Big Joe Turner were good friends regarding Shake, Rattle, and Roll. Here's another one for you...Train Kept A Rollin..many people know the Johnny Burnette version but don't realize it was a 1951 Tiny Bradshaw song. I wish more people would realize that some of the best rock and roll songs are actually covers of songs recorded years earlier by black R & B artists.

@@AeonAxisProductionsit was not in Elvis' or Jerry Lee's hands at all but they made the music popular which is a big gift in those days. Elvis paid credit slot to black people and community, research what BB King, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Sammy Davis Jr. everyone said about Elvis...only good words and memory. Whitney Houston's mother Cissy was singer in Elvis choir "Sweet Inspirations"...all black female singers except one. So please don't bash Elvis. He did what he could to credit black music and singers even monetary.

The woman in which this lady is playing is named Big Maybelle. Big Maybelle originally sung and recorded whole lotta shakin and Jerry Lee re-recorded it but she made it a hit first but she probably will never get the recognition she deserves.

Elvis had the voice and style to do a cover of the original song as presented here. A slower more sultry version with all that goodness lol. Damn shame he never did. Now ...Jerry had that boogie woogie piano awesome thing and made the song his own. And that's not disputed lol. Just saying that that Elvis would have been amazing doing a cover of the slower sultry jazzy version.

So why didn't Jerry go for a legally aged black woman?? 18 years or older ? Seems like he would've stayed out of trouble that way. I'm pretty sure they had plenty of Legal aged single women back then.

Those were different times. Cross race marriages were not common. People that knew Jerry Lee pointed out that he was very juvenile and a 13 year old girl was probably as mature as he was. Also, Jerry considered it normal: his sister was 3 times divorced by the time she was around 15-16 (if I'm not mistaken).

    • @amasion2882
      @amasion2882 Před 4 lety +3

Jerry Lee was a product of his time. But he was also highly impulsive and unconventional. If he never married a black woman it’s probably because he never wanted to or the woman he wanted didn’t want him.
