    I don't like the way the binding on the ends are done. There is a better way to bind the end and get it round rather than having a spiral bulge. That inequality of circumference could cause a problem getting the ends to hold securely. I do like the toggle ends, and magnetic catches would also work.

  • @kayvallance9560

    can i move the weight up the braid so the braid can coil in my lap, but the weight is still pulling on the braid? I use a binder clip with weight attached to that.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 5 lety +1

      You can, I just caution it if you are using beads at any point, you don't want to crack your beads or warp you braid if the clip is too tight.

  • @ilovelar
    @ilovelar Před 5 lety +1

    I'm just getting into Kumihimo, and your videos have been invaluable! I don't see any indication that your braids do this odd thing that mind do, though. Hope you can give me direction. When I pull on the finished braid, it lengthens a great deal (even when I'm using the weight). It ends up narrower and the knots (if that's what you call all those intersections of cord) pull apart. It looks good, but when I want to keep the tighter, thicker version that comes out before I pull on it, I'd have to make sure that the jewellery never gets pulled on. I don't see that happening. Can you help?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 5 lety

      Hi! The only thing I can think of is making sure you have a tight tension at the top of the board. The type of cord you are using and the heaviness of the weight may have a factor in the end result. I'm so sorry I can't be of more help, I have not had this issue before. There can be a little give but it shouldn't be much. Thanks for watching!

    • @grimtt
      @grimtt Před 3 lety +1

      You’ve probably moved on by now, but for posterity ... you could try manually stretching your cords before hooking them on the loom. This may or may not work depending on what type of cord you are using-how much ‘give’ it has. I read this tip on a kit I was using and I think it helped some because my former projects had the problem you mentioned.

    Would a gathering knot on the ends to finish it work or would it make it too bulky?

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 2 lety +1

      You know I'm not sure we've ever tried that look. I do worry it would look too bulky, especially with this particular style where the cords are quite thick already and the braid isn't beaded. It might make a better experiment for a kumi project where most of the length is beaded, then a knot in an unbeaded end portion might not stand out as much.We've got a lot of tutorials on beaded kumihimo projects if you're new to the style: czcams.com/play/PLdGWVJ-tb1bHGMZuegvUqiksO7yV7p86O.html

      @beadaholique  Před 3 lety

      Yes varying the order like that will give you a different look. It's difficult to predict how different without testing it. We do a lot a short one-inch test braids when developing patterns to see what look we like best.

    Ok that cord is expensive and I don’t want to waste it just BC I’m just now learning how to make one of these so how much cord do I really need ? I have a small wrist.

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 2 lety

      If you have some satin rattail pieces that are shorter than the 18 ft long ones we used and you're wondering if they're long enough what I'd suggest is measuring them and then making an inch long test braid to see how much cord that takes up. Multiplying that by 6 to 7 inches should give you an idea of how much cord you'll need. The lengths used in kumihimo vary a lot depending on the thickness of your cord, the size of your disk, and the amount of tension you use, so we always recommend doing a test braid.

      Sorry for not measuring. For this project we started with uncut cords that are 5.5 meters long kept braiding until we got to a length we liked. There was a lot of cord left over. You can see the cord here: beadaholique.com/products/rosy-gold-kumihimo-bracelet

      Hi! Thanks for letting us know. I will review this video to see what we can add to help others. I am thinking you could make a key chain with the shorter amounts or do a bracelet focal and add chain to either side. Those are the first things that come to mind. I hope it helps spur some creativity!

  • @winningnumbers

    Why find a midpoint on the cords and make a knot??? I am confused. Is it because it is seeded? because on the other videos that are regular and not seeded, you don't make the midpoint knots. Thank you for a reply

    • @beadaholique
      @beadaholique  Před 3 lety +1

      It's just a small difference in technique, you can do it either way. Might help if I write out the process. In this video Kat starts with 6 cords that are each six yards long, then she gathers them up folds them in half and knots the midpoint, creating 12 cords that are 3 yards long. That's one way to do it. The other way to do it, which we've shown in some of our other videos, would be to cut 12 individual 3 yard long cords, then tie the ends together. Either way will work fine, the number of cord ends and their length is what's most important.

    Why are you calling a spiral braid a round braid? They are two different styles. You demonstrate the making of a spiral braid, not a round one. You'd better go back to braiding school and learn something about what you're talking about. 🤬
