    OMG! Butterfly Koi at last. Thank you, they are sooooo beautiful. I spotted two large white ones that totally stole my heart. I will have to go back and pause this so many times to look at them all. This truly made my day so much better (terrible cold..). ❀❀❀

    Funny how your serious koi enthusiast discount butterfly koi, yet the general public (who far outnumber them), buy them up first. You can get a shipment delivered, and those butterfly will surely sell out long before the standard fin ones do. Your average homeowner who have backyard ponds want the more elegant beautiful version of koi. It also helps that they know they won't get stuck with a large baby dolphin size fish they will be forced later to find a new home for. 👍

    You should try to convince Dutch Pilot Girl to fly you to Japan. She's both brilliant and beautiful. Her channel shows her perfect takeoffs and landings at some of the most difficult airports in the world under very harsh conditions. She looks a lot like the wife seen in some of your videos. You might enjoy The Kamakura Gardener, a fascinating man.

    I was just watching a video of Sakai koi bred in Thailand and they look outstanding. I appreciate the Japanese bred much more mostly because of the history and pedigree. Will this affect the market in Japan and make the prices more lenient? If it does I hope to the better and make the hobby more fruitful.

    Drum filters, Smum filters
 mechanical filtration is a part but not the main one. When you see the stocking levels of these koi houses and see mostly biological filtration with traditional media you’ve got to ask yourself a question especially as most of the fish you see are in good condition. Enthusiasts in Europe and US seem so easily sucked in by the industry. I kept Koi successfully for many years in the uk using traditional media. Oyster shell, Japanese matting etc. and lots of it. My mechanical filtration consisted mainly of vortex and very large slo flow settlement tanks. Water quality was always good and fish were happy. If I were to promote one modern day method of enhancing water quality even further then it would be recycling RO. Set up correctly, Baki showers also work really well.

      Hey, thanks for reaching out 😃 well, It’s about space, maintenance, healthy water and an economic way of doing business for the breeders. Not even talking about sustainability

    • @paulmarjoram2258
      @paulmarjoram2258 Pƙed 6 měsĂci +1

      @@TheKoiPartner don’t understand what you mean about sustainability if you’re promoting drum filters. The mechanical stages of my last filtration system consisted of a 2m x 2m x 2m settlement chamber with nothing in it and purged as and when required from there water went to a 2m diameter 2m deep vortex. Again purged as and when required. Every time these were purged I lost no more than 150 litres (I guess on average I dumped 450 litres a week and replaced that with a mix of mains and collected rain water. I know a few people with Drum filters who are having wash once or twice a day when feeding ramps up from spring to autumn probably dumping a lot more water than I ever did. Plus there’s the electricity used by the drum motor.
      Koi keeping, like caring for all living things, requires watching, listening, learning, understanding and effort. No equipment in existence will negate the need for having to do these things.
      Slow flow I.e turning over the volume of the pond and filter chambers once every 3 - 4 hours always worked for me. For me Oyster shells are one of the most effective types of filter media I know and Baki showers with a mix of coarse hollow Japanese matting and momotaro baki media do so many great things. All of this combined kept my water like snow melt and koi in the finest of condition. Sorry for the small book but I get so frustrated with all the over hyping of this modern sell sell stuff.

    As i know, butterfly koi is cross breeding between Japan koi and Indonesian gold fish. In Indonesia we call it kumpay koi or slayer koi.

    If drum filters worked,the Japanese Breeders would use them. Don't forget they flush the bottom drains daily, if they don't know how to keep koi after 120 years then they never will

    • @TheKoiPartner
      @TheKoiPartner  Pƙed 6 měsĂci +4

      They are using them! It’s very simple actually, breeders are used to there way of filtering passed on by generations. The koi houses never changed in design, so they are behind compared to the way hobbyist use them. All breeders, Dainichi, ISA, Sakai all start using drums now. Couple of reasons: 1 less maintenance, breeders/staff spend hundreds of hours a month cleaning their filtration. 2. More feeding and more growth. 3. Better water quality 4. Better sales due to clear water etc. etc. It has nothing to do with “if they know how to keep Koi” it’s about making progress and improving their way of doing business and keeping their fish healthier. You will soon on my channel more about this ✌
