- Are all photographic beauty dishes created equal? Should you stick with the classic, but easily damaged, metal beauty dish? Or are the new line of collapsable dishes just as good.
Today in the Photo Kitchen, we put 4 dishes up to the test. A classic metal dish will take on the Impact, Profoto, and Chimera models of collapsable beauty dishes.

Thank you for watching. Are you looking to make a purchase?
Highly informative. Thanks for making this video.
My pleasure!
Very useful information .... Thank you

Thanks for the helpful comparison. I recently used a traditional beauty dish for an on location shoot. Carrying it under my arm, along with 2 stands and a 20lb sandbag in my other hand was not fun. I like the compact nature of these folding modifiers and ability to retain the beauty dish light quality. Definitely going to be worth the investment for me.
I still like the traditional beauty dish, and in a studio location, it is ideal. The only down side is if the mount for your strobe is not great, or you are working with weaker stands or booms, the weight could be an issue. But the minute you leave the space of the studio, it becomes a real pain to transport. What brand are you looking to purchase Greg?
@@PhotoKitchen425 Either a speedring mount portable beauty dish or the Godox/3rd Party Ad-S7 which mounts directly to the AD200 barebulb. The AD-S7 collapses down more than the large speedring hexapop type softbox/beauty dishes.
Fantastic, keep us posted on how you like it@@blackdiamondgreg !
Many thanks for this great video.
I have the NEEWER softbox and beauty dish.
GOD bless you.

Simple answer. Mola makes by far the best BDs
Thanks for watching.
The traditional beauty dish is used for group shots and full body shots a ton now. Lots of photographers don't only use them for Beauty headshots but for a host of other things like swimwear photography and other forms of portraiture. Also, I will never use rod assembly modifiers in life again. On location, rods are not time friendly and are just extremely annoying.

Great info! Can I use that Impact with an AD200?
You would need a Speedlight bracket to the AD200 could mount to a normal speed ring, but yet, it would work.
Can you review Bowens mount beauty dishes?
Great question. Outside of the Profoto OCF beauty dish, all of these dishes are generic and can fit/adapt to Bowens mount. I think if you are not traveling, a metal beauty dish is great, and for value the Impact is hard to beat. Chimera is pricey, but probably going to last the longest in a travel situation.
@@PhotoKitchen425 I’m not quite sure if that’s going to work. I’m using a PCB Einstein and I’m already using an adapter for that light to go onto a Bowens mount.
Three of these dishes are generic, so you would go with any of the three and get them in a Bowens mount, or even go back to a PCB mount @@quanishamoody7770 .
@@quanishamoody7770 Many of the generic beauty dishes and soft box speed rings take 'inserts' (6" standard). You are likely using one right now, which you call your adapter. But look up inserts and understand that whatever generic mount or speed ring you use there should be a Bowens option.
Have you tried the wescotts?
Nice1!! Get to the top fast = P-R-O-M-O-S-M !
You know it!
