- In this Transfer at Istanbul Airport video we take you with us through the new Istanbul International Airport in Türkiye - Turkey - and show you what our Transfer experience was like. If you have a Transfer / Transit at Istanbul Airport please bare in mind that your airport transfer experience may not be the same transfer / transit experience as ours. We had just arrived from Cape Town, South Africa on a Turkish Airlines flight and had to make our way through Istanbul International Airport to the Gate of our next flight which was to Copenhagen, Denmark also with Turkish Airlines. This transfer video will give you an idea how long a walk could be from Gate to Gate. Along the way we also show you arrival points such as where the Passport Control / Immigration is if you are exiting the airport and for those who have a Transfer we show the location of Security Control.
The New Istanbul Airport is located in Turkey and the Airport Code is: IST
Wiki writes about the New Istanbul International Airport, "Istanbul Airport (IATA: IST, ICAO: LTFM) (Turkish: İstanbul Havalimanı) is the main international airport serving Istanbul, Turkey. It is located in the Arnavutköy district on the European side of the city. All scheduled commercial passenger flights were transferred from Istanbul Atatürk Airport to Istanbul Airport on April 6, 2019, following the closure of Istanbul Atatürk Airport for scheduled passenger flights. The IATA airport code IST was also transferred to the new airport Once all phases are completed in 2025, the airport will be able to accommodate 200 million passengers a year.

I am south african ( From Johannesburg ) and i am flying on turkish airlines every time, since 2000 i have been flying on turkish and i love the service, But quite tired after a long haul flight
Thank you, guys. Yesterday, I remembered you, ihihi. I arrived in Istanbul at 6:35 a.m. and had a flight at 7:20 a.m. I managed to get to the boarding gate at 7:00 a.m., but I was running like an idiot in the Istanbul airport.
Did you make it?
@@starlsma2000 yes i did
Omg I also have only 1 hour on the way back to my country, and it’s my first time I’m so afraid of loosing myself in the huge airport and not to find my gate and miss my airplane 😢 I have to run and be quick as much as I can this rush makes me even more anxious 😥
"Lol, people, the airport may be big, but you can't get lost there. Just relax."
@aytenzeynalova5105 okay so 1 hour isn't a lot of time but it's doable, you just have to run and not roam around
The best video about transfers in IST! Thank you!
Thank you for this! My elderly mom is flying by herself, I will walk her through this video to calm her nerves 🙏
Am so glad that i come across your CZcams videos,i loooove to watch them its so relaxing.I never travelled before internationally or over the borders your videos are amazing to watch.
We are flying from Cape Town to Austria via Turkish Airlines and Istanbul. Thank you for this. :)
This video will help many travellers, those who are new to this airport. Thanks
Thank you Maxi and Maro for this info. I will be travelling with Turkish Airlines from the UK to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia via Istanbul airport in October. As I am an amputee your video has inspired me to now request assistance. I had no idea of the walking distance involved. Thank goodness I am a subscriber of your channel.
Thanks for filming the connecting flight and arrivals in Istanbul. 9:32, even though you pass the arrivals on the left, I am flying to Istanbul this summer for vacation.
just love these walks with you greetings from the netherlands
Note: Turkey follows a safe/secure country system for international to international airport transfers. For example, if you fly from Poland, Finland or Austria, (all of Europe really, not just the EU) Japan, So. Korea, or Canada to Istanbul to connect to a flight to Mexico, Germany or Spain then you will NOT have to go through security in Istanbul, leave the plane and go into the main terminal to catch your next flight. The only check is coming off the plane a person is there to see if you have an onward ticket/boarding pass. Coming from South Africa and other designated non-secure countries you will have to go through security (not customs or immigration) at IST before making your international connection. Few know this and unfortunately this aspect is not well publicized.
good to know there are no controls
I was here 3 months back. My layover to Newark , USA... Dey had 5 times security check ups bfr boarding flights to usa. Somehow am not happy with der aircrafts , totally cramped up seats from istanbul to newark, newjersy. My 1st nd last fly by this airlines.
I will go from one European country to another with turkish airlines. Will the transit be shorter? It is one ticket and the luggages are not self transit.
We arrive from Oslo, Norway, with our flight at 19.20. Istanbul is just a stopping place. We will continue our journey from Istanbul to Dubai at 20.40 with another flight number. We are short on time wondering if we need to check in again when we land in Istanbul or if we can go directly to the plane without checking in again.
@@oscarforstrnen4493 Bad. Will never go back. The flight was over an hour late. We didn't make it to the next flight. We tried to get help but just ended up standing in line for many hours. Totally incompetent staff. Couldn't help us at all. Would not recommend anyone to go to this airport. We had to fix a new plane on our own. We also had to stop over at another place in the north of Turkey on the border with Georgia to get to our destination. Totally incompetent staff. When getting our boarding pass my friends pass got stuck in the machine. The staff did not want to help. We were wery lucky and got help from another person who also had lost his flight.
That's a really long transfer walk, the airport is so huge. Enjoyed watching the transfer walk. Have a good rest of your day.
It was long! Glad you enjoyed the vid :-D Have a nice Sunday :-D
Very informative and straight to point. Saving it for offline viewing as I’ll be making transfer for Amsterdam in abt two weeks from Pakistan

This is super helpful! We are coming from Australia via Kuala Lumpur via Istanbul Airport to Copenhagen and feeling a little overwhelmed! Thanks so much!
Thank you maxi your video help me for my trip on October. thank you. GOD Bless you both
Great content. Thanks for the help.
Thank you for sharing this video
Thank you for this very helpful video, your effort is appreciated
Thank you for this video.
First time in istanbul airport on coming friday and this video was sooooo helpfull showing how to find the way to transfere gates😊👍
Thank you for the video, your flight from South Africa (a country considered unsafe) required you to go through security a second time for this international transit in Istanbul.
But I specify that in general when you make an international transit during your stopover in Istanbul, it is not necessary to go through security because you do not leave the international zone of the airport.
Good loving your videos
this video helped a lot I was in a rush to catch a connection and this video helped me a lot thanks for this info you are a life saver
Happy to hear that our video helped you out! Thanks for watching and for taking the time to let us know it helped you :-D

I was here yesterday for a 2 hour layover and watching this video before travelling helped me A LOT to catch up to my next flight. 2 hours was almost not enough to get through it all and imagine if i didn't watch your videos :< THANKS FOR THIS AND ALWAYS KEEP SAFE DURING YOUR TRAVELS.
Hi, Did you need a transit visa or stamp for your layover in Istanbul of your connecting flight?
@@shinnohara22113 they just scanned our boarding pass before going through security in international transfers. I have a schengen visa
@@shinnohara22113 No, if you stay less than 24 hours. good luck
Hello, how long it took you the Turkish security check?
@@katherine1318 it was fast because i was not wearing any belt or anything that i have to take off. plus, there were only a few people when i got there because it was at dawn. finding the security is the one that will take all your time and finding your boarding gate
have two days looking for a video of Istanbul transit.

Very helpful. Thanks'!
Gølad to hear that, you are welcome! :-D
Hi Maxi and Maro. We were wondering if we will make it to your video . Sure we did. We wanted to say hi but you were busy making a video so we did not want to disturb. Hope to see you again somewhere ✈
Give a big thumbs up for maro and maxi
Going from HK to Scotland with a 7.5 hr layover in Istanbul 😅 certainly looks like there’s loads going on in the airport so I probably won’t be bored. Altho lack of seating is a big ooft, need to keep an eye out for that. Thank yous so much :))
Can I ask you something? I have a transit of 5.5 hours and I was planning on meeting someone in Turkey there during my transit. So during that transit I’m planning to go outside of the airport. Is this possible? (I’m not talking about a visa, I have a Turkish ID alr, but rules, regulation and time-wise? And how much time do you think I need, to go to my transfer second flight all the way outside from the airport. How many hours is enough do you think?
Wow have to travel so much
Wonderful airport. Thank you, Turkiye.
I been that airport 6 times but last two was great , one flying to Indonesia other to flying Thailand from USA , 6 hour layover was best time i ever had in any airport in the world. Food and drinks was delicious but not only that I took a shower and rest 3 hours before my next 12 hour fly. (Turkish airways, Miami to Bali)
What a experience ❤
I love your videos ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching and thanks for sharing your experiences and opinions :-D Also thank you for your kind words, lovely to hear that you enjoy our videos :-D
Thank you very much for this content. It's my first time traveling soon. I would like to know how long it takes before gate numbers are announced. Given a layover time of 8hrs?
Thanks for the great video. Do you always have to walk all the way to passport control? What if you already have your boarding pass and your departure gate is only a few gates away from your arrival gate?
Thank you so much
I loved it
Thanks a lot
both of you are so cute!
I like your video you are very good learn how to traville
Great videos guy🎉❤and do you mind me asking how long did the whole process take from getting off the flight to the gate?
Wonderful Airport
It is nice but distance can be too far for some connection flight walks.
Big walk 🙏😴
Thanks for the video.
And i have a question please..during the transfer, did the security check your passport and put a stamp or not .and how long it took you to pass the security? Thanks
Thanks so much for sharing this video! It’s really helpful! By the way, what’s the duration of the layover between your connecting flights? Thanks again! Cheers!
Hello, first of all I liked the video... is the buffet open even in the early morning or is everything closed or is there at least one open thing... even drink machines or snacks?
Thanks for your video. I have a question. When transferring to another flight and going through security to your next flight must you remove your electronic devices from your carry-on? Thank you.
I want to know that the luggage which is in the aft of the plane is it transfer directly to other plane in the connecting flight?
Great
Thanks
How many hours or weeks was the walk? A few years ago there was a bomb at this airport. I believe it was still in the old wing.
Anyone know how long the trip through security typically takes? I do understand it can vary
Big thanks for maxi and maro
I am flying there from America for a connecting flight to Italy. I do not have to go through passport control right? Just normal security since I’m not staying in Turkey
Hello maxi and maro, i have 2.5 hours of transit between two flights. My last flight would be to DC. Is 2.5 hours good enough or will it be a rush as a first time international traveller
What was the process through security i saw a kiosk do you have to scan your passport
If you are doing the tour instanbul tour do you still go through international transfers?
This is huge airport. Seems there is no terminal 1,2,3 and so forth. All in one building I supposed? Is transit visa needed in connecting flights in Istanbul?
why at 13.00 thereare two columns abcd left , def right ? where is D ? left or right ? than you
How long did it take to go through security at Istanbul airport?
Both my inbound to Turkey flight and my connecting flight are with Turkish, will my baggage be automatically transferred? Layover is 2 hours 15 mins
If any transist visa required for connection flightd
Thanks for this kind of reviews Istanbul is now one of main places for layovers for long haul flights. And this is new airport now Sabiha Gokcen, am I right?
Compared to Istanbul airport Sabiha Gökçen is tiny.
Is all connecting flight at the same location ?
Did security have a kiosk to scan passports or did they just search bags and view passport
How long it take yall to get through security chk again
I have 1 hour 50 minute until my next flight if everything goes well. Do you think is doable ?
А где в вашем видео (с какой минуты и секунды) заканчивается зона прилёта,начинается транзитная зона и начинается зона вылета?
Hi there,
Awesome discussion and precise. Hence we usually fly with American, Delta, Qatar, and/or Singapore Airlines from Chicago to outbound; nevertheless, how is service levels of Turkish Airlines? We're planning with the Turkish for the first time coming months. Are they on time? Therefore, we don't have to worry our connection within an hour and half. Thank you in advance.
The people I know who took Turkish Airlines were happy .
How were your flight with Turkish airlines? We are also flying with this airline in the next few months. Thank you in advance
I hope maro and maxi going to singapore in the future by turkeys airlines from copenhengen to singapore via istanbul
Nice and useful video mate! Long time I have not done transfer, I am travelling back from Tbilisi to Istanbul, 1 and half hour layover to transfer from Istanbul to London stansted , both flights by pegasus airlines. hope I can catch my second flight within 1 and half hour, no check in bag just cabin baggage, I will follow same way u did. Any advice much appreciated mate
Hi, did you catch your flight?
I always find it hard to know which security check i need to go through as they have many and it’s random about which one you need to go through.
What if you are flying to Thailand and don’t have a ticket for that flight, so you need to go through customs?
What about wifi connectivity. I am told it's not good.
My flight next flight after 65 minutes on istanbul i am afraid that i ca make it or not ?? As i checked my next flight gate changes everyday. i saw you walk so long
Hi! I’m traveling US to Barcelona. Stopover in turkey. Do I need a transit visa?

Hi I'm flying from Germany to Russia. My journey is like Stuttgart - Istanbul - Antalya - Moscow. There are 2 layovers in Turkey, so I guess one flight is domestic right? "Istanbul to Antalya" but all my flights are in the same ticket. Same PNR and I'll get my luggage directly in Moscow. Do I need Transit Visa for that? Please reply.
How long was your layover
