  • It may seem like there isn’t a lot going on in a baby’s brain. But as we continue to study them and our relationship with them, we begin to understand more about the complexities behind those big eyes, and this compilation takes a look at some of what we’ve learned.

Thank you SOOO much for talking about bilingual babies! I'm currently pregnant with my first child, and my husband and I have been going back and forth on whether to raise him speaking only English or Japanese and English. Everyone keeps telling us that our baby will get so behind learning 2 languages, but I feel much better about raising him bilingual now! (It helps that we're planning on moving to Japan in a few years, so we know Japanese will be a must at some point.)

You'll be fine. I grew up learning 3 languages, first two languages we use interchangeably at home and the third one is what I usually hear on the tv which I also had to learn in school. Thinking back about it, it wasn't difficult at all, maybe only with the third language that my accent is not that good. :D

Oh yeah? Have you posted on social media about how your child ALWAYS comes first no matter what yet? or have you posted at least a few dozen times a day making sure every one mentions you being a mom and how you're so protective of your baby? If not then you're not a mom

I'm glad I was raised bilingual.
It certainly feels to me like I can understand other languages more easily.
More importantly I pity those who aren't able to talk properly with an entire half of their family.
Ironically I developed a far more strongly relationship with the half of my family who live abroad and I only see once a year on average.

    • @crybebebunny
      @crybebebunny Před 3 lety +1

Maybe you know the one's who live nearby. The one's who live aboard are on a party time when you are there.
My children are very happy not to know our other language because it keeps some family away from bringing Drama into their lives. They do want to get fluently without the family knowing because it would help them with work.

The study about new dads having their brains change to be less active in daydreaming reminds me of a study I heard about in my psych 101 course in college. That found that people do not (as commonly believed) become more conservative with age, but rather tend to gradually shift leftwards but then rapidly shift towards the right whenever they become parents or grandparent to more children.

Love it all with the Fog. It would be nice if they did a study on the brain Fog and later Fog Brain there might be a correlation. I also think that the lack of sleep and being altered 24 hours a day affects your sleep after multiple children later on in life. Myself sleep hasn't been the same since I gave birth to my now 27 year old and I only had 4 children, breastfeeded for about a total of 7 years 2 months.

Who'd a guessed we rarely do things naturally that are pointless and that baby talk would help kids learn to speak quicker and better. Might not be a evolutionary thing but it's definitely a cultural thing that's become the norm as we've seen it working. We might not know it's why we are doing it but common things are common for a reason.

Lol “Mom Brain” aka Memory Loss may simply be due to the lack of Sleep, anxiety, the adjustment to being a Mother and the level of supportive environment the Mother is in to raise the child (single, married, grandparents assist). Race, culture, family upbringing, first time mom, finance, education, the age of the Mother, hormone, emotion, and nutrition are also important factors.

Nice visualizations, like around 13:05 where brain regions are color coded to their names, and dotted lines indicate if a region is buried deep inside rather than on the outer surface of the cortex. Somebody put real effort into making those choices, it is appreciated.

When people say "baby talk is bad for babies," they don't mean the sing songy voice, or short cuts in grammar... they mean pronouncing things incorrectly like pronouncing "L" like "W" or speaking with a fake lisp or fake speech impediment (except for stuttering) as they will imitate them and could require speech therapy later on. There are other reasons kids may need speech therapy, but this one is an avoidable reason. But to be clear, that doesn't mean their parents are bad parents for doing it and should not be shamed for it as they are still providing positive emotional intelligence to their children which is so much better than not interacting with or talking them at all. So wove vose cute wittel babies!!!! 🥰

When my children were infants I treated them as if they were adults and explained things as I did them. My son and daughter could count to 10 and say their ABC's by the age of 2. They excel in school but our school system is corrupting their thoughts on education. It needs to be changed in a good way and shouldn't be second to everything else when it comes to funding. The education of our children will dictate our future.

Okay, so I thought I was going crazy, but this video appears to prove that I wasn't. I add videos to my "Watch Later" list so I can watch when it's convenient for me. But I don't like compilation videos, because I've already seen the content. So I don't add the videos that say "Compilation" to my watch list. And yet somehow compilation videos sometimes end up on my watch list. This video is a compilation, but doesn't say so in the title... but may get updated later. At least I know I'm not imagining things!

@@BadlandSurvivor Yep! And now they've done so, adding the word Compilation to the video title. I have to wonder if they're being purposely deceptive to get more people to watch the video on the day that it launches, only adjusting the name after 24 hours. Because this happens far too often to be a coincidence or accident. :(
