      Yes, journalists should get both sides' statements, but they shouldn't just parrot the loudest people. There is an objective reality, not just two opinions. Both opinions have agendas and blind spots, and most issues have far more than two sides, despite what our two party system would have you believe. For example, if I'm trying to design a building, I wouldn't just talk to two random people. I'd talk to a few architects and engineers, then check their math.
      They should talk to both sides, then also say "this person claimed this, here's what the available evidence says for or against. Also, here's what we still don't know."

      I think it's because they never have to form coliations. If two or more parties form a coalition, they spend the fist weeks hammering out compromised proposals between each parties legestion they plan on implementing that term before they even officially form. This means they all must have a concrete manifesto going into the elections, otherwise you would not to form the majority not knowing what the other party in charge will or will not do.
      Our fringe parties campaign like democrats and rupublicans in the US, so sometimes their nonsense gets voted in, but it's never for long or they are not even able to form a coalition, though they are the majority because no other party will form a government with them. The system keeps the far left and far right out of power.

      @timogul Před měsícem +13

      This is because of the electoral college, and some states are trying to change this, but it would be tricky. Actually removing the electoral college would require a Constitutional amendment, which is a nightmare to achieve these days. The other option is to bypass the EC, by having states just decide for themselves to allocate votes according to the popular vote, but that would require a majority of states to agree to do that, and that too can be tricky, especially since they can't all be on one side. Republicans like the EC, because it gives them a higher chance of victory than they would have otherwise, so it's very unlikely that any red states will go along with any change to it.

    • @fos1451

    • @timogul
      @timogul Před měsícem +3

      @@fos1451 It's actually already been done by some states. The solution there is to have "trigger laws," ones which do absolutely nothing, _until_ certain conditions are met, and then they work. So in this case, you pass a law that says "when a certain number of states pass laws that do the same thing, all our EC votes go to the winner of the popular vote." That way, they wouldn't hurt anything until it would actually work. But again, the issue is that you still need to reach that critical mass of states that it would not flip the outcomes, and I don't think we're close to that yet. I think it's unlikely we will be, because the holdouts benefit from the broken system.

Gas is expensive, and their commute to work is far. Many of them are hard blue collar workers just like myself. Gas prices affect them hard. Many of them are not making bank, just enough to be middle class, but what does that even mean in today's America? You see I respect their work ethic, and their passion. They are being ignored by everyone. I'd say I have a lot in common with them, but sadly its hard to build that bridge when any time I speak I get accused of being a radical leftist. I stand in solidarity with my fellow workers being exploited by a system which treats anyone like a cog in a grinding machine instead of people with families. Many of these start their own business but then find grueling taxes and regulations unfairly eat at their ability to live or even pay their employees fairly. Because our government both local, state, and federal, doesn't really distinguish between a small family owned start up and a mega corporation, except when it does it favors the larger monopolies because we live in a plutocracy. We talk past each other on issues, but class solidarity, our resentment at the fact that our country doesn't invest in us or believe in us but will readily bail out wall st, can unite us as people. I can understand the anger at the government sending aid to Ukraine when people are struggling to pay bills which just keep increasing and the cost of everything is higher now than a few years back. Rural folk commonly attribute this to inflation and Biden because well Fox News said so and the rest of the media is fake and lying. But when you take the time and treat people like people and have a civil conversation you find you can make a lot of connections. I am by what a lot of people call a socialist, but I also work 40+ hours a week with my hands, deal with customers, and am driven by wanting my labor to not be exploited to make some fat cat wealthy while I am doing 90% of the work. But I don’t think people are realistic about what that truly is going to take, it’s not going to take a single president to come in and try and disrupt the process, nah that just gets everyone side tracked on trying to prove the election was stolen, or trying to find a way to boot Trump if your a democrat instead of working on issues that the people want fixed. What it’s truly going to take is a party that is focused and unified that has the same goal and stays that way for many years, produces candidates that have similar agendas and won’t tear down pieces of legislation other presidents have made. I mean it will take at least one of the parties completely working together top to bottom for over a decade for all those issues she stated to actually start moving in the right way.

    I'm a mostly life long Republican, but simply can't vote for the Trump. We are so lost as a party. Being a Republican to me is about smaller government, lower tax rates at most levels and letting local and state governments actually work. When did being conservative mean we had to hate Americans of other colors, sound scared of different sexual orientations and shout so much nonsense about fraud that is doesn't even sound logical??

      Trump's populism and isolationism have really killed the Republican party. They veto their own bills, and now regularly vote against immigration bills, border bills backed by Customs and Border Patrol, and tax cuts for the working man-- not to mention repeated dismissals of the Constitution and verifiably false claims of voter fraud, and the attempts to rig the last election in Trump's favor via the elector plot. Plus, anyone who doesn't rigorously agree with the party line is labeled a RINO and shunned. It's wild how anyone thinks they can function as a government if they get the presidency.

      Well, the way I look at it is there were no wars, trying to control borders compared to now. I had oil at $1,51 in 2019. Inflation at 2% compared to 15% now. Women were women and men were men. People knew what a women was. People were changing their children's sex by cutting or chemically castrating boys and girls. Among a lot more of the garbage being spewed. All the people once again saying our democracy is at risk are the same people trying to censor us, trying to take people's guns, arresting pro-life believers while their clinics are being vandalized and or burnt. So what is a better environment? Before or now? I see it as an easy decision. Wish you the best.😊

      Looking at the recent polling I think it will be the rust belt. Honestly, at this point I wouldn’t be shocked if Trump won Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania, Biden is just so unpopular.
