- Dr. Ruth Westheimer, known for her work as a sex guru and talk show host, has died. She was 96. A survivor of the Holocaust, Westheimer moved to America after World War II, bringing a surprisingly cheerful approach to life, and later, sex education, becoming one of the most outspoken voices in spreading sexual literacy across the country.
I was so fascinated listening to Dr. Ruth’s syndicated radio show in the 1980s that I decided to pursue a career as a mental health professional. I have been dreading this news. God bless her!
My daughter met her at University of Rhode Island in 2003 and had a picture taken with her. Quite an honor to meet such a courageous woman.

I had an English teacher in high school who was a member of the OSS. She was a tiny little lady like Dr. Westheimer and was a spy!

I remember her as Dr. Ruth Wordheimer, a parody of her therapist role, in the PBS children’s television series Between the Lions, in which she helped anxious spellers and readers with their fear of long words (such as “intelligent”, “enchanting” and “unbeatable”, to name a few), and also helped words who were currently dissatisfied with their current meaning to change (such as changing “stop” to “hop” and “testy” to “zesty”), thus giving the words a new lease on life. 📖

Dr. Ruth and Richard Simmons, both have past days apart. Both were some of the most positive encouraging celebrities for many years. Their encouragement will be missed. May they rest in peace.

I used to sing for her all the time with my choir and she was at my college graduation brunch because her granddaughter was in my class! I almost forgot how famous she was. She was so lovely I’m so sad she’s passed 😢

I remembered her once. My kids use to watch reruns of Between The Lions at The Academy of Autism. But she teach me some 4-synonym words that she teach in the show. But years later,
it fufilled my destiny, with love. she was a therapist type a person. Thanks Dr. Ruth for sharing

A wonderful human being and a life well lived to help others.
We used to listen to her Sunday night radio shows as teenagers in the 80s.
She made such an impact on me when I was young. She is the reason that I have such a healthy outlook when it comes to sex. She was so open about it. She made me realize how good it is to talk about sex which is such a big part of being human. she really took the shame out of it. I am so sorry she is gone, we need more people like her.

I love how she said on CBS Sunday Morning that she always said something to the effect of:”in the midst of growing up during a time of so much death, I decided to teach about life”. She also recalled how one of her first acts of kindness was to give up her only doll to a girl on the same cattle car as her.
She was so adorable and funny. Her laugh always made me chuckle 😂

I was at a sporting event and I heard a familiar voice. I turned around and saw it was in fact Dr. Ruth and I said hello. She was the same happy, smiling person you always see in the media. I loved her positive attitude, and positive attitude about sex.
