To each their own but to students I suggest android and windows devices if looking for flexibility and better compatibility with all sorts of devices instead of getting stuck in Apple's ecosystem. All companies want your money but apple is on a different level. I suggest not falling into it and going for something reasonable, research, know about your needs and spend smart not blindly. Apple macbooks are still a viable options for people who have specific use cases but for most other options may be more bang for your buck.
