I think the guy was annoyed by Foxx trying to be this MTV hit maker while also trying to win an oscar and sell out comedy clubs. Like an R&B Jim Carrey or Will Smith. He isn't THAT popular and hadn't made any big hit movies to warrant such overexposure at the time.
jamie foxx and tom cruise were AMAZING in collateral. I had to watch it for a film studies class, now its one of my favorite action movies. Along side Kingsmen
He did an amazing job playing Ray. Kevin Smith made a decent point on the show once though, how he differentiates between someone who brilliantly reenacts a figure like Phillip Seymour Hoffman did Capote versus an actor who takes a role of an original character on paper and makes them their own. Where Jamie Foxx falls is arguable because I think he's a good actor but not a great one aside from Ray.

Comedians are great actors, in my book, because they all have great range . Comedians do impressions and make fun of people, so you see them take on whole new personas in movies. But look at Jamie Fox in Collateral compared to Django compared to The Soloist. Or even look at his role in Jar Head. These are all convincing, very different people.
