- George Carlin talks about getting busted with Lenny Bruce at his infamous Gate of Horn gig in Chicago in December 1962. From an interview recorded by Ron Collins and David Skover, authors of The Trials of Lenny Bruce, as well as audio of the bust itself (audio and photos included in the 10th Anniversary Edition enhanced ebook).
- Komedie
Lenny and George made it possible for humor as it is today to exist.
Not really.
@@IDONTLIKETHATSHIT if he’s wrong… why are they still so influential? These guys and Pryor. Most famous comedians today … so similar in so many ways.. you can chart it with a pen
@@patrickbyrne5070 Who ever wrote that comment is stating an opinion, not a fact.
Agreed
@@patrickbyrne5070 they arent influential anymore, bruces comedy was ground breaking when he did it sure- but it is hop[elessly dated and unfunny now, its of its time / topical- ya have to be au fait with moral standards of the 50s and race relations back then etc,
" I don't believe in I.D.'s" Mr. Bruce and Mr.Carlin are two mavericks.
When the term 'standing on the shoulders of giants gets used' in regards to comedy... Lenny and George are those giants.
Grandmasters
Both of these guys are heros for pointing out whats wrong with society. It's mosty the bad people who are offended by their jokes and that's fine by me .
It is in the Albert Goldman book: Ladies and Gentlemen-Lenny Bruce!
Most of what we owe to modern day standup goes to lenny bruce
well Lenny was older than George who probably ended up benefiting from the sh!te Lenny Bruce was put through from the authorities
Trailblazing fools; God, love them! So very intellectually attuned, yet delivered truth in its tragic vulgarity. I admire their courage & bravery. RIP 🙏 Comrades!
the 2 best comics of all times dont sweat the bs
bill hicks tho

Sorry but it’s Bruce, bill then George no offense
martin simmons bill? Orly? @_@
@@martykunte Sorry, but it's Bruce, George, and then Richard. Bill isn't even in the same league as these Titans of Comedy, who are more important in the history of stand-up comedy and the most influential comedians of all time. Feel shamed.
and we remember you as a king, the cop, no comment.
Actually, what the cop said was, "show me your id," but Carlin's ego wouldn't allow it.
The sign said "No ID, No Beer". Somebody wrote under that "Too much beer, no superego"
that doesn't really make much sense to me.
Carlin here says he doesn't remember if Lenny was in the wagon with him and yet in his last book which was written several years after this interview,
he specificaly says that Lenny was with him and that he even taught him a neat trick on how to bring his handcuffed hands in front of his body.
Val Greagoir it didn't matter nearly as much later, everyone close to Lenny was old or gone
I used to bring the cuffs up front by bringing them under my feet.
Drugs
He says he doesn’t remember if he was in the wagon but then that he must have been because Lenny asked him why he was busted, so he definitely remembers talking to Lenny during the whole thing but not whether that part of the conversation was in the van. I’m sure they got booked together, etc
lol guys after 9 years I have to tell you this important fact, he was absolutely smashed, I would hardly remember if I was drunk myself
Masters of the craft...
Legendary
Heroic, george and lenny , to great!! Rob.
A Catholic and a Jew walk into a bar...
lol now that could have been a good joke
And the barman said "Is this some kind of joke?"
pike606, how do you specifically not mention someone? That makes no sense
He "didn't remember" if Lenny Bruce was in the paddy wagon with him?
@@chimpiki With all due respect - if I had been in the same vehicle with Lenny Bruce - I would have remembered it - no matter what.
@@alainjames9556 Yeah well you aren't George Carlin (:
It’s George Carlin. He was wasted through the back half of the 60s and all through the 70s.
Carlin and Bruce. Geniuses
Biggest cannonballs to hit conformism in the face before the Summer of Love
Who is Vince?
Vince Lombardo
Bruce specifically does not mention Mr. Carlin in his tell-all 'Memoires'.
didn't he dies in 66?
+Hiếu Tô Lenny was dead before Carlin made it big
Carlin road on the coattails of Lenny Bruce they where only contemporaries for a very short time

Not everything recorded through history was recorded on video shit head.
yeah, shit head
bruh they didn't have iphones back then relax
Gregg Guftelt ...
is the 'new' Lenny Bruce ...
ew no
There is no "new" Lenny Bruce. Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, Richard Pryor and Buddy Hackett, IMO, are each, in their own way, one of a kind comedians. They are my Mount Rushmore of comedians, and it would have never happened if Lenny didn't stand up and start it. Carlin, Hackett, and to a smaller extent, Pryor have all said at some point that Lenny Bruce showed the way, and they went with him. He was a true genius, and took the first steps to opening the kind of freedom that was, for so many years, denied on the stage. The world owes him a debt of gratitude.
The Gate of Horn audio is from the actual Lenny Bruce performance/bust in December 1962. The George Carlin commentary audio, however, is from an interview with the authors of The Trials of Lenny Bruce recorded in 2001.
