Can you believe it, I was there! What a joy it was, I even met with Gert & Marjolein in person. What an evening it was. A joy to see, a pleasure to hear an a gift from The Highest that I may live in the same era as Gert.
I thought I’d listen to some relaxing organ music before going to bed. Well, that didn’t work. This would wake up the dead. Astonishing and wonderful.
If there was any dust in any of the pipes..... not anymore. Gifted musician.
Incomparable; there is only one Gert.
Breathtaking. Even a run-of-the-mill piece without much interest outside the fair or the parade ground becomes a minor masterpiece when re-interpreted for the organ and with you playing it. Brilliant!

Dank je Gert voor deze mooie improvisatie van "U zij de glorie"! Het werd gezongen op onze trouwdag, bij de begrafenissen van mijn ouders en bij de uitvaart van mijn te vroeg gestorven lief hier in Frankrijk. De liturgie was tweetalig, en ik had gedacht dat de Fransen het "A Toi la Gloire" ook zouden meezingen. Maar nee, ze kenden het hier niet. Het "U zij de Glorie" klonk schitterend door de middeleeuwse Franse kerk en het verwarmt mij nu nog steeds als ik het hoor! Naderhand heeft het kerkkoor het opgenomen in haar repertoire!

Generally I very much appreciate Gert's art. This improvisation was definitely lifely and energetic, but I had the feeling that something was starting to chase Gert through this improvisation.

Gaaf en uit het hoofd! Speel zelf nu 3 maanden. Maar de stukken die ik uit folk Dean 1 en 2 gespeeld heb ken ik niet uit m'n hoofd zegmaar😂
Als t tegenzit met boek 3 ga ik meestal naar jou of andere organisten luisteren en dan komt de vastberadenheid weer terug om toch door te gaan.
Houd vol, en ga door!
Ha Joost, na 3 maanden al 2 boeken uit is top! Gewoon doorgaan. Weet je wat werkt om uit je hoofd te spelen? Gewoon je boek dicht laten en gaan spelen.
Over Folk Dean (Ettema was zijn echte naam): heeft heel veel leuke werkjes geschreven, verzameld in een groot aantal bundeltjes. Omdat de meeste werkjes heel goed werkmateriaal zijn voor beginners, gebruik ik ze voor mijn leerlingen standaard voor het eerste studiejaar en ook daarna nog wel. Sommigen halen hun neus op voor Folk Dean maar hij heeft toch echt veel leuk (en pedagogische zeer goed bruikbaar /verantwoord studiemateriaal) geschreven. Overigens gebruik ik de bundeltjes niet van het rijtje af maar heb ik voor mijn leerlingen een paar nieuwe compilaties gemaakt als (leuk) studiemateriaal voor de eerste jaren. Ik gebruik deze compilaties al jaren met veel plezier naast uiteraard ook anderere schrijvers zoals Carroll. Mijn stelling is: als de leerling mijn compilaties goed kan spelen heeft deze geen les meer nodig (maar studeren zal altijd nodig blijven).
