As a Japanese, children have always been present in our McDoanlds ads. They added kids in this ad as well because CHILDREN are ALSO part of the target audience of McDoandls! Who could’ve known!

Children have always been the chief target audience for McDonalds, in Japan and elsewhere: as a kid, every time we went to McDonalds or Burger King for a meal, it was because my sister and I bugged our parents to go until they gave in ^^

I’m sorry you have to deal with Western people being idiots.
As a Latina, same, our ads have always had kids/families in them. And as someone who has lived in the US for a while, most ads USED to have kids/families. Now, the gringo ads are Hella weird, and they make me want to not buy their products because they’re so disgusting. (Dove, for example, having someone who is 58493939 lbs advertising the product, I don’t want to think of someone who can’t bathe themselves and smells because they allowed themselves to get too fat when I buy soap. I want to think of someone who is clean, like I want to be when I buy *soap.* I also did not ask Dove’s opinion on video game women, nor do I care about it outside of gatekeeping these cringe corpos from where they don’t belong, so they don’t ruin fandom even more than it has been/I don’t want to play as ugly characters, that’s depressing LOL. Meanwhile, the guys get to play as hot characters just because some women’s egos are so insecure they can’t look at attractive pixels on a screen without getting triggered, yeah no thanks.)
I also think it’s hilarious that mostly Americans didn’t think the mum was a mum only because their women become yetis after they get married. In most of the world, women still look after themselves after marriage, and so do men. Only Americans are very sloppy and they still complain about “beauty standards” when the bar is on the floor for them. 💀💀💀
I know this channel is obviously leftist because it’s very evident this person doesn’t want to call out the Twitter weirdos, or say the truth about this ad not making anyone who is sane angry. Most people had a positive view of it, or just didn’t care, very few had a negative view. To call it controversial after something like Dylan Mulvaney’s Bud Light “ad,” where they talked down their entire audience and pretended to be better than them when they’re worse [most people probably would’ve been nicer about that ad if Dylan had treated them kindly to begin with], or even Dove’s recent “campaign” to have obese women in video games, which literally no one asked for btw, least of all other women - being a hot/cute character is fun, being an ugly one is decidedly not - and they know this, since they don’t allow fat/ugly men in video games and refer to husbandos like Genshin men as “boy toys,” being complete hypocrites.
THOSE are controversies, because they caused boycotts and in Mulvaney’s case, an entire legacy toppled literally overnight. This McDonald’s ad on the other hand is cute, charming, and made most people happy. The only ones who were unhappy are those who are unhappy anyway, so no one cares what they think because, generally speaking, they don’t.

There's been growing western sentiment that having kids isn't a good thing. Many say it sacrifices your own personal desires and freedoms, others say that they simply don't want to bring kids into a world that they see as horrible and dying.
Personally, I think both are selfish and pessimistic. It also dehumanizes children. At the same time its their decision to not have kids. The problem is trying to shame those who do want children and a family and those that don't. Just because I think those acts in themselves are selfish and pessimistic doesn't necessarily the people are too.

Of course, old habits die hard due to power dynamics in corporations (senpai-kohai) and societal expectations to give your life to the company over family.

Japan's issue is actually highly related to it's very strict immigration policies. Normally when a country reaches a certain level of development, people live longer and have fewer children, meaning more elderly people to take care of and fewer young people entering the workforce. Immigration deals with this by allowing people from countries that have an excess of young people seeking work to buoy up the latter and help support the former. There are of course plenty of other factors, but this is a big piece.

Theyre all just projecting their insecurities onto a wholesome commercial showing the life and accomplishments having a family and children which they have yet to get there, some are either single, who live alone, bitter and depressed about such failures or just have a vandana toward married couples with children living the life. A lot of people stem their childhood memories with mcdonald's so I guess they feel attack when they feel they are not longer welcome since they dont fit that wholesome family video.
