There's been growing western sentiment that having kids isn't a good thing. The problem is trying to shame those who do want children and a family and those that don't. The Japanese government has tried to impress on companies to not overwork their employees to death (karoshi) or make them stay in the office for long hours after dark, which is not conducive for starting or raising a family. Of course, old habits die hard due to power dynamics in corporations (senpai-kohai) and societal expectations to give your life to the company over family. Not sure how hard the Japanese government is pushing for helping single moms raising kids, or increasing funding for social programs like paid childcare and parental leave. Probably not a lot, judging by some documentaries I've seen on NHK broadcast TV.

The news has talked about how people have complained about the lack of diversity in the ad, how it's too white and heteronormative. But even that is apparently less than what the media let us understand and those who complain just make a really loud noise and make a fuss over nothing and these annoys even their own.
I thought it was hated for two reasons and warning, both are outlandish. 1. The parents in the ad are actually siblings and therefore promotes incest. I don't know why I thought that, the parents just look like siblings. 2. The artist behind the ad, not McDonalds, has a problematic history that's worth the outrage.
Japan's issue is actually highly related to it's very strict immigration policies. Normally when a country reaches a certain level of development, people live longer and have fewer children, meaning more elderly people to take care of and fewer young people entering the workforce. Immigration deals with this by allowing people from countries that have an excess of young people seeking work to buoy up the latter and help support the former. There are of course plenty of other factors, but this is a big piece.

There's been growing western sentiment that having kids isn't a good thing. Many say it sacrifices your own personal desires and freedoms, others say that they simply don't want to bring kids into a world that they see as horrible and dying.
Personally, I think both are selfish and pessimistic. It also dehumanizes children. At the same time its their decision to not have kids. The problem is trying to shame those who do want children and a family and those that don't. Just because I think those acts in themselves are selfish and pessimistic doesn't necessarily the people are too.

The Japanese government has tried to impress on companies to not overwork their employees to death (karoshi) or make them stay in the office for long hours after dark, which is not conducive for starting or raising a family.
Of course, old habits die hard due to power dynamics in corporations (senpai-kohai) and societal expectations to give your life to the company over family.
Not sure how hard the Japanese government is pushing for helping single moms raising kids, or increasing funding for social programs like paid childcare and parental leave. Probably not a lot, judging by some documentaries I've seen on NHK broadcast TV.
Asking a government like America's or Japan's to do something to make living more affordable is like asking a company to get rid of a repulsive CEO. They'd rather do some dumb quarter-measure to address the issue rather than make the big hard and scary changes that frankly need to happen.

I mean given how many people there are it doesn't matter what something is there will be at least a few people that dislike it. The internet just gives those people a platform and lets other people point at those mostly niche views and create controversy out of it, and that controversy is how some people make money.

The news has talked about how people have complained about the lack of diversity in the ad, how it's too white and heteronormative. But even that is apparently less than what the media let us understand and those who complain just make a really loud noise and make a fuss over nothing and these annoys even their own.

I thought it was hated for two reasons and warning, both are outlandish.
1. The parents in the ad are actually siblings and therefore promotes incest. I don't know why I thought that, the parents just look like siblings.
2. The artist behind the ad, not McDonalds, has a problematic history that's worth the outrage.

Japan's issue is actually highly related to it's very strict immigration policies. Normally when a country reaches a certain level of development, people live longer and have fewer children, meaning more elderly people to take care of and fewer young people entering the workforce. Immigration deals with this by allowing people from countries that have an excess of young people seeking work to buoy up the latter and help support the former. There are of course plenty of other factors, but this is a big piece.

The short answer: they don’t. People started to insist that it was hated but there wasn’t any actual outrage.
Theyre all just projecting their insecurities onto a wholesome commercial showing the life and accomplishments having a family and children which they have yet to get there, some are either single, who live alone, bitter and depressed about such failures or just have a vandana toward married couples with children living the life. A lot of people stem their childhood memories with mcdonald's so I guess they feel attack when they feel they are not longer welcome since they dont fit that wholesome family video.
There ARE people who were mad, but, like, a handful? You have to really dig for them. It's gotten to the point that the complaints ABOUT the complaints have far outnumbered the actual complaints.
