      @@XxpoplocksxX they are smart creatures though, they could be trained to hunt their own food. We had a marine park for about 10yrs that deal seals and dolphins et c for shows in the 80s. When Laws changed about the way they had to be kept, needing larger pools...numbers we're dwindling it was in a small seaside town then and so it closed down. A marina had just opened in the city with a large underwater aquarium so they built these large dolphin pens there...they quarantined the dolphins to get them used to being in the ocean for the first time cos these ones had been bred at the park by then...they slowly trained them to hunt...they would open these pens during the day, allowing them to come and go as they pleased...it was a perfect setup. There is absolutely no reason why they could not do the exact same thing with the Orcas! These big companies have a heck of a.lot more money to do the research needed and build the type of seaside/island pens needed to make this happen, it's just that it would cost them a lot of money without the chance of being able to ever earn any of it back again and there we have the issue! They dont want to spend their precious money on these beautiful creatures if they arent going to be working like slaves in return and paying them back for every cent spent, 10 fold!

      @@XxpoplocksxX shows how little you know about Orca's. The ones that have been tortured and mistreated in captivity will not be able to be released into the open wild (this is what terrible humans are doing to this planet). There is seaside pens that these poor innocent souls can be placed in so at least they would be able to live in the wild and not in an extremely small pen. Put it this way...if an alien came down to earth and wanted to learn about humans would they go see a person in solitary??????? so why would you think it is the best way to learn about Orca's in an extremely tiny cell. So many have died in captivity because they are provided with only 1% of their actually habitat. SO NO THESE ANIMALS DO NOT NEED TO BE LOCKED IN PRISON ANYMORE!!!!!!!!!!

      Too late greedy bastard trainers killed him. Have no sympathy for any of these trainers or people who Force the animals to do this. No sympathy that they get killed or maimed. That may sound harsh but what they're doing to these poor animals is way more harsh than that. They only do it for the greedy green money. If they cared about animals they wouldn't be doing this. Matter of fact you don't have too many supporters of this at all read the comments idiots

      I really don't care that the trainer got killed. Bottom line you can't torture animals and withhold food and punish them for being an animal. They tortured Tilikum. With held food put him in a cage where he couldn't move, hit him, and probably worse out of view from the public. As if that small pen they put him in for punishment, wasn't enough?
      Poor animal needed no punishment. But idiot trainers did exactly that. Sick people. No sympathy from me and no apologies for it. Maybe if a few more whales would kill a few more trainers the light bulb would go on. I'm not wishing that, but that probably would be a solution now wouldn't it

      Catch 22, animals like whales and dolphins and sea lions need exercise. If you're going to keep them in an aquarium, training like this is a perfect way to give them exercise. But most things humans do, could be done better. I hurt for the day all wild animals are endangered because humans couldn't stop themselves from invading all nature and oceans. The great barrier reef is dying, at some point aquariums will be the only way to see what the oceans once were.

      The black fish documentary is fake.
      These so called animal rights groups are purposely made to gain political power, they are the exploiters, they don't care one bit about the animals. the individuals who volunteer their time in these animal rights groups and most workers do care, but the big fishes on top just laugh their asses off, and exploit the sincere concern off the people at the bottom.
      Also groups like: LGBT, ACLU, all they want is political power, and that's just what they have.
      They don't care about the groups they represent, ask me, I discovered all the sham I used to think they cared, it was hard for me, but I had to come to that conclusion.

Then the floodgates opened and I couldn't stop crying to see these majestic mammals being treated in this terrible way it was just so sad we as human beings are so cruel. We live in the uk so would never get a chance to see a show like this but it hurt my heart to see these orca's in a tiny little pool and when I turned to say something to my son he was crying too. So our visit to the USA was tarnished by what we saw at Disneyland sea world and my son wouldn't go anywhere else so for nearly 2 weeks we stayed around our pool and that was it.

    Them, i feel for them! We never learn from our mistakes, this has happened more than once i believe. We didnt just loose one good person, we have destroyed both lives the trainer an the whale. I’ve never really thought it through but I’ll admit I don’t think I would have the awe and admiration for these creatures in the wild as I do had it not been somewhat seeing clips of them in these shows on TV as a kid. I’m in NO way whatsoever defending Seaworld and want nothing more than to see these shows permanently shut down and these Beautiful creatures in their natural habitat or a sea sanctuary (if releasing them is not a viable option for their safety).
    It’s a strange truth but applies to many creatures, we’d not see them the same if not had chance to gawp and gaze in these settings. (Zoos,Aquariums,Shows,Circus)

    Tilikum is an animal. He wasn't responsible for his response to his living conditions that were provided by his captors. The fault lies with SeaWorld. It's a scientific fact that withholding/giving food as punishment/reward on a repeated basis causes a deterioration in an animals ability to perform even the most basic of tasks. It's also psychologically damaging to the degree that depression and agitation are very pronounced upon examination. What they did was abuse and neglect. And it resulted in the death of a trainer. SeaWorld is responsible, not Tilikum.

    Y'all assume that all places are like Sea World. For animals that are unable to be released, the shows are a way to get them exercise, and it happens to be a way to bring in enough to feed them and keep them healthy. Not every place abuses these animals. Some places, such as one I have recently been to and spent a week at, are wonderful facilities. The one I spent time at had dolphins. These dolphins were rewarded for doing tricks, but they chose to do them. If they didn't want to do the tricks they didn't have to. They just didn't get a reward. They were very attached to their trainers and in excellent health. Each of the permanent residents were either very young when rescued, or had a health issue that prevented them from being able to survive. So please, keep that in mind. Half of you suggest no animals be kept captive at all, however if you were to release the ones incapable of surviving they would die. So that's my opinion, have a nice day.

      @vitrealisvein Před 3 lety +7

      While most captive dolphins can not be released to the wild, it's really not a logical reason to defend the industry surrounding captive cetceans. When you attend shows or even most marine parks you're personally contributing to the demand of using these animals for entertainment and the practice of breeding them into captivity. They are highly intelligent, social animals that are genetically built to live, migrate, and feed over great distances in the ocean. There's not a facility on earth that can offer anything close to a chance to thrive as they are meant to be, that's why they die so young in captivity.
