Chromecast is one of my favorite devices, and it's something that I think everybody should own. In this video I'm going to show you the Chromecast setup process and how to install and use a Chromecast. The Chromecast is a $30 device that lets you wirelessly stream anything from your web browser, most likely video, to your HDTV. First let’s go over what you need in order to use and set up your Chromecast. You’ll need an HDTV, a WiFi network, and a smartphone or computer. When you first open the box you’ll see a quick start guide on the inside cover, and you’ll see the Chromecast itself. The Chromecast is small, about the size of a thumb drive, and it has an HDMI connector on the end. The rest of the box includes a USB cable, an HDMI extender, and the power adapter. The first step is to plug the small end of the USB cable into the Chromecast. Next, connect your Chromecast to one of your TV’s HDMI ports. If your Chromecast cannot fit into the area near your HDMI port you’ll need to use the HDMI extender to give it a little more room to fit properly. Next step is to power the Chromecast. There are two different ways to do this: one is to use a USB port on your TV if it has one. If it does, just plug the USB cable into it and it will power the Chromecast. If your TV does not have a USB port, you’ll need to plug the USB cable into the power adapter and plug the power adapter into an outlet. So once your Chromecast is powered on and connected, next step is to change your TV's input or source to the HDMI port that your Chromecast is connected to. Once you’re on the correct HDMI input you’ll see a screen like this. Now to set up the Chromecast you can use a smartphone, tablet, or computer but I’ve found it works best with a smartphone so let’s do that but the process is the same on a computer. Open your web browser and go to Chromecast.com/setup, and that will open a page with a link to the App Store so click on that. The App Store will open the Chromecast app so click on Install. It is a free app. Wait for it to download and install then open the Chromecast app. Accept the terms. It’ll scan for Chromecasts. Click Set Up a New Chromecast. Go to your phone’s Wi-Fi settings and select your new Chromecast. Look for the same device name you're seeing on your TV screen. Select it and wait for it to connect. Once it’s connected, go back to the Chromecast app and it should say it found a new Chromecast. Hit Next and make sure your input source is showing the Chromecast so that you see the code on your TV screen then hit Next. Choose your country. Give your Chromecast a name. Tap choose WiFi network and select your WiFi network from the list then enter your WiFi password. The Chromecast will connect to your WiFi network, and when it’s done you’ll see that it has been set up successfully. You can cast from your smartphone, tablet, and computer as long as they are connected to your WiFi network. It works with many different apps and to see the full list you can visit Chromecast.com/.... To start casting from your computer you’ll need Google Chrome Google.com/chrome. Once you have Chrome on your computer, open it and search Google for “Chromecast extension” and click the first result. Add the extension to Chrome. Once it has been added you’ll see the new Chromecast icon in the top right of your browser. That’s what you’ll click to cast to your TV. So for example to cast a CZcams video to your TV, while on the CZcams video watch page you can click the Chromecast icon in the bottom right of the video or click on the Chromecast icon in the top right of your browser and choose your Chromecast in the drop down menu. Once you do that it will start to play the CZcams video on your TV. This works with any browser window in Chrome, and it works with many more different websites. Now I’ll show you how it works on your smartphone or tablet. First make sure your phone or tablet is connected to your WiFi network. Then open a compatible app such as CZcams and now you’ll see a Chromecast icon in the app or on the video that’s playing. So tap on that icon and choose your Chromecast name and it will send the video straight to your TV. To stop casting just tap the Chromecast icon again and tap Disconnect. So that is how to set up and use your Google Chromecast!

I had mysteriously lost my "Cast" on my computer and was stressing about how to retrieve it, re-download, etc., etc. Well, thanks to you and your very clear, ez to understand instructions, I now am up and running again with the Cast button going. What if I can’t find my chrome cast
Is there a way to bypass needing a WiFi network and using you're smartphone's own data connection with out relying on a WiFi network? I have my phone's WiFi set to communicate with chromecast but for now I don't have any WiFi in my house and was hoping to just be able to use my phone's own data network. Any help on this?

I purchased a Chromecast Ultra and plugged it into my TV, which is eight years old. I know I have it plugged into the correct HDMI port and the TV is set to that channel. But I don't see the setup screen. Is it because my television is so old?

I'm planning to use this device to project/cast from my macbook to TV (at home) and a projector (at work). Will it work?
Andy, by the way, NETFLIX Shows on my wife's tablet, but when you open it up, the rectangular box is missing with the curves on the lower right hand corner. So, following your instructions that you provided on your video: a. Make sure tablet is connected to wife network (which it is); b. Open compatible app like Netflix (which it is); c. Tap on Rectangular box with the curves in the lower right hand corner (there isn't a rectangular box (but there was when we watched NetFlix in January). Thus, we can't go any further. P.S. I disconnected the Chrome Cast device from our 48" Sony Bravia TV and, then re-plugged it in as you stated and, the name of what my daughter named it to be, shows on the screen. But that's the extent of it. Might just have to wait 8-more months until she returns to see what the issue is, as I sure don't know.

Michael Hollenbeck I think that's possible as long as your phone has the capability of being a WiFi hotspot, but if you do go that route be aware that it will use up a lot of your data so make sure you have unlimited data on your cellular plan. Also you'll want to make sure you have a strong 4G or LTE connection if you want to be able to stream video with no lag.
MyTechMethods I didn't even think about it using all my data definitely need to keep that in mind when I only have 5gbs of hotspot ha guess I'll use my normal WiFi over hotspot. Well thank you for your response.

hey I found one of these and I have it hooked up to my TV just like you said do and everything is working good but one question is the only way I can watch something on the TV using this is to use my phone tablet or laptop or can I not use any of those and just use my remote for the TV to find stuff on Comcast what does everything has to be streamed from the computer phone or tablet

Yes but you will need another device to set it up initially (another phone, tablet, or laptop) then you can cast from the phone using its own hotspot feature.

Nice quick rundown, but I'm trying to figure out how to set up the TV Queue for Chromecast. Do I need CZcams Red? Can I set up a queue and have it download for watching later? I have slow WiFi and get lots of buffering pauses. Do you have suggestions for these issues?
Are you talking about a CZcams queue? You should be able to do that with the normal free CZcams app.

Oo2k10 The extension only works with the Chrome browser on a computer. It's not necessary on a tablet or smartphone because the individual apps have the chromecast feature built-in.
This my second chromecast device. It works sometimes with my tablet and other times not.

Hello and thanks for the video! My problem is that after watching some CZcams videos, I wanted to go back to TV. I disconnected Chrome Cast from my phone but it won't give me any control to the TV. The remote won't work and trying the menu from the TV won't work either. My regular input port is HDMI1 and Chrome Cast is in HDMI2 slot. Do I need to just unplug the Chrome Cast stick from the back of the TV in order to watch the television? Thanks in advance for any advice you have!
dmcite No you shouldn't have to remove the Chromecast from the TV. You should have control of the TV like normal after disconnecting via your phone. Not sure why it's doing that.
Would this still work if the WiFi connection that you were using was actually your hotspot from your cellular data

I have a Samsung series 5 TV. For some reason when I go to the App Store on my TV it does not show an app for SLING TV (when I go to the App Store on my other Samsung tv which is series 6 TV, there is an app for Sling TV). So I’ve been googling trying to find out why I can’t get the app. I did find out that I can add the app to my Chromecast on my Samsung series 5. But, I have been trying to figure out how to do it for about two weeks. I am so frustrated. Could you please help me figure out how to add the Sling TV app to my Chromecast on my Samsung series 5 TV? I would greatly appreciate your help! thank you!
