He was our neighbour 1960-62 i tink in Karolbagh, I was in M.Sc i found him a smart boy; buy never expected he would become a world champion! Bravo. we used to play badminton with his father in in park opposite to 12A/5 whee we used to live; just oppositie to poona guest house; i never met him aftrwards i also moved to apris in 1965

Let me ask you guys one thing. How many times did the Great Anand represent India in the Olympiad ? Didnt it ever occur to any one that India had lost chances just because of that ? Every time there were convenient excuses for him not to participate ....As an Indian a man of great caliber like him should have done every possible effort to represent India. This I guess is one blemish on his whole chess life. No argument at all on all other pluses. Look at Carlsen greater than Anand, as many times world champion as Anand is, representing his country and many other great champions all over the world do the same. Our country took his excuse without any complaint. But now his absence is not at all noticed as our youngsters do finer jobs on the board than he would have. We are proud of them. This is one reason that he is not my most fancied.
The youngsters you mentioned are probably playing Chess because of Anand
