  • One of our most frequent requests from novice anglers is how to make a basic Kob trace that they can use anywhere along the coast. Rudolph runs through a Circle hook version as well as a Jhook setup.

Very nice look at what works and gets the fish in. Thanks!

So glad you raised and highlighted about water reading. So many times I think we over cast over the fish.
2 weeks ago I got a beautiful 80cm kob in Stilbaai on a 2/0 J hook, limited slide, with a short cast (was hunting belman / steenbrass), with moonshine !!?
Thanks for this video and the awesome content.

Hi Rudolph, I want to thank you very much for the informative videos!
I used to live on the coast and love fishing. Due to work commitments and lockdown I have been stuck in Gauteng for some time and spent my spare time watching videos on this channel.
I went down to the coast a while back and had very limited time to fish. Just 1 day. Conditions were not ideal at all and I specifically wanted to target Kob.
I spent a considerable amount of time reading the water and walked for 4km until I found a nice gutter during dead low tide.(followed your water reading tips video)
I felt somewhat confident and used the trace you had demonstrated on this video with a 7o circle hook and dangle. I used a chokka bait as presented on one of the other videos with a bit of sard within and tentacles for vibration because the water was not that clean.
I threw just in front of the back bank in the gutter and went tight within minutes with a 63cm Kob. I kept the 1st one for the pot and managed to catch 4 others during the day between the 50cm and 74cm mark which I all released.
Thank you very much. My day was made! I just had to come back to this clip and thank you.

Sorry for getting back to you so late Joe , this is one of the best messages we could receive from our viewers , the whole reason the channel was started was to share information in order for everyone to experience the true sense of having a successful days fishing. You certainly put in the time and effort to put yourself in the best position to catch a kob by watching and learning, well done on the fish hope the one you kept was lekker on the braai

Simple is good I landed a nice kob with 30cm trace and just a prawn without cotton.
After weeks of tying high tech traces I was humbled with that catch.

Thank you. Can one use a sliding trace ( hook trace fixed to main line and sinker trace sliding) instead of the fixed trace?

Thanks for the informative video. What is your thought on 3 way power swivels? Quite pricey but the old school swivels have been good enough through the years, so I am glad to see that you are using them. Your opinion?

thank you for the video.. Been making my traces All wrong.. I go out on a boat in Langebaan. I have caught a kob on the trace someone else showed me (Round sinker with a long trace 1m roughly) but im sure it was more luck. Would your tackle work for me in the lagoon from the boat ?

Is a sliding sinker not better for Kob?

    • @SaltwaterFishingSouthAfrica
      @SaltwaterFishingSouthAfrica  Před 3 lety

Not necessarily , sliding sinkers help when the conditions are too strong for regular sinkers to hold. but in saying that everybody has there personal preference this is just rudolphs opinion
