    Clear and concise. Why cannot we as shore anglers create our own Min and Max list. Legally Min for Kob is 60cm ( EC), then let’s all try and agree and release everything over 100cm. It’s a start.

      We fish to catch and eat fish. Anything else is animal cruelty. If you don't eat fish then take up Golf, don't give away my freedom. Anyway there's lots of nets killing fish. A pro lost a net on a productive reef near me. How many fish is that killing?? How many dead fish in the fish markets. I'll tell you. Millions. Would I keep more than I need?? No.

    Xander, thank you once again for an informative video. Definitely going to help me going forward. Did an all nighter at Gamtoos last Friday with live bait, mullet with cable tie through the eyes and then a cable tie through that and fastened to the hook. Had a big hook up at 1am on Saturday and we are pretty sure that it was a raggie that bit me off. We were bitten off 4 times during the session.

    Great info. Subscribed. I thought main reason to wrap leader round spool once or twice was not to break off the 30lb line when doing powerful casts with heavy weights. Rule is 10lb line per ounce of weight plus 10lb. So 5oz need 50 plus 10. 60lb leader min

    • @zoolookfishing

    Awesome video. Yes a lot of factors to take into consideration. I personally agree with the catch and release and the minimum and maximum size. However I feel us as shore anglers can make a difference in catch and release. Just wish they can put a stop to the major problem being these illegal trollers that catch them by the tons at a time. But yes I have seen that this is a very sensitive topic as all anglers has their own opinions but yes catch and release is the way to go. Awesome Xander. Keep it up

    • @zoolookfishing
      @zoolookfishing  Před 3 lety

      Its totally our responsibility to save the specie, yes trawlers catch a lot of fish but they do not trawl dusky kob, damage that has been done has been by shore anglers and shore anglers alone!

    • @stephensmith3577
      @stephensmith3577 Před 3 lety

      Shore angler is definitely not the only reason for the Dusky Kob that is declining dramatically. There is many proven factors that show fishing vesels with net and long line that catch them by the tons. But none the less catch and release is the way to go if we as shore anglers want to make a difference to the numbers declining. But definitely disagree with the fact that you say it is just the shore anglers that are the reason as I have been involved in a Rhodes University group in the past on this exact topic. I have been targeting Kob for over 30 years now and can honestly say that the bigger ones are more full up due to the fact that anglers practice catch and release. The big fish is anyway no good for eating.

    • @kylevanstaden6497
      @kylevanstaden6497 Před 3 lety

      how can it be just shore anglers that have a big impact ?there are hundreds of videos that have done the rounds regarding drag nets full full full of kob of the coast of south africa...but also i think us as shore anglers can also play apart in helping our planet.great catches .more anglers must become members of ori tag so that we can start catch and release on a greater perspective....let myself and Stephen know when you are next heading to gamtoos ...stephen is known as the kob king ....stunning stunning fish
      Tight lines

    • @zoolookfishing
      @zoolookfishing  Před 3 lety +3

      @@kylevanstaden6497 we are not the only reason but we play a massive role... the nets you see full of kob are silver kob...those are a total different specie to duskey kob. They mature faster, grow faster and sexually mature earlier ,the swim in massive shoals, where duskdy kob do not operate in big shoals, they grow slower and sexually mature way bigger than silver kob. Duskey kob are found along the inshore lines where silver kob are more off shore on the east coast of africa. None the less who's fault it is and who has done the most damage, We need to start somewhere. Over the past few years there gave been a positive change in mindset and that gives me hope! O have fished De Hoop nature reserve,being part of the catch and release project. There you can see the impact of shore anglers, no fish have been killed there over the past 37 years
      The number of fish there is ridiculous compared to the areas open to public! That makes you think what impact recreational shore anglers have...but we all fight the same fight and that is what matters! As long as we care and protect, we will slowly win!

    • @bootsandall3612
      @bootsandall3612 Před 3 lety +1

      @@stephensmith3577 I have caught more dusky kob in my two years commercial fishing from boats as from the shore and that includes a year stint in Namibia. The percentage of shore anglers that are successful in catching these fish are small compared to the overall number of anglers. 90% of shore anglers are weekend warriors and don't spend days on the beach. Another big problem is estuaries which are poisoned and sanding up. Yes we need to protect these species, I agree. But it is not only the shore angler that needs to play this game.

    I have a question. Why would you not add the sinker where the hook goes in this video and the hook where the sinker goes. If your line is tight there is no movement for the sinker or the hook? But other way around, the sinker at the end will the give the hook line movement on the swivel.

    Stop giving away our rights. Catch and release will only make you feel better. Go to a fishmarket and see how many fish are in there. More rules will make fishing annoying. I watched an American video where guys got charged for keeping a fish on the wrong day of the week. Absolutely ridiculous.
