  • Ahh...Nothing like the smell of Maxillaria tenuifolia! I am rewarded this spring with six blooms to produce the sought-after coconut fragrance. Watch to learn a bit more about this easy-to-grow orchid and how I cared for it into blooming season.

The Max. tenuifolia was one of my first non Phal. orchids., before YT existed. Was discussing with the shop assistent that this is no orchid. Got it reduced as it didn't have any flowers 😊In 05/2019 I made a 2nd attempt. Currently it has the first 2 flowers, a real bonus for me as I also like it without any blooms. I have a 2nd one (backup) which I bought in 2022 and is only one single long stam. Had one flower last year. Many regards!

I’ll have to try that sometime - “that’s no orchid!” 😂😂😂 Thanks for watching!

When do you fettilize? What seasons or just on a regular basis? I've had mine for almost a year now and it hasn't bloomed yet but the growth is amazing! 😊

Fertilizer once a week during the growing season. Otherwise, the orchid is watered (flushed) every other day/two days to keep the media damp but not soggy. In the winter (indoors for me), I watered once a month and fertilized once in early March. The plant was not growing, so I followed this rest period by cutting back. Try to increase/supplement the light intensity during the winter with a good grow light. Thanks for watching!
