RP is Amazing!!! You won’t go wrong people, save the $1000 for glass , I have both and the photos are just about the same😉
Eos r or rp which is better
stories by robin the R is way better. However, if you are not a professional you are better of saving money and getting the RP
Correct R is better but image quality is really hard to notice if you use great lens 😉
That's a really good point - would make an interesting comparison: an R with a $1,000 lens vs an RP with a $2,000 lens.
How many raw+jpeg shots can be taken by this camera through the little battery?
DUDE! this video just flowed so well! and digging the new intro! keep up the great work!
TheNorthernWandered thanks mate! Appreciate the support :)
I love your soothing voice and the chill soundtrack and the overall relaxed pace of the video. Much needed in today's hyper photog youtubr era. Love photography as well!
So informative! Thank you Mitch for this video, really well done. Your shots of the model are stunning too!!
ELIZABETH Thanks Lizzie Loo yes Ana is stunning and a natural in front of the camera!
This was the first video of yours that I've seen and I really liked it. You provided a lot of good information and it was really entertaining as well. No clue how your channel hasn't blown up yet but I'm sure it will very soon.
Peter Sarellas Damn - thanks Peter! Yeah it’s a slow process I guess - only started posting consistently since start of the year :)
I don't easily subscribe to channels, but this video was so spot on, and you were so humble in the way you explained the differences between these two cameras... it impressed me! Thanks for telling us about the RP dial being better.... because when you're at a wedding you don't have time to cook a steak. You just want to get on with it.... I think pound for pound the RP is the better cash cow! We will buy the RP this year and wait until later and get something with more specs down the road. Thanks again, and God bless!!!! (Subscribed)
Thank You for this real world test! Made my decision to buy the R, and not going to regret it! The 35mm sigma is a beauty as well
This video made me buy RP :).Can't wait to start taking some pics with it
Hope you enjoy it!
Truly love this channel. Props to you for helping me with your videos and this video. Solute from Canada
I was in doubt about if I'd buy the eos r or rp, but now I decided to buy the little brother. Thanks man
Yo bro brilliant content as usual really like your perspective of things
Jonty Everton thanks man! 😊
Loved this review, specially being on a tight budget this helped me be confident about RP... will use the extra money on nice lenses
Natalia M great choice and best of luck with your new camera!!
Great video!
Not only was the camera spot on, but the lens make a great difference.
Your model was outstanding as well.
Definitely not worth paying a lot more for the the “superior” model.
Mitch I'm loving the vids mate..excellent choice in music too. Two thumbs up
Fantastic video / review you have answered so many questions and your shots with both are stunning, Anna is the perfect model. Subscribed, look forward to more of your videos.
Thanks Tom!
Hi Mitch, for family and travel photography R8 or Eos R? Which one? @@MitchLally
Max shutter speed is the killer here for me. I am jumping into this system mainly for the 85 1.2. I am absolutely going to need that extra 1/4000 second at max aperture.
Well done comparison video. You clearly delineated the difference between the two cameras which I will mull over. Thank you.
love how the pictures turned out ! Anna was gorgeous ^_^
Title caught my attention then within 2 words I realised you were a fellow Aussie , within 30 seconds I subbed. Looking forward to exploring the channel more👍🏻
Haha! Thanks mate - appreciate the sub :)
Glad you made this video man. Great video
Bro this is a FANTASTIC video. Thank you so much
Owned a lot of brands Leica, Olympus, Nikon, Canon, Fuji, Sony and love my RP. 4770+ focus points can't be bad.
This really helped me figure out which one ill be getting, Thank you
This is the best comparison video of the r and rp
Thanks! Glad you liked it
Love your editing style
Heidi Tracy Thanks Heidi!
Thumbs up for the real life comparison. Leaving video capability out of the picture, I actually prefer the RP over the R. I tried them both and yes, the display and EVF is better on the R. But in (my) real life, the mechanical mode dial kills it. It's so much easier to operate whithout looking. I just wish I could afford those RF lenses with the additional dial. Then I could change aperture, exposure and ISO with my fingertips in a fraction of a second. I'm really happy with the RP (coming from a 6D).
Did you come from the 6d or the 6d Mark ii? I read to my wife what you said and she said it really spoke to her. She's owned the 6d Mark ii for over 2 years and loves it but wants a good back up camera. I think the RP may just make her 6d Mark ii the backup.... ha ha! She also loves the dial better....
@@thommysides4616 The original 6D. I never considered the 6D Mark II. The RP was a nice choice and I didn't regret it, until the R6 came out and guess what I own now 😉
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU.
i needed to see a video of the EOS RP with the sigma 35 f1.4 as that is my absolute favorite lens right now,, thank you so much bro i appreciate it.
EOS RP HERE I COME
Joseph Choi let’s go!!!
Joseph Choi you should see Mitch Lally video in the Tamron 35mm f1.4.....
@@Francisfphoto_ will do!
dude,love your style!
Thanks!
I’m really digging your content!
Love the video man, defo subbed
IAmJadoreTV Thanks mate appreciate the support!
The differences were subtle, but I feel like there was more quality in the shots done with the EOS R.
dude your photos are gorgeous!!!!
It’s not crazy noticeable but in certain situations it seems the rp was a bit brighter with the colors and the r caught a little bit more of the details overall both are great options and the video was very informative!
Nice video! I am going with the RP to replace my canon 7D. I am happy that there was very little difference in the photos.
I really enjoy watching your content! I have the sigma 35mm f1.4 that is supposed to be arriving next week so Im eager to use it after watching this video (i know yours is the Tamron)
Thanks José
Thanks a lot! I came into a conclusion that I'll get the RP. The R is great for the 4K capability but it's cropped view. I'll better save money for a lens
I love your content, subscribed
LEGEND!
Hey Man, looking at the Canon EOS R and found you! I'm from Australia too so I subscribed!
Thanks for checking out the video!
I do a little video but primarily still photography and this is why I would choose the EOS R over the EOS RP:
- EOS R has a max shutter speed of 1/8000 sec, EOS RP has a max shutter speed of 1/4000 sec
- EOS R uses the same LP-E6N batteries as my Canon 5D Mk4, EOS RP uses a completely different battery
- EOS R can use a battery grip, EOS RP doesn't have any battery grip option
- EOS R has USB 3.1 (5Gb/sec), EOS RP has USB 2.0 (480Mb/sec)
- EOS R is 30MP, EOS RP is 26MP - not as drastic as some of the other differences but if I'm getting a new camera I'd rather the sensor be equal to or greater than my existing 5D Mk4 bodies.
- EOS R allows custom filenames (which I actually use), EOS RP does not
the difference for 1k ^^'
It's on sale now. More like $800 difference. I think it's worth it.
Juan Plus negative. Rather use that saved money for glass.
HAHA A $1000 more JUST for those specs?
No shit I had the same reason mate. Is because of the battery, I have about 6 LP-E6 extra battery and it's kinda nifty to use it for the eos R
I`m using RP for portrait photography. Considered to switch to R, thanks to your review I know that it`s pointless to spend 1k$ more for a camera which is almost the same. thx a lot for this video.
Brisbane represent! First video I've seen of yours Mitch and really enjoyed it! I've got an 80D and 5Diii- thinking of selling both to just get one camera that has the best of both worlds. Great comparison and rather surprised by how well the RP managed.
Wesley Chapman Thanks man! Its a good idea to try both before deciding :)
@@MitchLally Great point! Would love to see a video about how well the RP manages video and editing/ color grading compared to the R. Thanks for the insight and previous reply :)
Thank you for the comparison...👍🏿
Overall score on dpreview, gave rp a lot higher score than the r. Keep that in mind 😉
Well done... Great information with a relaxed delivery... Combined with rf glass. (5 more lenses promised by the end of the year) I think the rp can still be a lightweight powerhouse. I can't wait to see what Canon does for it pro mirrorless body... I have a feeling they will go all out and implement some new innovative tech and improve on the eye af tracking...
David Goddard Photography thanks for the comment David
@@MitchLally Your very welcome. Great work.
Thank you so much 🙏🌸 l m still between of the eos r and xt4
Hi, great video man as always. What about color-grading c-log All-I 1080p from EOS R vs 1080P Video? I'm asking cause I'm about to purchase either one of those two for video work and I'm not sure! Thanx in advance.
I recognise Mt Cootha botanic garden 😁great spot!
Im doing outdoor(natural light & hss) and indoor portrait, eos RP was a great camera for that, even for wedding photography, only that you need to prepare 4-6 battery. I do notice that the DR not that good with RP,still you get better camera from eos 6D2, 5D 1-3, and other apsc camera. Im stick with canon because the color science, which is better from sony and probably nikon. Yes,eos RP still great camera for still photography. Save that 1000$ for RF lens (24-105 F4). It great lens.
A great video. I am a beginner. I owned a Canon 30D for motorsports. I like the lightweight Mirror less cameras.
Good review mate
The eos rp is awsome for its price. I use this camera proffesionaly with adapter for ef lenses and it works like native. Also i use native rf lenses. I own also the eos R and i dont see real difference in results only some specs is better.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
@@MitchLally Youre welcome. Your compare is really nice ! 👌
WOuld you mind me asking what type of shots you do professionally? Weddings by any chance? I am getting the RF 50mm f1.2 (oh yes baby) with the EOS RP. Do you find this produces highly professional results for weddings? No doubt the lens does, but the RP RAW files are the thing I need to ensure can be adjusted without degradation. Thanks for any help :)
@WaynePix Weddings and fashion is my main income :) I use the 50 mm 1.2 L with adapter and the results are stunning! You can check my work here instagram.com/constantinospournarasweddings/ The files is really good for me
@Constantinos Pournaras hey... bit late to the party, but how do you get round only having the one sd card slot? Everyone says 2 card slots are a necessity for weddings :|
Thank you for the very nice review
Thank you Mitch, I bought RP was thinking to pay more and exchange to R, this video is so helpful👍
Nice video mate, good comparison. Did you film this in 4k? Looks CRISP! Also, on which lens? Cheers!
Yes, correct. I think we used a 24mm 1.4 Sigma Art
Great comparison I liked it, i never thought much about the Rp till now. I've been waiting for the R6 and once I see then it's a choice between the R6 or the EOS R
The RP is a steal right now if you live in the US. $808 thru Canon refurbished.
I just made a mistake and bought the RP instead of the R, thanks to your video I don’t feel so bad now, let’s hope it can take all the beating weddings do to the gear!
hey i just seen ur comment and i was interested in finding out if the rp did good for you for weddings i’m looking into starting to do weddings and i’m just curious as to whether or not it could do good for weddings
@@christiantillman5413 There hasn’t been that busy, but I am loving the camera, I use it mainly with a 28mm 1.8 USM to keep it light, I absolutely love the screen and find myself shooting a lot without even using the view finder, it is a keeper, but now I want an EOS R6
@@EderAcevedoPhoto thank you. it’s making me excited bc i just ordered it a few days ago and mine comes in on jan 2nd. i want to do portraits do u have any lenses u would recommend?

THANK YOU VERY MUCH IT WAS A VERY INTERESTING VIDEO.
Hey from Brisbane as well !
Very nice and opportune vid. Thanks!
great info subbed good honest content one can appreciate that
Thanks Allen!
As one said "If you miss exposure more than 2 stops maybe it's not the problem of dynamic range?"))
Thank you for sharing
Hello and thank you very much for this very good video and tests. This reassures me because I will soon switch to the Canon R Range! It is
I sold my 6D MarkII yesterday! I'm waiting to see if this fall there will be a Photo Fair or a Photokina which could perhaps reveal other novelties from Canon including, who knows, a "Canon RP2" (if you have Info on this subject, I am a taker ...)?! Otherwise it will be the RP to start in this range. A question that I still ask myself: I have the Canon 35 f2 is usm (which I could mount on the RP Via an adapter ring), it is not much heavier than the RF 35 f1.8 is stm, and I should get pretty much the same image renderings right? Apart from the fact that the 35 RF is almost macro (which will not be decisive in my choice), is it really worth it that I resell my 35 f2 is usm to buy the RF 35 f1.8 is stm or not ??? I am also thinking of buying the RF 50mm f 1.8 to start with an Objo. of this new range have you tested it? 😁
Thank you in advance for your answers,
Sincerely,
Philgood ... 🤓
Thanks Mitch - I've tried the R and RP - I really liked the size and weight of the RP especially with the 35mm RF. I was looking at that combination to go on a gimbal possibly the new Ronin SC. - question where all the video clips on the R.
Mark Shirley I did another video with some sample clips from the R. Its called ‘switching to the eos r’ on my channel. I wanted to keep this one photography focused.
Mark Shirley what about video on rp? Dope or nope?
Nice work Mitch, I think I will grab an RP as a B-Cam to my R.
PromoMovies.com.au good idea
Awesome comparison and greetings from Queensland :-) I've decided to get the RP and invest the extra money in a lovely new Canon RF 50mm f1.2. Can't wait to get away from the m43 system and back to Canon Full Frame.
Ended up getting the EOSR (needed more dynamic range) + 50mm RF f1.2 and so happy with it! The last 3 model shoots on my channel are shot with it and easy to see the difference from earlier videos 😀
Hi, Mitch. I'm about to buy this camera for replacing my XH1. The reason why i need this one is because i have a canon 135mm f2.
Do ef lenses perform well in R series body with adapter?
Best video review for RP on all youtube
I love your job! s2
I’m between the R, Rp and 90D . Because if is not by the full frame I heard that the 90D is a beast and in certain way is killing the Rp.
did u use same preset that u use for wedding photography ? In your AUTHENTIC FILM | 10+ LIGHTROOM PRESETS by MITCH LALLY ? thank you dude !
Both well known sensors. One from the 6D II and one from the 5D IV
I got the RP and i agree in most of what you show , but in edit you can bring all the same details from rp as the eos R , the difference is so small that its only the pixel pervs who will notice , the reason why i bought rp and not the r is the r still needs to be a better camera for that ekstra 1000 usd and its not worth the pay if you ask me maybe when a high end mirrorless canon camera comes out ill go for that , but ty for a great video and beautyful shots , hope you make a upgrade of this now when new firmware is out :-)
Hi, any reason why you don't use Servo AF in face or eye-tracking mode? I just found it to be more accurate, when the subject (or the photographer) is slightly moving. (Although I would like if I could just use single point with Single AF and switch the AF mode and tracking altogether) Cheers
padam19 no reason. Guess I’ve always used one shot and its worked for me in the past. Might give servo a try.
That because sigma art has back focusing problem with eye tracking
@@lightrail2823 don't think back focusing issue will ever exist in mirrorless systems.
Hey mitch came across few your videos an was wondering if you still feel the RP is a good camera to get started in canon system until I get few RF lenses ...
Yeh it just seems the R has a little Colder color then RP. Great review!
Have you done a video on this again after the Eye-AF firmware was updated recently ?
New sub here. Great video review! I have the RP myself and love it. But looking to go for the R for the uncropped 4K.
The 4K is still cropped in the R btw🙃
omg this lady is gorgeous. Also, thank you for this video. It's really helpful.
Wait, snap! You’re Australian! Me too! Wow! I’m purchasing the EOS R and wanted to continue researching the difference between that and the RP. I know the R5 is coming out, but it will be waaay out of my budget (I’m guessing, since it’s a huge leap so I’ve heard). Oh wow that comment about the battery, that’s so interesting!
Yup! fellow aussie ☺️ for what you do I think go with the EOS R. I think the R5 will be overkill tbh! RP is also nice but its a bit lacking in video quality imo. The video on the R is super nice you won't be disappointed.
Mitch Lally thanks Mitch! Was such a great video! I see Quarantine is keeping you up too haha!
we are all night owls now 😂
Mitch Lally hahaha yep! For sure 😪😂
any diffrences in Eye AF between R and RP?
Jarosław Niekrasz not to my eye :)
Hey! If I may,a s of now I have a nikon d40x in my arsenal with 2 kit lenses. I was thinking of getting the RP with the 24-105mm . Im justa guy you likes taking photos, not so professionally. Is it worth my time?
Totally sold on the Eos R💪🏻
When you were you recording which camera were you using?
Is the Rp is a good camera for portraits photography? I can't decide what camera to buy in a low budget.
wise words man!
Thank you
*subbed* much love from vancouver canada
Louis Luzuka louis brother thank you!! Appreciate it
Which camera body do you use for your wedding photography?
Did you use spot-metering to take these photos? Thanks!
I bought the RP because of your videos and I'm living it. Keep it up!
The bit about the shutter curtains closing to protect the sensor appears to me to be a big deal. I am a neophyte when it comes to photography, but dust and dirt on the sensor CANNOT be a good thing. But is it worth $1000? If I buy a camera, it has to last for a long time. Unlike a pro who has to keep up with the latest trends in cameras, my camera has to last for at least 10-15 years. I think the R is more likely to do that than the RP, but, while I have owned Canon cameras for years, the EOS R seems to have problems that mean I should consider another brand.
Thanks for the video.
My thoughts and situation exactly! What camera(s) are you looking at to solve those problems?
I'm coming from Canon as well but I think Sony a7c is the better bang for buck at this price range. Even at higher price range Sony a7s iii is blowing R6 out of the water (video-wise). I'm just hesitant to make the switch.
@@WSJade I decided to just keep my old Canon for a few more years until all this gets sorted out. I too like the looks of the Sony, but like you, I am hesitant to make the switch.
@@CCoburn3 Which camera do you have now and which problems are you referring to specifically for EOS R?
Unfortunately I can't afford to wait much longer for a fullframe (and mirrorless seems the way to go). I'm also mostly shooting video.
Not Unless you will be switching lenses in a sandstorm, i dont see the big deal...
The best comparison video for R and RP ❤️ Most people just sit and talk about features. But you showed us beautiful outputs to compare. Thanks man 🤩
Man I was just at Digidirect Brisbane checking out those cameras just a month ago...never thought you were actually from there. Other than that, I’ve been pretty torn between the Canon EOS R & RP and the Fujifilm XT3 on which to buy. All are awesome, I’m just still trying to figure out what I want out of a camera and how well it can do it based on the type of photography I do. Would’ve been nice to meet you while my ship was there for more questions regarding these cameras.
Stewart Robison hahah that’s great! Yeah I would say if you’re shooting photos only its a toss up on what you like better. But if you’re adding video to the mix then the xt3 is the way to go.
Awesome from Canada
Ofc you cant really differentiate both based on stills (unless you pixel peep it), camera body is about experience and features which might or might NOT impact your photography style at all.
What is your opinion when it comes to video quality. I know the R has clog but what about comparing both in 1080p? Is there a big difference?
Manuel Friedrich Yeah I would not consider the RP for video. The image didn’t look very good to me. Not sure about bitrate comparisons but the R looked much better in my limited tests. Only had the RP for a couple of days so wanted to mainly compare photo wise.
I have the RP its great for video for me, the 4k is really good, I'm also using Clog3 and its giving me great results with the dynamic range
@@allenrenchbundy3719 The RP does NOT have clog.
Hi bro. I have Fujifilm X-T3 but I want to buy full frame. Do you recommend Canon RP? Also I believe Sigma lenses best sharpness lenses. What do u think about this combine? Cnaon RP + Sigma 35mm 1.4 art. I usually shooting fashion photo and video. Thank you...
Is the EF to RF adapter required in order to use the sigma lens on the canon RP?
I have a brief stint with EOS RP... to be honest, I'm blown away and satisfied with the photos considering I only have RF 50 1.8 and RF 85 F2 that time. What if I have 1.4's or 1.2's back then? However, the reason I sold it is because its only 1/4000. hard to shoot wide open in some situations. I could've have countered it with ND filter but its extra stuff that needs to carry all the time. Else, if I have extra money, I will buy RP again for general photography.
