The police shouldn't even be needed on speaker's corner. Of course, years ago, before mass immigration, they weren't, as the basic freedoms there that we have valued for so long were understood and respected by British people. I wonder what has changed?

I remember going to a lockdown protest in late 2020 which ended at speakers corner after the police shutdown and stormed the stage to stop anyone speaking at Trafalgar square. They cordoned off speakers corner, created rows upon rows of police and arrested anyone who wouldn't leave the area.

I was not preaching there last week. This is the first I have heard about it. The Muslims (“Islamist” is a meaningless term used to get Muslims and Islam off the hook) have cultural values different from native Brits and, thus, cannot but disrupt attempts at speech which they do not like. Similarly, I worked in the UAE for a while.
I never declared my atheism, but locals and other muslims would often try to convert me (it's part of their agenda). I would always listen with 'interest' and then ask 'innocent' questions about what they were saying. Great fun.
@@RogueRM the equivalent to an atheist in Islam is a "baytooti" (bad spelling), which means a "stay at home" and they only go to mosque on Friday noon prayer so they don't visit Mr chop chop.
