    Honestly she is too harsh on Snowden. I don't view him as a hero a all but he is definitely closer to that of whistle-blower than a traitor. Especially considering what kind of activities the government was caught doing. Also she is kind of missing the point here. It damaged national security sure but the question Snowden raised was "is this acceptable behavior? even for the national security reasons?" She needs to convince people that "it acceptable and justified"

      Snowden is absolutely a whistleblower and a hero. America has some kinda collective disease where we can't just say what's obviously true becaus... I don't know, it just seems like people are cucks.
      Like they don't mind being surveilled by intelligence agencies, having democracy dominated by billionaires, they're afraid to say we should prosecute war criminals like Bush and Cheney because they were politicians in a high office. It's such a bummer

      Yuki Ito I’m not sure but I’m only speculating that Rice is claiming that “Julian Assange” was the wrong person to give it to. (?)
      I don’t see Assange as an innocent journalist like most.
      I find him to be definitely dishonest, reckless and therefore having questionable behavior.
      Ill never forget when Assange worked with republicans, Trump and Fox News to frame Hillary in a conspiracy theory that she had Seth Rich murdered and Assange pushed that conspiracy theory. Wtf
      Then there were ppl around Trump, like Roger Stone, reaching out to Assange to time the Hillary dumping of stolen info during the campaign to help Trump when he was experiencing bad publicity like the Access Hollywood tape.
      What real journalist does stuff like that?
      But Snowden was a whistleblower from what I can tell.
      Julian I still question

    Am still waiting for a good answer on the real Snowden question: Given that the US government was in violation of the 4th amendment and that all 3 branches of government were in the know to varying degrees and kept quiet, what was a person of conscious to do about our government breaking the law and collecting data/spying on us?

      jimbo Vargas One crime does not justify another. The ends do not justify the means. Snowden’s actions may ultimately effect change for the better. That’s irrelevant though. That doesn’t excuse crime. That does not give you a get out of jail free card. If you believe in rule of law and not just “rule of whatever I feel like doing at the time”. He still has to face trial. Period.

    • @bluegold21
      @bluegold21 Před 4 lety +3

      What Snowden did was for the betterment of judgement but protocols are set in place to protect information from being leaked. So in order to retain access to the said information outside of the reservation, Snowden knew he would have to break through the wall and avoid checks. Simply doing that shows that there are weaknesses in the system but only by way of inside intel on how the system of protection works. If Snowden had been a foreign agent that would have been jumped on by all the offices with equal fervour. As it was only the people worried about the leak ( crusading GOP'ers and their oil company interests ) set to looking for his neck. As long as they hold power then Snowden will not be safe in the US. But I believe he does need to be given some form of punishment for breaking the wall because as an agent with rank you should expect to suffer punishment when breaking protocol. I wouldn't call it treachery. I would call it going awol. As for the information being leaked to people who would otherwise not have access to the information, then that is clearly protected by the 1st amendment by way of allowing the truth of abuses to be examined by a non-bias legal authority(something that still hasn't been done). Whether or not the abuses were performed in another country the bill of rights extends to all US citizens without credible exception. No US passport holder can gun down innocents and journalists and unarmed personal without a clear threat to their own life. To do that is to be hypocritical. The only conclusion was that whilst the US government claimed their capitalist system was what they wanted for everyone because it was beautiful and rich and clean and safe when in fact, they had been making up the rules as they went along to suit their commercial interests. The patriot act embezzled this idea of one rule for them and another for the others. ergo very unpatriotic.

Russia's cyber warfare units are light years ahead of ours and always have been. The main reason the NSA went to such lengths was to try to catch up. But cyber doesn't work like that. You have to have TALENT at your disposal and you need to invest resources into it. Russia steals classified info from countries all over the world, every single day. That's the only way they can hope to compete. Snowden opened Pandora's Box. Once people (well, people with more than one brain cell to rub together) found out that their own government was watching them, they changed their behaviors to some extent.

    I whole heartedly agree with Susan Rice, on some sort of mandatory service for young people. ( though, I fear it could be used to reinstate the draft, so how it is implemented deserves a great deal of oversight).
    Caveats aside, back in the Stone Age of 1971, as a teenager I was part of a program put together by the “Ethical Culture Society”, “The Encampment for Citizenship”. A summer with a group of teens from all different socio-economic, racial, and cultural backgrounds, thrown together in a live in campus. We had to create our own government, and learn to get along with each other. Our staff were graduate students who had done stints in the peace corps, and high school teachers who themselves were breaking ground in their own communities for racial equality and social justice. Our group of teens, were white liberal kids ( mostly Jewish) from the NY metro area, inner city black and Hispanic kids from Newark NJ, Native American kids from the Blackfoot Nation, white Anglo farm kids from the wheat belt, and a couple of students from overseas ( Israel, Europe, Hong Kong). There were 3 campuses in the country. My group was in Great Falls, Montana.
    I am so grateful I was able to participate in this program. To this day, I feel it was one of the best learning experiences on how we are so much more a like, than our differences. And when we can understand why those differences are standing in the way of our living and working together, then we as humans, can come together and create effective change for the betterment of our planet. 🙏
