Every serious guitar player I know considers him one of the best alive. He's kind of like Tommy Emmanuel. It's just a given he's at the top.
True story. I never realized how talented Brad Paisley was on the guitar when I was young and into country. It wasn't until I got into thrash metal and classical guitar that I became addicted to this man. He really is the Van Halen of country music,
I love EVH. One of my heroes. I don't disagree... Vince Gill is the only other one that compares.

Paul looked way out of place
Paul threw everything at him , even unloading some classical piano lines. He tried to hurt him LOL. But Brad didn't even flinch. That time, it was his show, his band. He wasn't gonna get outdone. These instrumental country duels are like living and breathing for Brad. He was just having fun. He walks into that duel with a smile. Scary talent. They put his name to the test and they got slaughtered.

As a self proclaimed metal head I KNOW this guy is THE greatest guitar player in country since Roy Clark I think Joe Satrani pops a stiffy when he sees Brad shred!!

Now this is country music. Good guitar riffs, good two step tempo. Country beat with a steel guitar. Not like this crappy semi-pop music with a contemporary Christian heavy drum beat that permeates the radio. Glad someone is still playing country music the way it used to be played.
I like this kind of music. Brad is the reason I even considered lead guitar. He's a real, down-to-earth musician.
I normally hate all Country but for some reason love Brad Paisley's take on it. Like i own all his albums and seen him live lol.

Anyone with who thinks Paul didn't kill it: A) does not understand the physics of how piano keys work, and B) must not be a musician. Or both, most likely. This was outstanding all around.
Paul was horrible...for whatever reason. The minute we start calling bad good and good bad, the human race is doomed.

Brad doesn't use a scale he plays over the chords. By the time he was done he played every last note that exists on a guitar.

When you get really good....I mean REALLY REALLY good, you learn how to make substitutions for substitutions and syncopate your syncopations. Musically it can be off-the-charts brilliant, but I admit that, to the untrained ear, it can sound like a piano falling down the stairs.

Neither, just plays a different sort of style. Stick brad in with a bunch of soul or funk guys and it'd be much the same
Could be - good point there. But I can't ignore that Paul has hit the sauce a little too heavily here. Chord progressions are his strong point, and his mind wasn't fast enough to keep up so he just ended up banging on things.

Well, he was definitely playing "out" - and to me his technique was a little sloppy, but if you're saying he was hammered then that explains it. Personally I was expecting more from Paul, cuz I know he's a sick musician..

@steadiguy I am a professional musician, so I hear what you're saying about grace. But Paul was clearly outshined on that stage. He sounded very out of his element playing that stuff. Though, you couldn't tell until he took his solos and traded riffs with Brad. If he just stuck to comping, he would have been okay.

Loved the performance- but what was Paul doing?? Sounded and looked like a bunch of arhythmic sloppy octave work to me. I guess honky tonk improv just ain’t his thang.
