- In this session we skim with @johnnywebergrills and @indogramog at a Beach that rarely gets this good for skimboarding. I have frequented this beach many times and have never seen it this good for skimboarding before.

Growing up in the South Bay one learns to find places where the difficulties outweigh the crowds. Not naming secret spots but the coves at P.V. have many hidden gems for the brave and of high pain tolerance.

I cut the legs off my first wetsuit ( 1972..ish) making a long sleeve spring suit and I really liked having my legs free. Surfed that suit til it was see thru. lol
p.s. skim boards in the '60's - '70's were home made & most were just 24" plywood discs, edges beveled, varnished & we'd wax them up. We just skimmed at low tide across the waters edge on flat sand.
We'd also remove the fin out off our surf boards & try to skim like you do now. But that depended on big/small the waves were that day. Thanks for bringing us along on your adventures.

I remember when those state passes were well under $100 bucks. So expensive these days. Man, imagine being as good as Blair. Looks like so much more fun than just slamming onto the sand like I do every time I've tried to skim.

Few things compare to the feeling of progressing in this sport. it was even enjoyable eating sand but it only gets more fun the better you get.

Ha ha, welcome to the east coast waves. That would definitely be top three best sessions I’ve ever had on my beach, Tybee Island is so flat and choppy a lot of the time
Can you guys perhaps do a tutorial on riding liners and siders? what to look for and anticipate the trajectory of the wave? How to stay and pump on the line? How to connect a sider and also get deeper?

I just got my first skimboard today, but I live in Alabama and about 5 hours from the nearest beach so does anyone have any suggestions on where I could skim?

We have like a 1.5 ft tide here where I live in Florida. That's it. 7 ft tide difference is pretty significant. I didn't know had that much tide there. I know the tide gets high as we go up the East Coast on my side of the country, but down here in S. Florida and on the Gulf side of Florida the tide isn't much at all.

I'd like to see Blair run a timed 40 yards under track conditions to see how he rates. He can really run fast, and I wouldn't be surprised if he could be competitive with a lot of track and field athletes, football players, etc.... I think Blair's approach speed is an important factor in him being so good at skim boarding (he can connect with more waves and further from shore).

U should do a how to rap because I am having trouble keeping my speed doing it
maybe i could help, i havnt seen you do it but make sure you keep your weight distributed evenly on your feet. also turn your shoulders and lean into it
Also practice doing just turns in the water it’ll help a lot.
yea definitely dont rush anything, raps take a lot of balance compared to just riding a wave in my opinion, also make sure your wave is big enough, you need atleast a 2 foot face 3 or bigger is probably optimal though for riding away
Run as fast as possible and lean into the shore and turn your shoulders
