Magnus sounds a lot like Capablanca was. He said: "Other players try to find out the best move but I know the best move".
For this it is necessary to calculate 😂
@@Hector_10305 not really. It's intuition that he developed over the years.
@@duydatyds Pattern recognition, awareness of the context of the position, understanding robust chess principles and then as you said a little intuition.
All that stuff saves a lot of time with almost no calculation necessary.
This is actually true. He has seen every conceivable position many times so when it's important who seems to remember or feel what to do before even calculating. Pattern recognition in a way.
Casablanca once was asked: "master, how many moves ahead do you see?" He replied: "I only see one move ahead, the best one"

Magnus’ “lazy calculation” is probably more precise than everyone except a handful of players in the world
No he is right... He jus gets the chess..
He just instinctively finds the moves and can predict 3-5 moves in advance.... That's why he does so well in rapid and blitz... Other players maybe good but they rely heavily on prep... So once magnus neutralises their prep and takes them in deep water... They r helpless.... That's why he left classical chess because of tiresome prep that he needs to go through...
No it's probably more precise than anyone else in the world.

To summarize Magnus thoughts on Gukesh: ”He calculates”
thats a bad summary of a video dawg.
@@seriousman2566it's a good summary, i didn't realise he was saying that
Gukesh calculates "What move would magnus make" while magnus just knows
This is all well and good, but it does not change the fact that in Australia there are 48 million kangaroos and in Uruguay there are 3,457,380 inhabitants. So if the kangaroos decide to invade Uruguay, each Uruguayan will have to fight 14 kangaroos.
Kangaroos aren't bulletproof or bombproof
Fine calculation.
13.8833 to be exact👍🏼👍🏼
Facts
kangaroos don't yet have the capacity to project their power globally, they are a regional power. They also won't have the training to conduct a naval invasion, or to operate navally at all, as such an invasion would require. Furthermore any attempt at an invasion would be fought off by the Uruguayans as they have guns, and tanks, and planes, also missiles... So this is frankly a stupid proposition you have just made.
Chess is completely a calculation based game from a mathematical point but that's not for humans, you will never calculate as fast or as an accurate or in depth like an engine, calculations are very important but intuition is more important for humans, that's why Gukesh strongest suite is in classical format in comparison to rapid and blitz that have lower time to calculate and have to rely as Magnus said on understanding of the game.
Completely agree. But will also add that calculations is an EXCELLENT foundation to build understanding and intuition upon. So Gukesh in 20-30-40 years will be VERY scary opponent.
Doesn't it become quite memory based when you get very good.
@@inoutshakeitallabout exactly, when they say memory based, they're referring to the openings or how the same positions can occur a lot so you know what's the best move but no matter how much you play, you will always face a new position because of the number of possibilities, that's why intuition or pattern recognition comes in, you may not know what's the best move but based on other positions in similarity, you just feel what's the right move, you don't have to calculate every possible line when you make the move, you just know it's the right one in that position, unlike engines who always construct binary search trees with weights and calculate very deeply to get the best move, not that it matters because they do it instantly anyway 😭😅.
@@hulkslayer626 of course, calculation is always the foundation, intuition comes more with experience, but Magnus meant there are some players who has that intuition talent even without the same experience, like Alireza, but I can't wait to see the WC matches between Gukesh and Ding, it's gonna be 🔥.
In 20 years Gukesh will be past prime, lol @@hulkslayer626

Magnus Has practiced and collected so much that He does not need to calculate he simply knows the patterns where things are going till the opponent does something which disobeys the pattern
Dear Gukesh, When you hear others talking about your way of chess, just remember that your way is what got you to where you are today. Personally, I wouldn't change after hearing comments if my game was as strong as yours is.
I don't understand... Did anyone suggest he should change?
I think Magnus was complimenting him.

If calculation needs any calculation,
Then it needs magnus😂😂
Which is why Gukesh is not good in Blitz and bullet. He needs TIME for deep calculations.
This might change as he matures though.

Lets calculate how many times Magnus said Calculate😂😂😂😂

Gukesh: this guy calculates.
BRO, DO YOU EVEN CALCULATE?
that why he is really good at classical but struggles in rapid and blitz
Well classical chess is real chess . in olden times people had no time limit and people played for hours
Magnus has just explained why he is the best, he understands the nuances of this game more than the others.
It truly is a great complement for Gukesh, since Magnus never usually speaks high of the current generation players.
Does he speak highly of anyone really? He is also extremely self critical, so it's very much in his character to see flaws, that's how you win chess games.
Except pragg...
Magnus plays from memory. Like I’ve seen this before so I know what to do.

He already said, he gets it by intuition, it happens after a period time, so Gukesh in future can get better moves with less calculation
As always he actually trolled all kids out there by saying they don't really understand the game😂
If calculator is a lazy magnus then I am an apple tree.
Magnus is not being very honest here. Magnus is the monster in calculation.
Pretty sure Magnus was going through a couple of Gukesh’s games in his head while commenting on his (G) calculation skills.
Playing mind games
He just remembers that he’s going to win
It's not being lazy, it's optimizing the time you have to calculate the best you can. More often than not following a crazy rabbit hole will only waste your time.
I was very much based. Cut there
Bruv, Magnus doesn't calculate, he sees it
It's worth noting that Magnus is a man who is overwhelmed by emotions when he loses, and it leads him into rage and insane behaviour. There has been good behaviour and conduct from the person of Gukesh that even Magnus could learn from and be improved by.
Magnus Calculatorson
Mqgnus, the lazy, superior calculator. Gukesh, just a smooth operator 🎶🎷
Magnus Calculsen
My brain cannot calculate how many times he said calculates
And that's why he's the GOAT, because he's going to play by intuition, a move you did not account for in your calculation
I'd like to be that lazy 😅
Video and all the comments remind me of this Kraftwerk lyric: "I am the operator of my pocket calculator" 😂
That's why he's doing much worse in lower time controls
imagine someone doesn't know he's talking about chess
This is a low key diss, but not too bad, he leaves room for Gukesh to grow into understanding of the game.
He calculates
His opponent will go 100% mistake after his move 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What’s crazy about magnus is he plays chess by feeling the moves in his nuts, his calculation is just intuition
Lol
Magnus does not use calculator
Calculator use magnus
Sounds like quite a Calculator.
So this just means Magnus is good at both calculating and understanding:)
The point he's making is that he's at the point of seeing a lot more patterns then most, these aren't calculations. His brain kind of just clicks "Oh, i've seen a variation like this before, I know how this plays out in say 10 moves roughly, this is good for me," he sees move patterns and opportunities as a passive exercise intuitively that others have to calculate, but he doesn't some moves feel good, some feel bad, he's intuitive.
Intuitions is really just imbedded subconscious calculation through reptition though... Where it will fail is in completely novel patterns, that's where the younger players will start getting the advantage.
The thing is, part of the reason Magnus's endgames are unbreakable is because really there isn't too much new under the sun in small piece number endgame calculation. Granted Stockfish is better than Magnus obviously, but, its not impossible that humans will just intuit the correct strategies for nearly all endgame possibilities eventually and be close to on par with the engines "solving" of all engames under a certain piece count (With a bit more error for humans in the few niche ones that completely defy all other patterns).
That said, getting to the endgame with enough pieces to have winning odds in a perfect game set is a totally different matter. Thats where the backing off of calculation will "slowly" lead others to eventually surpass Magnus, though, I don't suspect any time soon.
Yeah :)
I would say that he calculates too when it is needed. If you do not recognize position, intuition would not help, simple
magnus C. doesnt calclulate bc he knows the magnus effect will make him win in the end anyway
so Magnus is implying that there are other strategies besides just calculation
He said he was same in early days

I think calculation is good and bad, its tedious and exhausting, but on the other hand its fun when you come up with great moves that you are sure will work.
Capa was the same way the stronger he got the less he calculated. That eventually came around to bite him tho in the match vs Alekhine.
He's a lazy calculator because he's integrated it. His brain still does the calculations, but he's gotten so used to it that it's basically background noise to his thoughts.
It's like if you're an electrician your whole life. At 50, when you're doing work on your home or someone else's home, you start bypassing all the normal, standard checks and just... go for it, and it works out. It's instinct. Humans have a lot of instincts lacking from other animals, but we're capable of building up extremely intricate instincts.
This also makes magnus more vulnerable to positions he hasn't seen before, because he's gotten used to relying on his instinct and deviation from what he knows (which is absolutely fucking massive) is the only thing that'll consistently catch him off guard. You'd also need to deviate from what he's seen before enough that he can't easily slip the position back to one he's familiar with. His whole line is basically slipping an uncertain position into one where he knows exactly what happens next.
He still wouldn't be bad at it, he'd still do much better than virtually anyone, but I think that's the only way, other than calculating on stockfish's level, you'd have a chance at beating him.
