Magnus Carlsen gives a London System lesson! đ

- From one of Magnus Carlsen's past Banter Blitz sessions he played this cool game where he dominated playing the London System. I reedited the clip with some background music to re-highlight this awesome tutorial how to win with the London system against high rated opponents. Here, with an aggressive pawn pushing strategy. Thanks for watching, liking, and supporting!

Magnus creates theory as he plays
Theory follows Magnus
True
Nice instructive game
Magnus IS the theory.
This man just casually walked 2 pawns straight down the board in the middle of a game and promoted both of them đ±đ€Ż
The position is closed
Yes, it's a well known chess tactic called a pawn storm.
@@vladn6031 thatâs not a tactic tho
@@user-nu1kp8dc1v it is
This guy is going to be good. Really quick learner. One of his best traits

I have never seen the London played this way. I'm gonna try it and lose lol
Haha best of luck!
it's not the london system. It's the jobava-london where you go for Nb5 and reroute it to a3 later on or go for a kingside expansion to justify putting the knight in front of the pawn if a6 is played. you can check out the theory; it's interesting. In one of Gothamchess' videos, he played a tournament using this opening. It's also a favorite of Hans nieman
@@duskgleam4634 jobava London is still a London. To me, the novelty was the g and h pawns both on the 6th rank, where every combination was losing for black.
Same. đ
@@duskgleam4634 Hans nieman đ
I can only watch in awe as Magnus casually destroys highly rated opponents.
He makes it look so easy
He controlled the whole board with few moves
Thats what happens when you block in your bishop
@@Elamado97 no no. That depends on both their playstyle and opening/defense they are using. Take for example the Sicilian defense, some of it's lines have black letting white get a lot of control intentionally
@@Elamado97 Prag isnt equally as good as magnusđ
@@Elamado97 Magnus doesnât quickly do anything, he simply applies pressure at appropriate moments and keeps things sensible while the opponent has to deal with it. Black wasnât forced to do anything in the opening, London System gave him ample time to get organised. But he didnât organise well when given the chance. Thatâs not offence. Thatâs just principled play.
@@Elamado97 and what are you doing? đ
"I'm a quick learner that is one of the good things about me" Magnus is also the master of understatement.
That was insane!
Thanks for watching boss! I know I'm an average chess player so I'm going to be reediting others lessons and adding music/cutting them up to give them value again. Check back for some sick stuff coming up!
At the end of the video he said he castled on move 15, he instantly remembered when he castles on what exact move đ€Ż
Maybe, but he could be looking at a report also. I know players write their moves down when playing offline
moves made are on the screen as you play.

that 5:01 G6-H7 pawn move, was better than an action movie scene
Beautiful! Castling looked scary, but man that h6 move was brutal!
His kingside pawns literally went from the second rank all the way to the seventh rank and ended there
Wild right? They just kept getting stronger as the game went on.
With a funny switcheroo on the seventh rank!
Flawless h6 move so clean so casual. There is not another like him and never will be
It's just that easy(4 Him).
there will be another, people said the same about Fischer and Kasparov
h6 ain't special move.... Its easy to find
He's certainly the best, but if want to see magic in chess then watch Mikhail Tal games
@@rahultalreja242 Oh i love mikhail tal! The tiger! Great offensive player he is definitely top 10
The background music is so soothing I slept the first 2times trying to watch this video!
Makes it look so easy. Nice.
Magnus is awesome! It is so much fun to watch. It would be cool to see how his mind works in other things.
Pay attention to the trial and how he handled everything surrounding it.

he plays poker and is quite good at it.
There's a good chance he has some abnormal circuitry and thus some significant deficits--not just the best brain ever. Very very good brain, too, of course.
The piano in the background is just cold.
I like how both hikaru and magnus destroy their opponents in ways totally different: magnus has deep and elegant tactics while hikaru has viciously violent moves
And when they play they make it look so logical and easy, especially as they are explaining while they are doing it.
But when I try to copy some of their tactics I still get destroyed.
â@@vanmatthijsyou gotta try to copy the thinking but not the tactics. That's just pure calculating and those guys aren't humans when it comes to that
Hikaru just looks to play like that thanks to his Mongol roots.

Appreciate the comment thanks
That was brutal đź
"SO the objective evaluation is that i'm completely winning" HAHAHA I love that
One of Black's blunders was first attacking with his bishop move to A6 before he castled. He needed to castle and get his king back behind protection; along with getting his roukes supporting each other. Plus, he allowed Carlsen to manuever so many of his pieces into position for attacking the king side while pushing his pawns forward. He needed to stop that by trading off pieces to blunt the attack and getting one of his knight positioned to defend that side. But, of course, that is much easier understood in restrospect compared to while it is happening.
Amazing acceleration of thought! With such ease, he attacked the king side. I am going to have to use this in my next game!
Very instructive nice

Funny thing is...he played the line Hans Niemann recommended in his Jobava London Course

It would be so demoralizing playing Magnus. The game is just cruising along, and then suddenly you're in big trouble out of nowhere.
For real
I love you Magnus you are a genius thank you for the lesson. đ
Love the elevator music gee reminds me to do my x-mas shopping early i suppose

sounds like startup menu music for a darksouls title. Or anything Hollow Knight. Super relaxing if it didnât trigger dodge-roll reflexes
5âŠBb4 is probably better than 5âŠBe7; white typically responds with 6.Nge2 to avoid doubled pawns, and then after the bishop later gets kicked with a3, it retreats to e7, reaching positions similar to the game but the white knight on e2 is less optimally placed than on f3.
