The Footballer Who Made Interpol's 'Most Wanted' List

- In November 2018, Hakeem al-Araibi was arrested after his flight from Australia landed in Bangkok, after the government of Bahrain requested that Interpol put out a 'red notice' for his arrest.
Al-Araibi previously played international football for Bahrain, before fleeing persecution to become a refugee in Australia, where he now plays semi-professional soccer in Melbourne.
In this documentary, HITC Sevens examines Bahrain's political unrest and the wider Arab Spring of 2011 through the lens of football and Hakeem al-Araibi's struggles. - Sport
I remember following this in Australia as it happened. Craig foster is legend for consistently making sure it got into the news and thankfully he was finally freed
This documentary is extremely so informative as the footballer who wanted to create democracy through the power of the human rights in Bahrain was being a target by the Interpol which was extremely so wrong by them but thankfully,he was being released and I wish him all the very best daily in his studies, career and rest of his life and ever, good friends!!!:-D
yessss good friend!!!
@@TheMcCats Thanks and how are you,good friend?:-D

Hey Alfie, I think you should start a short Documentary journalism channel where you present the audience with videos like this everyday if your employer doesn't want content this far removed from mainstream football content. I love these videos and hope for more good content in the future. cheers
Every day may be a little too much work for him, probably spent a few days on this video alone.
Excellent video Alfie - this format is just as good as the purely football videos.
I'd imagine this video probably took a week to research, write, record and edit - But a Football channel dedicated to the weirder and more unknown side of the sport would be very interesting.
@@TheMixCurator his work does for unnoticed, I do agree a place for these sort of productions would be great

I used to live in Bahrain (now in England Middlesbrough and I silently protest their government when I can) and grew up during the protests, and this is one of the most honest videos I have seen of it. And it broke my heart as just a 7year old to see it, I remember it vividly playing football, and because of the police violence they threw tear gas near us near at few peaceful protesters, and that was so normal for me that me and my mates went inside and said “we are getting tear gassed again” what shouldn’t be a normal thing, and that was the final straw on the camels back for my family and we moved out soon after it was to dangerous not because the protesters where after us decent amount of them liked us because we supported them but that we feared the government would escalate stuff to the point of it being unsafe for my family but I really hope Bahrain improves soon but I doubt it will any time soon. Thanks for this video 🇧🇭
Bahrain is far more improved through what Iran and its militants did to my country. I’m not saying in anyway that our system is perfect, it’s just batter than a few of our neighbors. Thankfully Bahrain has jumped back and became stronger. But there are holes in this story he’s telling every viewer Iran prompted this “uprising”
I'm sorry about the weather, especially in Middlesbrough, but I hope life is better for you here.
@@DJMavis I was always going to move the Middlesbrough my family is British even in a weird way I am from Bahrain. But not really, but my life in Bahrain was cut short what really made me sad as I had to leave my dog behind with another family ;( RIP angel
Also the weather is shite in Middlesbrough I can completely agree with you
@@talalalmuslemani9359 Yea Ik but it's still not perfect better than what It was because I don't think seeing a 3story high burning tires on the way to school should be a normal thing. But I like seeing Bahrain slowly get better! Hope it reaches it's full potential
Craig Foster’s efforts in campaigning for Hakeem’s release deserves more recognition. Hakeem will always have a home here in Australia. I just hope his Countrymen get to enjoy the same freedom and safety soon. I also hope that the Government of my adopted country starts treating refugees better. Both seem unlikely at present.
Mate on my opinion Craig foster is a moron who knows nothing about football and has an extremely over inflated opinion of himself I can't stand him having said all that this issue is much bigger than football and though I might not like him he has my undying respect for what he did to help this man
I find it fascinating how I came for the football-related news but instead get presented this highly-researched and interesting content. Thank you!
I'm from Bahrain, and this was right on the money great journalism brother cheers
This is really informative... You should consider making a playlist at least of 'politics in football', which me (and many others) will be happy to binge it... Great work, man .. just fantastic amount of research!
After 10 minutes I was so interested in Bahrain's recent struggles I literally forgot this was about a footballer.
Always love these types of videos over "Top 7 goal keepers from istanbul that played in the K league" regardless tho I alwys love the vids. Nothing but love, keep up the good work!
I enjoy and appreciate the more "mainstream" content but it's Alfie's journalistic work that makes this channel something special. I hope eventually he is able to concentrate on the journalism side of things because he has the talent and (it would seem) motivation to tell these stories, and they are stories that need to be told. And not many other people seem to be telling them.
I'll gladly listen to both, but I think one pays for the other, both literally and in goodwill
I don’t think it’s possible for anyone to say backrain more times.
It’s not backrain, it’s Bahrain and it’s pronounced barain. Alifie just doesn’t know what he’s talking about
@@talalalmuslemani9359 I know mate, the fantastic and glorious new owners of my club Wigan are from there.
I was taking the piss out of Alfie via sarcasm 👍
@@talalalmuslemani9359 I’m glad I’m not the only one who was frustrated by this
Can we get a what on Earth is going on at Burnley? It feels like the new ownership that promised so much could well be sending them down while ruining the finances of what was a stable club which is going under the radar
It's just Dyche playing football fit for the National Leagues
@@romiarkan450 amazing how when he was backed in previous years he has regularly kept them in the premier league and even took them to Europe then
They were a well-run club now the old trick buy the club by borrowing against it hardly a fit and proper person
@@romiarkan450 grow up ye weirdo
@@romiarkan450 Um.....then explain how they stayed up in previous years when this year, it seems like the new ownership is doing boo in order to support him. Somehow, I get the feeling they will appoint Frank Lampard as a big name and blame Dyche. Not to mention they pulled a Glazers and bought the club with debt that they charged against the club, not themselves. If Burnley play in League One within the next 5 years under this ownership, I wouldn't be surprised.
Absolutely one of your best. I was vaguely aware of this story at the time, but in no detail. I don't think I even knew what started the Arab Spring.
It's also a tricky balance to make parts of a video about despots, dictatorships and torture, funny. But it was and in places that weren't in poor taste. That's a skill!
Im from Bangkok and I remember this being big on the news back in 2019. Great research as usual!
All I will say is, if I was a refugee, I wouldn't travel overseas for a long time. There is so much to see in Australia anyway.
I am glad it ended well. Great Video.
That's exactly what I thought
These type of videos are my favorite of yours. Thanks for making them!
Another great video, I really enjoy these type of documentaries that make this the best football channel.
Another cracking video, Alfie. Absolutely brilliant.
Such an interesting video. Had seen the # previously but had no idea what it was about. Love these types of videos.
I'm always looking forward for these type of videos
keep up the good work bro
What a brilliant video, well detailed and accurately put together.
Aaah a nice football documentary to start the day off :) cheers !
I have to say you're videos are very interesting, informative and entertaining.. very well done 👏
These are my favourite HiTC 7s videos . I have learnt so much from these types of videos especially concerning human rights and the forever changing political landscape.
This is the best football channel in the world
Firstly great video!
Secondly, I recently visited Hamburg and the Sankt Pauli area. I thought it'd be cool to tell the people I was with about the football club and the fan links to political movements, including the ~rivalry with Hansa Rostock. They said I have among the best random knowledge they've seen! For that, I want to thank you, Alfie 👍🏾
Thank you for this video. Such a great job :)
Never thought of this topic, keep the good job Alfie 👌
As a melbournian I was so excited to see this video come up!
Same
Sad.
Viewer from bahrain here, very impressive and detailed video. A couple of mis-informations here and there but overall spot on 👌
Excellent content. Well done. You should’ be recognised positively for this stuff. You should write for The Athletic
@4:50 an awesomely surreal and mental football club logo... LOVE IT!
Incredible video as always
STRONG item! Love the fact that you took the work on you to make this docu! It's different but a good thing that politics are not a no go for you!
It’s a good story, but a lot of holes I wouldn’t call it a documentary
Excellent research as always ✊
Please do a video about the Portuguese 'club' , 'Belenenses SAD' , that recently went to a game with only 9 players against Benfica .Its a 'fake' club playing in the First League , but the 'Original' club had to start in the Non League Portuguese Football .
Really interesting video. Nice work.
What a great documentary. Outstanding.
Very good video! Pure quality!
Take a look at 7 teams that won UCL after qualifying without winning their local league!
Hold on, are you saying that football is corrupt?
I'm shocked to the core.
Next you'll be saying that playing World Cup matches in 50°C temperatures is less than ideal.
excellent video man this is a documentary
Could you do: 7 3-way transfers, 7 best underdog youth league runs or 7 luckiest players- talent in comparison to titles won or players played with. Thanks
11:25 as a Saudi I can say that this is rather a miss understanding. Saudi Arabia has been ruled by Al saoud family since 1744 but we divide the by 3 phases and the last one is like what you said have been around for 91 years.
Excuse my weak language.
Been so busy, haven't been able to tune in for a minute! Saw this thumbnail and thought; "Perfick!" 😁
this might be the best one yet
Just what I needed right now!
Ok, I'm just speculating here, but my guess to why Thailand is cuddling to Bahrain in this case might be because the Thai monarchy is facing the same issue. it is also an offence for a Thai to insult the monarch (with imprisonment), as they are very revered there, much more than Bahrain's own. So if the Thai gov don't extradite Hakeem, it would be an irony since they punish their own citizen for doing the exact same thing.
You're not wrong at all, the Thailand case is a complete mess. These so called monarchs have an undying quest for power and would do anything and everything, to fight anyone who dares to challenge them really sad what's happening.
Beautiful work!! That sub-Saharan club Best XI would really be the cherry on top, though!
Great work geez 👌🏾
God, just hearing about the monarchs all coming together to keep the Bahraini emir in charge gave me real Tarquinus Superbus vibes from the history of Rome (context: last king of Ancient Rome, got kicked out by the senate, ran away to another king and said "an attack against one king is an attack against all kings and encouraged the Etruscans to invade Rome for him)
Great vid Alfie!
another great video alfie. i never knew about the sunni/shia divide in bahrain. thank you
Bloody hell this videos out earlier than Hull went out the cup 😜
Can you do a documentary on the afc Wimbledon on the nine promotions in eleven years, how they’re a fan own club and how they have a stadium in plough lane now.
The story of they lost the club, how the F A allowed that and won’t allow that anymore.
How they went up the English football leagues.
From the thumbnail I thought Cancelo had joined forces with Mendy at PrisonFC 😂
Once again: great job; we should never forget that being a human is more important than football
Nice one 🙂
Great video Alfie fellow hullensian here keep flying that flag
Fun Fact: The protests in Bahrain actually CANCELLED the 2011 Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix.
For those of you who are completely confused as to what Formula 1 is, it is a car racing series. There are actually many links between football and F1. For example, in 2011 Chelsea brought a minor share of Sauber F1 Team and in 2012 became one sponsor for the team. They left F1 by 2015.
Really who doesn’t know what F1 is mate I don’t see why you have to explain as though you’re intellectually superior to others, it just makes you look arrogant imo
@@timsmith1323 It's not really just Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton. It's way more.
@@k4bster087 what you on about mate when did I mention those 2 again that’s another arrogant comment assuming I only follow F1 because of those 2 when I’m older than that and have been following F1 since senna mansel and prost where racing
@@timsmith1323 ok but this video is for football fans and who don't have a clue about other sports so explanation is needed

I have never heard Bahrain pronounced like that. It feels like you were saying it as much as possible on purpose. Maybe this is the correct way but I couldn't finish the video.
I remember reading about him on Twitter
Can you make a video about football under the gaddafi regime
love this one
You forgot Dinamo Zagreb‘s club boss Mafiosi Zdravko Mamić and his brother Zoran Mamić
I boycott all football nowadays. The sport I loved playing throughout my life is, at the professional level, something like a distributed cancer, emanating from parasites the likes of whom featured in this video.
It's maybe ironic that this channel still entertains me - mainly by reinforcing my beliefs - but I'm content with that.
Good reportage as always, Alfie 👍
You’re making bahrain seem like a rural place. Bahrain has many metropolitan cities and a great European foreign population
I don't think that's what he was trying to convey, do you?
@@PL7802 he's not guilty of that, sadly bahrain despite its outward mordenity is still well behind the rest of the world in terms of civil liberties.

@5:18 about Bahrain's citizens and population MAKES NO SENSE WHATSOEVER!
A clumsy attempt at showing the discrepancy between imported muslims and native muslims?? I don't get it...
What a story.
You should really make your own channel where you talk about things like this more even if they have nothing to do with football
7 greatest footballers in their prime?can you plz make a video on this
He already made a top 100
Here’s a tricky one:
Given the current ridiculousness of games in the premier league being postponed for barely any reason.
7 games that would have been postponed under current Prem rules that went ahead
Shout out to Craig Foster, who still continues his work for recognition of refugees and asylum seekers in Australia
Well done Hakeem. I hope he successfully sues our gutless and completely useless government. Unlikely but we'll see, I'm no legal expert. I'm glad hakeem is back although I have to wonder if a holiday to Thailand or anywhere was a particularly smart move. Big respect to Foster. Without I doubt Hakeem would be living in Aus right now as a refugee. What a shame that it's the goodwill of the people that have to fight tooth and nail for such a small piece of justice to be served. When even the government tried to throw him to the wolves
Became big news for a bit here in Thailand regarding Araibi. Damn embarassinf what our government did by detaining him, but since our government is a junta tyrant that came from a coup as well, it's not that surprising. Glad he got released back to Australia.
I'm starting to think Alfie watched way to much of the investigator Tin Tin when growing up haha, digging deep into the murky world of politics, and oppression to bring us this absolute gem.
Day 334 Ways to fix VAR with your suggestions
Alfie this is an admirable attempt at an intense and pyrrhic story of another praiseworthy political struggle but certain details are clumsy and don't make immediate sense...(as at 5:18 re population). It sets an awkward tone to the rest of the piece...
But I really commend the content like this on this channel...keep it up...
this is my league in australia
Very sad story, but good ending. He got his freedom after spending so much time in Thai prisons, they have some of the worst conditions. The young man went through so much and kudos to former Socceroos captain who campaigned for him.
as a libyan this arab spring has destroyed lives and football for us
From my perspective it was the interference and destabilization by the US and its allies (because of oil) in Libya not the Arab Spring per se that broke Libya apart...
