@NataleeCallahan. No I wouldn't of changed out the countertops! Not all. Granite? No way hose-a! You could however use stone cold countertop make over!?? Idk if that something you would want to do. I love Subway tile. I love the Beadboard. You think that could be used as shiplap? Just asking and wanting to get your professional opinion. I love your decor style and you are AMAZING at what you do. But if you wanted a gray and white with black mixed in you could change the color out with A stone Cold countertop kit! Your professional preference. Leave them like they are. They are still gorgeous!

I love how you worked with your counters. I really don't understand why on so many shows they tear things out even when their new. There is always a way to work around it to make it your asthetic. Definitely more economical. Reality not everyone can afford to do that and having a positive way up think out of the box to update.

So true! Countertops are a huge expense. I think the only way I would do that is if it was going to be my forever home… Then I might be willing to make the investment, but even still I would do everything in my power to try to save the countertops so that somebody else could possibly reuse them.😃💕

Me too. Actually I detest busy granite counters (& crazy pattern in general), but love a solid surface. Your gold accents, the stunning arabesque tile & all your decor accessories dramatically improved this area. The ebony cabinets are so handsome. You made it very inviting. Beautiful Board & Batten too. Well done!!!
      👏👏👏👏👏👏

You have stolen my heart- I would not change the granite. There is so much needless waste and when someone with vision can make the best of the situation I applaud them. (hands clapping as I don't have emojis on my computer) Good for you. It is very different when the stone has worn down or the surface has been compromised and is unsafe. Your channel is the epitome of making creative solutions.

Natalie, this is awesome! I was so pleased to see you do your backslashes yourself. Years ago I hired a wonderful work man to redo the kitchen. And I watched him do the backsplash and I thought, well, duh, I could’ve done it myself and saved all that money. It really isn’t very hard and the outcome is incredible! Something I learned from Christopher Lowell years ago is that when you have an element like your countertop - don’t hide it - actually figure out small ways to pull it into the room and emphasize it! He did a 1920s bathroom with all the 1920s green and black tile everywhere and when he was finished it was amazing, yet he never changed one of the main elements. It was a great lesson and you have incorporated the same thing into the door cabinet knobs and handles and the edges on the backsplash just pulled all of that together, and it is truly beautiful. I love the accents of the antique Jadeite. They are so calm and lovely. You’ve done a great job and I love the fact that you’ve done it like most of us, use, reuse, and put the money in the best place. Thank you so much for sharing!

    • @designedtothenines
      @designedtothenines  Před 4 lety +1

Wow! What a great comment. I used to love watching Christopher Lowell when he had his show. I learned a lot from him as well. I really didn’t love the gold countertops before, but you’re right… Working with them and finding other beautiful elements to go with it really make them stand out now. And while I might not have picked them myself they really now work in the space. Thanks for watching!

That’s why I kind of addressed it upfront. Because I do know that it’s on the larger side of small. I’ve had one and that’s probably 1/4 the size 1/3 of the size before and another 1/2 the size, the kitchen I had before this was a lot bigger. Hopefully you were still able to get some ideas.😃

You make the projects look easy. I appreciate the fact that you share about the obstacles and how you overcome them. After watching your videos, I tackled a project of removing wallpaper in a small bathroom (it was coming loose in the shower and I didn’t like the color. It was in the house when we purchased it.). So, I removed 2 layers of paper on the walls and 4 layers of border. I then textured the walls, copying the texture throughout the house, and painted. I still need to caulk but that will come soon. It was my first time to remove wallpaper of that magnitude and definitely my first time to texture. I watched YT videos and I’m proud to say it came out very nice. Thank you for your inspiration to be courageous and just go for it. 💕

NO DONT RIP OUT THE GRANITE! That’s COSTLY and Ridiculous! Love what you did with the cabinets. We would have tried to build an open shelf cabinet and paint, stain to match the other cabinets, no doors where your clock is, gives more storage, cookbooks and store more jadeite there too, then maybe move the clock over to the left more or go for a smaller clock. Love the wall you did going up the stairs, I want to do this to a guest bedroom wall behind the bed. Our master bedroom wall already has vertical shiplap with a cute ledge in it. We are now working on the master bath linen closet that use to be a tiny shower stall, turned the garden tub into a walk in shower. We hired out because so much tile work made me feel exhausted, we are older than you and I have bad knees, hubby is very impatient. Can’t work with him on long, time consuming projects. It’s a nightmare and he’s not going to change, so we had the funds and hired out. We love our new bathroom, but need to declutter the linen closet and underneath the sinks in that lower cabinet, then figure out what kind of doors we can put up there for the linen closet alcove, might need to make them, it looks like. Thanks for the ideas. Looking for more real live greenery for our house. We have green thumbs, so we love plants, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas cactus, Mother in law tongue, philodendron and huge Lily plants. They are super easy to care for and transplant easy too. We are so ready for Valentine’s Day, hubby is getting me some indoor plants and another rose Bush for the yard. No more huge amounts of candy and I don’t need another pc of jewelry. Our Anniversary is the end of this month, going some where, not sure where yet. I put covers on our countertop appliances, Amazon has them in matching sets for great low prices, you can sew them yourself as you are handy like that. I don’t sew, unless it’s buttons or hems, do that by hand.

I would’ve probably made the same decision and left the granite for now. To be honest it’s quite muted now that you upgraded and your eye goes to all the great finishes! Looks great!

Love the tile you picked for your backsplash, it looks very dramatic, and it would of also looked great all the way up the wall as well...

You did an amazing job thank you so much for sharing your DIY project and your backsplash is professional and the answer to your question about the granite you did the right thing to remove it to get a professional clean look.

I love how your kitchen turned out!! Your design sense and your fearless confidence in power tool welding, always leave me in awe. 😉 Wish I was as confident. I usually just point my husband at anything requiring power tools and electricity. I think I would have ripped out the granite! Don’t get me wrong, that would definitely be expensive and probably “wasteful” but I’ve learned over my lifetime of settling, you’re not going to be happy with results long term. If you can afford it now.....do it! Your home should always be a sanctuary; especially in the times we’re in, right now. You’re home should always reflect who you are and make you happy to be there.

Great job with all of the updates. I personally don’t care for your countertops but can totally understand your reasoning behind keeping them. Replacing them with something less yellow and busy would be on my shortlist for future projects.

I love the tiles you used to coordinate to the counter top. You did such an awesome job on the wall you added the masonite to . There is one thing I think you might be able to do in the future, That would possibly be a solution to a pantry issue you said you were hoping to have. The masonite wall with the beautiful molding could be used to build out a floor to ceiling cupboard all along that wall with a door or doors, or even a barn style doors it could be shallow, ( book case depth) and it would give you the much needed cupboard space to store things. I couldn’t really tell how much space there is between the wall and kitchen. Either way it turned out very beautiful.

Mrs. Natalee!!! You are a great inspiration to me and many others! I simply love how you demonstrate completing 'expensive' home remodeling jobs using numerous power tools. Your kitchen looks fantastic, welcoming and very functional! I too would love to have a LARGE butler's pantry, and I want a summer kitchen leading out to the lanai and pool. (I live in NE Florida.) What fun it would be to design and create those features, then sit back and enjoy them! Thank you so much for sharing your wonderful talents and opening up your beautiful home to all of us.
    Peace and blessings! ~L 💖😍
