The Volkswagen Arteon FLOPPED. Here’s why.

  • The Volkswagen Arteon should’ve sold better but it was a flop. Did Bad Marketing Ruin the the Vw Arteon?
    In a world where sedans were suddenly trying to be coupes and coupes were trying to be... well, something else entirely, Volkswagen thought, "Hey, why not join the party?"
    Thus, the Volkswagen Arteon was born, a sleek and stylish attempt to cash in on a trend that had everyone scratching their heads. With its elongated contours and pretensions of exclusivity, the Arteon strutted onto the scene, ready to make a statement. But alas, it seemed to have missed the memo on what exactly that statement was supposed to be.
    At first glance, the Arteon seemed like the love child of a sports car and a luxury sedan, but upon closer inspection, it was more like the awkward third wheel at a family reunion. Sure, it had all the trappings of a premium ride-a turbocharged engine, snazzy trim options, and a name that sounded like it belonged in a Latin textbook-but it somehow missed the mark. Maybe it was the front-wheel drive confusion in a world where rear-wheel drive reigned supreme, or perhaps it was the hefty price tag that had consumers scratching their heads. Whatever it was, the Arteon seemed to suffer from a severe case of mistaken identity.
    In the end, the Volkswagen Arteon taught us a valuable lesson: sometimes, it's better to stick with what you know than try to reinvent the wheel. While it may not have revolutionized the sedan game, it certainly left an impression, albeit a slightly confused one. So, if you're in the market for a sedan that's more style than substance, the Arteon might be worth a second look. Just don't expect it to blow your socks off-or your budget. And remember, when it comes to cars, sometimes it's best to leave the Latin to the scholars and stick with good old-fashioned horsepower.

    I bought a ‘23 Premium brand new because I heard production was ending. I got the dealer invoice price, so around 49k. There’s no other car on the market that has all of the features of the Premium trim, 300hp, DSG, AWD, semi-autonomous driving and a hatchback for that price. The only comparable car was a Kia Stinger and I wouldn’t be caught dead in one.
    With a slightly de-tuned Golf R engine, but more room and luxury, in 10-15 years I’m willing to bet I can sell this car to an enthusiast for big money. This review will end up being the true flop - mark my words.

    I have an Arteon. I like it quite a lot but there are issues. The new price for a non-Premium brand is obviously the biggest problem but there are many others. The interior quality and ambience is poor: there are rattles and creaks. Reliability is average at best with lots of issues with infotainment and electronics, particularly steering wheels in face lift models. The DSG gearbox (no torque converter here in Europe) is great but I've heard of a number of mechatronic failures resulting in repairs costing many thousands. The ride is excellent but it's not at all sporty. The design of the car is very dependent on colour. The yellows and deep reds are real head-turners but my silver Arteon just blends into the masses.

      I too have a silver Arty, and I do agree with what your saying. I do wish to eliminate those rattles. Did you do something about those rattles? Cuz I have OCD and it’s making me mad! Lol but one thing is for sure, there are very very few Arty’s out there, as for Audi S5 I see one at every corner!

    I purchased a lightly used premium SEL R line recently.
    I have to say this is a fantastic vehicle in the mid $30k range.
    I can think of no new vehicle on the market, in that price range that will come close in overall quality and features. The new Accords and Camry's feel like toy cars by comparison.
    I wouldn't buy one at $50k...but below $40k, its a no brainer.
    So far the insurance coverage cost is the only con I've seen.

    The biggest issue was the price. It entered Audi and BMW territory but it was a VW. Depreciation has rocked these cars. I just purchased a 23’ SEL R-Line with 10k miles for $32K.

      Niiiceee! VW as a whole is going down but since depreciation is killing the prices, might be time to think about one.

    I bought a '23 SEL Premium and love it! I could have bought an Audi A7 but I couldn't justify $40,000 more for the Audi. Some people need the little rings on the front but couldn't care less. The Arteon is 80% what the A7 is. Plus with two boys with long legs the back seat cannot be beaten by any car out there.

    its quite simple. the price. masses are willing to pay the same price for entry level but worst BBA cars but not this. if it was priced lower, it would of been a swipe.

      Yep, it was priced too high. Same fate as the Phaeton.

    You hit a lot of things spot on in this video! I had a 13 CC from dang near brand new and up to 95k miles before it got totaled. It was you stated a niche car... I had to take it in for the Tata airbag recall and test drove the "new" Arteon" I loved the look of and updates from my CC but with the 8 speed I left disappointed. fast forward a year or so I got in my accident and came across a 22 MY with the updated transmission and power upgrade..and fell in love!
    With insurance payout for the CC and talking the dealer down a bit I was able to purchase a 22 with 4k for 20K. A really good deal that a year later I am very happy with.
    The car runs great looks and does so many things well.. But looking at it realistically VW shot themselves in the for 1) not offering the good engine output and gearbox.
    2) and most importantly they over priced it by 10 grand. On the used market these can be great value... but for $50k brand new people are going to pony up a little more for an Audi, or pay less for the more conventional and reliable Honda or Toyota options.

    I disagree with your comment I just bought one with the launch and features it offers very comparable to Mercedes and Audi I've own both never owned a VW actually hated them until I drove the Arteon has great adjustment for a big guy like my self and very peppy does have a lag on take off but does pick up quick

      Depends on what your looking for out of the car. Prioritize what you want most then compare the two and see what each model offers. It’s always better to buy a newer car than older imo

      It was their halo car replacing the CC and Passat. There’s still a few out there, but it’s a Golf R with comfy Cabin.

  • @andersonnascimento939
    @andersonnascimento939 Před 14 dny

    Well... People say price was the problem. If price was really the problem, you can find low miles 2019 in the low $20ks. the 2022 ones with the mk8 golf R engine is touching below $30Ks. That is an absolute bargain for the performance it delivers. I guess it won't sell still, and this will confirm price was not the only problem.

    • @BrkDownMedia
      @BrkDownMedia  Před 14 dny

      It was more so proximity to Audi than it was the price itself. FWD-Based design and $50k just don’t align well with people’s wallet unfortunately.
