Building my favorite childhood robot --CLANK Part 1
Vložit
- čas přidán 22. 02. 2024
- After wanting him since 2002, playing Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart made me want my own Clank backpack. So I made one. This is part one of my journey into making my first animatronic.
My 3d print files not currently available. Although he may look finished on TikTok and instagram, I am still improving his files. Please be patient as I truck through this process.

It's very rare, but so cool when CZcams actually recommends cool smaller channels like this. Looking forward to part 2!
lol...
i love how cosplayers are always pushing the envelope on their proyects. this was amazing 🙌🏻🙌🏻
Love it. Saw the final result on Instagram last year and he's a wonderful build. Looking forward to part 2!
build one
Hi Dominica. I am so glad this popped up on my homepage today. I used to write Ratchet & Clank for Insomniac (PS3 and PS4 era) and this is so damn cool! I just got started 3d printing myself, and your work is inspired! Keep rocking!
So cool you wrote for them! Thank you!
From the title, I expected a life size build of clank which would have already been awesome. I did not expect for you to make him actually work mechanically. Really cool! Love it!
Thank you for sharing this project! Your tenacity and perseverance in dealing with unexpected issues is motivating and encouraging to try more complicated projects myself.
I'm in love with this project. Ratchet and Clank were some of my all time favorite games.
I love that moment after spending so long doing it wrong somehow and you finally get it working! Watching this flashed my memories of my own breakthroughs. Even when I feel silly having missed something I remind myself that persistence conquers all and I am more unstoppable next time because I know I might be unknowingly on the verge of a breakthrough.
Hey this is a great idea! For the lenses, you can polish them with powdered tooth polish. If its good enough for the lenses on the headlights of a submarine, it should work for your lenses too. A friend of mine a long time ago was a machinist who worked on submarines. He old me he used it to polish the headlight lenses. He had a big tin of it. He used on the headlight/tail light covers on his cars too. The key is to be gentle and remember that its easy to go too fast. Plastic is easy to melt or deform if you get it too hot. But you can get many types of plastic to shine if you are careful.
For the door, if you change the model so that the edge of the door is tapered inward by about one degree on each of the sides except the hinged one. That should solve the closing issues.
You could add domed lenses, like those used for watch faces on top of the eye sockets, with a slight reading prescription it'll make them look round and slightly larger.
Thank you, algorithm gods. I don't do cosplay but this was an immediate subscribe because it's just so cool to see a tenacious maker solving problems like this to create something truly awesome. Looking forward to part 2. Cheers
Using AI to help you get the code done is a clear example of bringing the potential of coding into more people's hands and as a passionate software engineer I am delighted to see this work for you.
I made a beep-o (from rabbid+mario franchise) a few years ago (before chat gpt) with a shell and a robot undeneeth with arduino that i tried to make remote controlled. But never got the arduino code to work. Never thought that chat gpt might help with coding such a good idea.
I love that you show the iterations and fails. This is so relatable when you're making cosplay stuff. Also I loved the magnet door snap. Very satisfying.
Nice work plugging through all those challenges and making so much progress! It's already looking quite good, remaining challenges notwithstanding, so.... looking forward to part 2!
Great job so far! You're doing a great job tackling random glitches and that's the hallmark of a successful maker.
I believe you'll be successful. I also now want to print a Clank model!
That's an awesome project! Beautiful lenses for the eyes as well. One piece of advice to release the prints from the bed: drip a little bit of IPA alcohol around the edges of the stuck print and it will wick in between and slowly release the print over the course of a minute. It can be such a pain to release prints without a flexible bed, but this technique works for both FDM/FFF and resin printers :)
isopropyl alcohol alcohol
@@funy0n583Yes, I always add it so people don't think I'm talking about IPA beer 🙃
Thanks will try that, I have already scratched the plate badly by using too much force.
What an original idea and how nice to see you working with familiair and working around some new and unfamiliair concepts. Good video, good editing, you deserve a bugger audience imo. I was happy CZcams suggested this video. Looking forward to part 2!
clank is my favorite rac character, and just one of my fave characters in general! i'm so fond of him and excited to see the rest of this project :]
as someone who absolutely loved Ratchet and Clank as a child, thank you this is super cool to see you do this in real life!
This video was actually really interesting, the way you got him running
I love Ratchet & Clank. This is awesome.
Clank is my personal favorite character in Ratchet and Clank! But my hope is that their adventure has only just begun.
This is utterly amazing! Congratulations! What an achievement!!
Amazing work!
It's great to see you soldier on through the inevitable setbacks that arise during such a worthwhile project.
4:50 those are the moments that make it all worth while. 😄
That is serene I never played that Ratchet and Clank game when I was a kid but that is serene and very good ! btw
고요하네요 저는 어렸을 때 Ratchet and Clank 게임을 한 번도 해본 적이 없지만 고요하고 아주 좋습니다!
Still THE GREATEST Game Series of ALL TIME!!
Trying to fry that Pi on the couch ? 😂
Also, nicely done on the project :)
Having errors and having stuff NOT work is half the fun :P
It’s like Arduino foreplay 😂
Excellent project. YT finally suggested a channel that was good.
Inspirational! Glad to see more "make it real" creators making videos!
Working on my own project atm, the pain is real. Making an animatronic Clank is probably the coolest thing ever.
Saw the final in your shorts he looks amazing, love him so much! Not sure if you added voice to him but if not it would be cool to add a voice box of some sort if it’s possible. Looking forward to part 2 ❤️
Epic work. Very talented.
You went above and beyond for this one
Very neat so far! The round XIAO displays from Seeed Studio would be perfect eyes for a robot. They have built in sd card readers that can loop video, but they do also need a thumb sized Arduino board plugged in. Super cheap though. I made a virtual snow globe with one of mine 🤓
This is so cool, I always like seeing robotics and animatronics being made, but I’m also a massive ratchet and clank fan! I just had to subscribe so I don’t miss part two!
Very excited to see how he turns out.
What an amazing project 🤩, you sure like a challenge! Definitely looking forward to CLANK getting completed. He is so cute.
I LOVE THIS PROJECT! This project is INCREDIBLE I cant wait for more parts!
Clank! Ratchet would be proud
this was also my childhood!! my favorite games of all time was the first game and deadlocked 😈
Wow, great job. Very fun to watch.....loved the coding section and all the issues.....I've dealt with the same thing at times.
Awesome vid; thanks for sharing the various development & evolution stages. Your tenacity is inspiring 🤩
tbh loving the information on your 3d printing troubleshooting
This is a really cool project. I'm excited to see more of the build as you post it. I enjoy James Burton's stuff a lot, and the work you're putting into making Clank a functioning animatronic is amazing. I would have never thought to use clear resin to make actual lenses, and the shots of the eyes once you got them in the head were astonishing. Thanks again for the high effort build.
Great project, I love clank! Can't wait to see the rest!
exactlyyyyy youtube algorithm has blessed us tonighhhhttt
Loved seeing the journey, super cool project!
3D printed optics, going to have to try that.
I'm so lit up by you!!! New Fan Wizard here! Thank you for sharing your journey. It's perfect for us. I'm encouraged to try for the projects i keep putting off. 🙌🏽👏🏽💜
This was fantastic, I really enjoyed watching the overall design process.
This is awesome. This video is about to blow up I can tell. There's so much effort and passion in the project. I love it!
You did an awesome work! Very inspiring and motivating. Great job! Now I'm curious and moving to see part 2😄
This is a courageous and impressive success tackling a multi-disciplinary project. I hope lots of beginners are ecouraged and inspired to press ahead and teach themselves to do challenging projects at the limit of their past experience. Obviously you've got many skills but I think the most valuable skill you demonstrate is fearless persistence. So many people give up or never try, especially people who have come to believe that this stuff is "not for them", especially when that is a result of their culture excluding them based on irrelevant identity stuff.
Great project, looking forward to seeing it progress. Very inspiring stuff!
Sunday Slays Cosplay, This video is fantastic! I liked it a lot!
Thank you!
Love it! you got a great concept and beautiful work
Amazing. My favorite as well. Nice job.
Really well done! I liked seeing how many different crafting elements had to come together to make this one.
9:10 I never sand or file anything anymore, even when I should. It takes way too long. Dremel everything, even when it has disastrous results!
i'm a big fan of ratchet n clank, i loved watching you make this thank you
amazing work! i love it !
Refreshing to see all the personal protection you are using! Great job! 😎👍
This project is amazing, keep up the awesome work!
Cool project...!!!! Awesome to see another animator like me tackeling this kind of stuff
Amazing! Speechless!
Love the fact you did not give up!
Fantastic build! Good luck!
I can see how you will build the super coolest robot toys for your kids one day, cooler than anything you can buy from china, something Japan will envy, and that NASA would want to take to space with them... What a genius and utterly creative woman... 😮😃🤖
Waiting for part two!!! I loved this part
This is a great build, lots of fun challenges.
literally my childhood dream to have my own Clank, I can't wait to see this project finished it looks amazing
Amazing Project.. Love Ratchet and Clank.
Hi. I really liked your video. I have done many similar projects but from a much different standpoint, not cosply. I tell you, those cheap servos are the bain of our existence! Really enjoyed the failures and perseverance to fix it.
@Sunday Slays Cosplay - maybe they make a flexible bed for the 3D printer the clips on the original bed then just to re-aline the head to the bed, and unclip when removing prints, or if not a clip maybe bolt it down onto the bed, just have to remove everytime... 😕
Outstanding effort! This is so sick!
Amazing! Very inspiring!
Incredible and ambitious project! I just found your channel today and I'll be following for sure!
I love everything about this video ❤ Well done.
really well made Slay! its cool to see the work behind making this bot
He is so cute, can't wait for the finished version!
Nice build! Something you can try to remove stuck prints from the build plate is to pour very hot, almost boiling water where it is attached to build plate. Someone else also mentioned pouring alcohol where it is attached, which seems like a good way that i havent tried yet.
counterweight or the head. Neck is just a ball pivot. Action is in the chest.
WOW!!! Nicely done.
Great engineering! I learned a lot.
This was great, thanks for sharing!
This is a nice project. I see that you have been busy doing the 3 aspects of you project, mechanic, electronic and software. Well done
If some one wants to get ambitious an Iron Giant animatronic suit would be interesting and you could probably use this build as a tutorial for the eyes and head.
Don’t step into the light Jack! Don’t step into the light!
Awesome work!
Oh wow! Great job!
Daaaamn i rly love Clank! Nice one ❤
My favorite robot as a kid was Cherry 5000. i got a lot of work ahead of me
Awesome work so far
Excellent work!
Subscribed ! Amazing video. Can’t wait to see the rest
Great job!!
Omg i love him!!!
this is a super cool build
This brings so many ideas for my future projects. Thanks for this. New subscriber
Excellent work❤
