  • For many years, I have dreamed about photographing Alpine wildlife during the brutal grip of winter. This January, I finally made it happen, and went on an eight-day wildlife photography expedition, traveling around to some of the best locations for wildlife photography to be found in the Alps. In this episode - in the company of Mateusz (@mpwildlife) and Laurent (@naturfilms) - I head out on a wild hike through epic, rugged landscapes, in pursuit of the specialist wildlife that call this inhospitable place home.
    The species I photograph in this video are the Alpine ibex and the black grouse.

    It's amazing, thanks for those videos of my home (I live in french Alps), unfortunately I don't have much time to go in mountains during winter (I'm still a student), your photos & videos are just amazing, I'm sure you're the next Morten

      Thanks a lot! I I appreciate that you care, but under no circumstances did we take any big risks. Our safety was of course priority number one, and the images number two. We took our precautions and did not push our luck

    Amazing journey, fantastic images and video. You and your friends definitely have the patience and stamina to capture the essence wildlife in such treacherous terrain. Likely the ibex were comfortable with your relatively awkward human approach compared to their expert ability to navigate the steep, snowy, slippery slopes. They instinctively were aware that your group didn't pose a real threat.

    Is that Haglof jack is enough to protect you from the extreme cold?. Which Haglof Jack you are using?

    • @TobiasGjerde
      @TobiasGjerde  Před 7 měsíci +1

      In this instant, it wasn’t too cold (somewhere beteeen -5 and -10 celsius), so that was no problem. But yes, I use this jacket all the way down to -20 by layering underneath. It’s very thin, so in such cold temperatures, I can’t be static for too long. I’m currently on the look out for a better winter jacket, since this one is more of a three-season jacket… But it gets the job done most of the time.

      @@TobiasGjerde nice thing about european bisons here in Poland is that most of them aren't scared of people, which makes them really fun to photograph. Heavily recomended, would love to see you on a trip to Poland with Mateusz.
