  • Stop putting it off. If you can solve a 3x3, you WILL be able to solve a square-1 with this video. I explain each step as clearly as possible and show you how I memorised it all. Algorithms, summaries and chapter markings below. (Thank you‪@DerpyCuber‬ for checking and approving this tutorial!)

    Andy Klise's Sq-1 guide www.kungfoomanchu.com/guides/a...
    SUMMARY OF EACH STEP
    📙 Step 1: Get the square-1 into cube shape. "Millennium falcon" ➡️ scallop/scallop ➡️ barrel/barrel ➡️ kite/kite ➡️ cube.
📙 Step 2a: Orient the corners so all the yellow (or black) corners are on top and all the white corners are on the bottom. This can be done intuitively. Just make sure you misalign the top or bottom by 1 when slicing so that you retain cube shape.
📙 Step 2b: Orient the edges so that the top is completely yellow (or black) and the bottom is completely white.
(Optional step: If you can recognise that you will get parity, perform the "mid solve" parity alg here)
📙 Step 3a: Permute the corners so that they're all in the correct positions and only the edges need fixing. There are 6 possible cases here: diag/diag, adj/diag, adj/adj, adj/solve, diag/solved, and fully solved.
📙 Step 3b: Permute the edges using the magical adj/adj edge algorithm! Almost every case can be solved by using this alg several times. 50% of the time, the cube will be solved here! If you still have 2 edges that cannot by solved, perform the super yucky adjacent parity alg. THE END!
    ALL ALGORITHMS MENTIONED IN VIDEO
    - EO swap 1 edge from top to bottom: (0,-1) / (-3,0) / (4,1) / (-4,-1) / (3,0) / (0,1)
    - M2: (1,0) / (-1,-1) / (0,1)
    - "Mid solve" parity alg: / (3,3) / (1,0) / (4,-2) / (-4,2) / (-1,0) / (-3,-3)
    - Swap top and bottom layers: / (6,6) /
    - CP Diag/diag: / (3,-3) / (-3,3) /
    - CP Adj/diag: / (3,0) / (-3,0) / (3,0) / (-3,0) (Headlights on left. Do the "3" moves to whichever layer has diag)
    - CP Adj/adj: / (-3,0) / (3,3) / (0,-3) / (Headlights at the back. Frère Jacques)
    - CP Adj/solved: / (3,-3) / (3,0) / (-3,0) / (0,3) / (-3,0) / (Headlights at back)
    - CP Diag/solved: / (3,3) / (3,0) / (3,3) / (3,0) / (3,3) /
    - The Magical Adj/Adj Edge Algorithm! (1,0) / (0,3) / (-1,-1) / (1,-2) / (-1,0)
    - M2 EP algorithm: (0,-1) / (1,1) / (-1,0)
    - Equator flip alg: / (6,0) / (6/0) / (6,0) /
    - Parity alg (if you have 2 edges at the very end): / (-3,0) / (0,3) / (0,-3) / (0,3) / (2,0) / (0,2) / (-2,0) / (4,0) / (0,-2) / (0,2) / (-1,4) / (0,-3) / (0,3)

6:20 I really think you should teach scallop kite here. It’s another one of the most intuitive shapes to make and only needs 3 slices to be solved. If you take the bottom two edges to the left, and bring the 2 single edges down on the right leaving the 4 on top to leave scallop, you’ll have scallop kite which goes to fist fist, kite kite, cube shape

Up until that point I had never considered getting a square one for myself, and thanks to you and this video I can now solve a square one with very little help. The algorithms are odd to me because I know regular cubes (3x3, 4x4, 5x5, and variations of them), so getting used to slashes is a little bit interesting but fun regardless. I never thought that I would enjoy solving a square one and enjoy scrambling it so much, I highly recommend it to anybody that wants a challenge.

Love this tutorial! Finally you make the Andy Kise algs work for me. Interestingly this is because you don't follow them exactly, but you fix them as you demo them. For instance, the CP Diag/Diag case, Andy writes it as /(3,-3)/(3,-3)/ (which doesn't work) but you do it as /(-3,3)/(3,-3)/ (which does work). There are other examples as well. Thank you so much for this!
