Great ranking. I always enjoy your ranking videos, nothing like seeing everyone's differing opinions on these franchises. I've only seen the first four of this franchise, though I own the rest and will marathon it sometime soon. The first is definitely the best for me! It's a masterpiece.
One video I would like to see from you is your top 10 favourite slasher films. I think that would be very interesting. There's so many to choose from.

I hated it the first time I saw it. Initially, I would have ranked it as one of the worst sequels ever. After watching it again I would say its one of my favorites. It still retains some of the grittiness of the first and I just love seeing the descent of the main characters sanity as Freddy uses him to do his bidding. The unintentional homo-eroticism of the movie is so hilarious. Its so obvious you cant even tell if its intentional or not.

I just think their was something in the orignal that the 2nd didnt have.

Mostly agree with all your rankings. I find Nightmare part 2 to be highly underrated. The first three really do feel, to me, like the perfect trilogy. What I find most interesting about Freddy's Revenge is how you could conceivably take the plot as all one long nightmare that Jesse is suffering from. It's a long mind game that Fred is playing with the poor boy, making him dream about all these awful things. Killing people. Being possessed. Imagine a nightmare where you murder your own friends and prey upon your family.
Maybe _some_ of the scenes are real life, but there are so many bizarre moments during his supposedly wakeful state. The bird exploding, the obscene levels of heat, the flames from the toaster and so on. Then there's the pool party massacre (which feels slightly out of character for Freddy) where he just goes full Jason Voorhees on everyone and stops with his mind games. Finally there's the last scene where, despite there being an awful slaughter just the night before, everyone is getting on the school bus just a-ok as if nothing happened. Then BAM, out pops Krueger's claws and we see the beginning of the film play all over again, the bus rushing off into the desert.
All of these strange moments can be explained handily if it is one long nightmare Jesse is suffering from. Since we never see or hear of Jesse's character ever again in the franchise, and the pool party purge is not something that would just be ignored/forgotten in real life, one could even assume that he was one of the next victims of the first movie's bloodbath. Now we are seeing Jesse in the nightmare/hell that _all_ of Freddy's victims suffer in once he has taken them. Not too dissimilar from that moment in Nightmare 1 where Nancy can hear Rod, Tina, and Glen's screams while she searches through the boiler room.
Also recall how in Dream Warriors Freddy shows off the souls he has. One could assume Tina, Rod, Glen, _and Jesse_ are in there somewhere. Once Freddy is finally laid to rest, I like to imagine that all of the souls are freed then rather than in the entertaining but inferior Dream Master sequel.

      @DrumdumsMovieReviews  Před 6 lety +2

Good job Lee. Personally, first movie, Dream Warriors and Dream Master are my favorites of franchise, but i still think that other than Freddy's Dead all other films had something going for 'em (even Dream Child which i am not fan of), and big reason is probably due to all directors who were involved in those films, and who later made some other great films.

That was great fun to watch as with all your vids. I have always liked New Nightmare but agree when it came out it seemed like horror was near over, the big franchises seemed to be winding down, obviously The Curse Of Michael Myers came a couple of years later, but then it wasn't until Scream kickstarted horror again and we got Urban Legend, Bride of Chucky, H20, I Know What You Did Last Summer etc that i fell in love with horror again.
Another point you made, i love the Nightmare score, it's my second favourite after Halloween, closely followed by Scream, Psycho, Jaws, The Exorcist and Friday The 13th.

    • @The_Buff_Guy
      @The_Buff_Guy Před 7 lety

He needed to finish the classic big 3 of horror first (Freddy, Jason, Michael). Those should ALWAYS be done first and foremost as they're the most important. Now, sky's the limit, he can do whatever he wants next.
And you add clips from movies a variety of ways. You could have the movie burned onto your computer from the dvd and take clips straight from that file by editing and splicing in Sony Vegas Pro, or you could take quick clips straight off of youtube as it is under the "fair use" regulation. Then, again, go into sony vegas, edit your video together, make it look pretty, done. Drumdums does this very well.

Wes Craven's story of the original nightmare on elm Street was about a kid having nightmares, scared to sleep he told him family about it he said "If I sleep, I'm scared something after me & I'll die." as they was watching TV in the living the father carried his son to bed & covered him over, he's dad being a physician and his dad demanding his son to take sleeping pills, and noticed that his son did not take the sleeping pills. and after they put their son to bed they heard a loud screaming and a rush to their son's room and before they got there he was dead.

#6 - Dream Master (has gone down on my list over the years, love the intro song though)
#5 - Dream Child (hate the Freddy makeup but I like the gothic look of the movie)

#3 - New Nightmare (was surprised to see it so low on your list haha. Love Heather)

@@DrumdumsMovieReviews I also have the same opinion on Freddy's Revenge. It gets so much unneccessary hate. Mark Patton was phenomenal in it and of course, Freddy was even more terrifying. My ranking goes:
      1. Original
      2. Freddy's Revenge
      3. Remake
      4. Dream Child
      5. Dream Warriors

      7. Dream Master
      8. New Nightmare
These are all based on sheer enjoyment. Each film has certain aspects about it that I enjoy. The reason New Nightmare is last is because I simply felt it dragged on and I enjoyed it the least. But that's the beauty about it, it's all subjective.

I agree with your ranking for the most part (not with part 4 being kind of in the middle of the list, but I should rewatch it again because it's been a while since the first time I saw it and it didn't appeal to me at all, specially having seen part 3 before); and although I love The Dream Warriors, too, I have to say that my problem with this sequel would be the climax, with Nancy's father fighting Freddy's skeleton in the real world.
I get that they were trying something different from the classic "bring Freddy to the real world" but still it is kind of a big turn off for me. But as I said, still my favourite sequel.
I have a question for you: you mentioned that The New Nightmare tried to bring the franchise through another path, and that other slasher films also took this step.
Which films from the Halloween, the Friday the 13th or the Scream do you think are their own "New Nightmare"? (apart from Season of the Witch)

Well done job. Interesting to hear your reasons for the rankings. I'm not really a fan of the reboot ( probably mostly to do with being fine with the original series ) or A New Nightmare ( I know I'm in the minority , but I just found it a bit dull). My top 2 favorites are the same as yours being part1 and Part 3. Other than those 2 my rankings change quite a bit depending on my mood. Freddy' Dead would be grouped with the reboot and A New Nightmare in my bottom 3 (admittedly it is the worst of those movies, but I probably would watch it over the reboot or A New Nightmare.

I will say though, that even though Freddy's Dead is the bottom of the barrel for the franchise, its still kinda fun in its own goofy, cornball way but certainly not scary even against a Goosebumps episode.
I guess Im kinda biased and nostalgic even for Nightmare 4,5 and 6 because they were among some of the earliest movies I remember seeing in theaters with my granpda. I'd spend a lot of weekends at my grandparents and he'd get bored and want out of the house, so my grandma would make him take me with him and he'd just go pick a horror movie, despite me being 4 years old the very first time (5 when Dream master came out). Questionable guardianship perhaps, but hey I turned out fairly normal lmao

    1. A Nightmare on Elm Street
    2. New Nightmare
I absolutely loved the concept for this movie, I enjoyed every second of it. But still I think it could have been better executed, perhaps to have Robert Englund play a bigger role? there's a scene where he is painting a freddy-esque picture and they only show it once, what was that? I also think they could have made the last part where Heather becomes nancy longer, I loved that part, it worked so well, I would have liked to see more of her trapped in the movie world and cut down a bit on the hospital scenes. The Idea of freddy being a demon in disguise was cool, although I think some things on the last act where too cartoonish, like the tongue scene. It has a few flaws but I really really enjoyed it.
    3. Dream Warriors
    4. Freddy's Revenge
As much as I hated the fact that they completely ignored the basic idea of Freddy, after watching parts 4 through 6 I realized this wasn't actually that bad. It has far better acting and Jesse is a much better protagonist. This one also still feels like a horror movie.
    5. Dream Master
Didn't care for this one, it was cookie cutter, bad acting, deaths were cool but I felt like this was a showcase of cool death scenes instead of a plot. They very obviously tried to make this a direct continuation to the 3rd one, which is why everyone from that movie is killed in the first 30 minutes, hated that.
    6.Dream Child
Even worse acting, and it is very sci fi fantasy, I particularly don't think freddy works with those themes, The comic book death was kinda cool tho.
    7. Freddy's dead
I could not believe what I was watching

Agree about Mark Patton as "Jesse" being underappreciated or not referenced enough when other reviewrs rank the franchise and it's positive stuff. What makes Nightmare 2 so scary, asside from Robert Englund, is Mark's facial expressions and the way he works his bright-colored eyes; similar to how I love Heather Langenkamp's expressions and blue eyes opening-wide when "Nancy" is panicking or in shock. They could have made great team also in the original if Mark would had played Nancy's boyfriend "Glen". Otherwise, we earned 2 great actors and characters for the first 2 (and quite distinct from each other) Nightmare movies.
Another actress that I've never seen highlighted and always impress me is Brooke Bundy - Kristen's mom at parts #3 and #4. She's energetic and realistic; she adds a lot of anxiety and scare feel. Especially her unfortunately very short scene at part #4 arguing with Kristen on her mental state, and then watching her daughter being burned; the presence of Brooke is literally on fire everytime she appears. I don't like much Nightmare #4, but her small contribution greatly elevates it to the level of the original Nightmare, even if just for the 2-3 minutes she's shown. :-( In general, "Freddy's Revenge" is my #4 favorite after Nancy/Heather trilogy (#3 New Nightmare; #2 Dream Warriors; #1 Original), and unlike most others, I much prefer 5-"Dream Child" overall plot, imagination and characters, over 4-"Dream Master".

Good ranking dude. I think Freddy vs Jason has the best Freddy we have ever gotten. I love him. He’s scary. He’s funny. Every line he delivers is great. Granted, he only gets a single kill, but he invaded Jason’s dreams several times which I loved. That’s the only time Jason’s ever been afraid of water. Deep in his subconscious
